As of October 2026, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is the safest recommendation for a book-style Android foldable, particularly if gaming matters. TechRadar’s ranking, updated July 24, 2026, names it the best overall tested foldable and its gaming guide selects it as the best foldable gaming phone. That recommendation is provisional: Samsung has announced the Galaxy Z Fold8, Fold8 Ultra, and Flip8, but the cited ranking says full reviews of those successors were still pending.
The Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold is the stronger alternative for buyers who want Pixel software, built-in Qi2, and a larger stated battery. Independent testing shows why capacity alone cannot decide the winner: the Pixel lasted longer in PhoneArena’s web-browsing test, while the Fold7 lasted longer in gaming and video tests. A flip phone such as the Motorola Razr Ultra 2026 can post an excellent battery result, but it does not provide the large inner display needed for expansive split-screen work.
At a glance: which foldable fits your priorities?
| Phone | Best fit | Inner / outer display | Battery capacity | Evidence-based notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 | Best-tested overall and gaming choice, provisionally | 8.0 inches / 6.5 inches | 4,400mAh | Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy; TechRadar’s best overall and best gaming picks; Samsung claims up to 24 hours of video playback. |
| Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold | Pixel software, Qi2, larger battery | 8 inches / 6.4 inches | 5,015mAh | Tensor G5; built-in Qi2 and Pixelsnap accessories; stronger browsing result but weaker gaming result than Fold7 in PhoneArena’s test. |
| Motorola Razr Ultra 2026 | Battery-focused flip alternative | Flip form factor; no large book-style inner screen | Not stated in the cited material | Tom’s Guide recorded 16 hours 20 minutes in its battery-drain test; it is not a like-for-like multitasking phone. |
| OnePlus Open | Lower-cost context | Book-style | Not stated in the cited material | TechRadar labels it a bargain pick, but the available evidence does not support a current gaming or battery recommendation. |
These are not interchangeable categories. An 8-inch inner display gives you more physical workspace, but the size by itself does not prove that every app supports useful split-screen layouts or that one phone has better multitasking software. Battery capacity, vendor playback claims, and independent browsing, video, and gaming tests measure different things.
Why the Galaxy Z Fold7 is the default recommendation
Large workspace with flagship performance
TechRadar lists the Galaxy Z Fold7 with an 8.0-inch inner display, a 6.5-inch cover display, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy platform, and a 4,400mAh battery. Its overall recommendation is based on the combination of large displays, flagship-class hardware, and a thin, light design. The ranking was current on July 24, 2026, not a permanent declaration that it will remain the newest or best foldable.
#1 Best Overall
- SPLIT THE VIEW. MULTITASK¹ TO THE MAX: Productivity never felt this powerful. Use up to three apps¹ at once on the expansive inner screen of Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. You’ll enjoy plenty of space to work, play, connect and more.
- MULTITASKING MADE SMARTER WITH AI: Stay one step ahead with AI² that suggests which apps you might need next. Then view those multiple windows side by side on the large screen of your Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra.
- ANY SHOT, ALL THE DETAILS: Dive into the details of any image with our best camera on a foldable smartphone. Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra boasts a 200MP camera — and an upgraded 50MP Ultra Wide lens — for both stunning wide shots and extreme close-ups.
- ELITE CHIPSET. FLUID GRAPHICS: Experience what’s possible with our most advanced Galaxy Z Series processor. From immersive gaming and speedy multitasking to the latest Galaxy AI³ features, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 keeps everything running seamlessly.
- THE BATTERY YOU’VE BEEN WAITING FOR: It’s the battery you’ve been wanting in a foldable cell phone. Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra packs a powerful ultra-sized⁴ battery in an ultra-slim design. Plus, with Super Fast Charging 2.0⁵, charge up faster than ever before.
For practical multitasking, the inner panel is large enough to make two-app layouts, document work, long email threads, maps, and reference material more comfortable than on a conventional phone. That is a statement about available screen area, not a guarantee about app behavior. Before buying, open the apps you use most and check whether they maintain useful layouts when the phone is unfolded, whether text remains readable at the chosen split, and whether switching back to the cover screen preserves your place.
Why it leads for gaming
TechRadar’s gaming guide names the Fold7 the best foldable gaming phone. It specifically points to the 8-inch screen and Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy as a strong combination for role-playing, puzzle, and strategy games. The broad, almost-square aspect ratio can be a disadvantage for first-person shooters and vertically scrolling games, where developers may expect a conventional wide or tall rectangle. You should therefore judge the games you actually play rather than assuming every title benefits equally from the unfolded screen.
The inner display can make map-heavy interfaces, inventory screens, turn-based controls, and split information panels easier to see. It can also make a game feel less natural if the software letterboxes the image or leaves unused space. A store demonstration or return period is valuable for checking your own titles, because the cited sources do not establish a controlled comparison of app layouts.

Samsung lists a 4,400mAh battery and claims up to 24 hours of video playback. That 24-hour figure is a manufacturer claim under Samsung’s stated conditions; it is not an independent all-day guarantee and should not be compared directly with another company’s playback statement unless the test methods match.
PhoneArena’s comparison measured the Fold7 at 11 hours 48 minutes of web browsing, 6 hours 38 minutes of video, and 8 hours 43 minutes of gaming. Those are outlet-specific test results, not a prediction for every owner. They do, however, give the Fold7 a clear advantage over the Pixel 10 Pro Fold in the cited gaming test.
Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold: the strongest alternative
Hardware and charging features
Google announced the Pixel 10 Pro Fold on August 20, 2025. Product Manager Jeff Evans described an 8-inch inner display, a 6.4-inch outer display with smaller bezels, a Tensor G5 processor, built-in Qi2, and Pixelsnap charging and stand accessories. Google also calls it the company’s largest battery in a foldable and states battery life of up to 30-plus hours.
Both the 30-plus-hour figure and Google’s statement that a wired charge reaches 50% in 30 minutes are manufacturer claims. They are useful for understanding the product’s positioning, but they are not equivalent to PhoneArena’s controlled test results. A Qi2 system can be convenient if you already use compatible magnetic charging accessories, while the Pixelsnap stand can make desk or bedside use easier; verify accessory compatibility and local availability before purchase.

What the independent battery test actually shows
PhoneArena reports a 5,015mAh battery for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold versus 4,400mAh for the Fold7. In the same comparison, the Pixel reached 16 hours 37 minutes of web browsing, 6 hours 26 minutes of video playback, and 3 hours 38 minutes of gaming. The Fold7 reached 11 hours 48 minutes browsing, 6 hours 38 minutes video, and 8 hours 43 minutes gaming.
| Phone | Browsing | Video | Gaming | Full wired charge | Charge after 30 minutes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold | 16h 37m | 6h 26m | 3h 38m | 94 minutes | 54% |
| Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 | 11h 48m | 6h 38m | 8h 43m | 83 minutes | 46% |
The Pixel therefore led browsing by 4 hours 49 minutes and reached a higher percentage after 30 minutes, while the Fold7 led gaming by 5 hours 5 minutes, video by 12 minutes, and full charging by 11 minutes in that test. The result is workload-specific: choose the Pixel for the browsing pattern if that is your dominant use, but do not infer that its larger battery automatically lasts longer for games.
Gaming and outer-screen features
Google describes a game-controller feature on the outer display and says selected gaming and streaming titles are optimized for the phone. Those are Google’s product statements, not an independent ranking of game performance. The Tensor G5 and 8-inch inner screen make the Pixel a credible gaming option, but the cited gaming comparison favors the Fold7, so heavy mobile gaming should remain a Samsung-leaning decision unless Pixel-specific software is more important to you.
Multitasking: how to evaluate the part specifications cannot settle
Screen size is only the starting point
Both the Fold7 and Pixel 10 Pro Fold provide an 8-inch-class inner screen. That creates room for two panes, floating tools, a keyboard plus document, or a game with controls and reference material visible together. It does not establish which phone has the better window manager, launcher, app continuity, or support for the particular services you use. No controlled, comparative multitasking workflow result was established in the cited coverage.
A five-minute in-store or return-period check
- Install or open your three most important work apps, such as email, a browser, a document editor, or a chat client.
- Unfold each phone and place two apps side by side. Check whether each app offers a useful layout rather than simply shrinking a phone interface.
- Resize the divider and rotate the device. Watch for lost scroll position, reloading, or controls that become inaccessible.
- Fold the device partially and then close it. Confirm that the app you were using continues on the cover screen without forcing a restart.
- Repeat the test with your main game. Look for letterboxing, stretched controls, unresponsive touch zones, or a frame-rate mode that drains the battery faster than you expect.
This process answers your real multitasking question more reliably than choosing by diagonal measurement alone. It also exposes cases where a favorite app has not been designed for a square or near-square canvas.
Battery claims: how to read every number correctly
Capacity is not endurance
A 5,015mAh cell is physically larger than a 4,400mAh cell, but endurance also depends on the processor, display brightness and refresh behavior, radios, thermal limits, software scheduling, and the workload. PhoneArena’s opposite browsing and gaming leaders are direct evidence that capacity cannot be used as a universal ranking.
Vendor playback hours are a separate category
Samsung’s up-to-24-hour video statement and Google’s up-to-30-plus-hour battery statement come from the manufacturers. They may use different brightness, codec, network, and power settings. Treat them as advertised ceilings under specified conditions, not as results from one shared laboratory protocol.

- Versatile Camera System: High-quality photography with multiple lenses and modes.
- One UI Software: User-friendly interface for an intuitive and seamless experience.
- Foldable Tablet Experience: Combines phone and tablet functionality seamlessly.
- Multi-Window App Continuity: Run multiple apps simultaneously for efficient multitasking.
- Built to last, the Fold5 includes IPX8 water resistance, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection, an Armor Aluminum hinge, side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and support for S Pen (sold separately) — combining rugged engineering with productivity.
Gaming drains batteries differently
Gaming keeps the processor and graphics hardware active, often raises display brightness, and can increase heat. That is why the Fold7’s 8 hours 43 minutes in PhoneArena’s gaming test matters more to a frequent player than its shorter browsing figure. If your day is mostly reading and web apps, the Pixel’s 16 hours 37 minutes browsing result is the more relevant data point.

Other Android foldables worth understanding
Motorola Razr Ultra 2026: excellent test result, different job
Tom’s Guide recorded 16 hours 20 minutes for the Motorola Razr Ultra 2026 in its battery-drain test, the longest result in that guide. The same coverage describes processor and software tradeoffs. The Razr Ultra is a flip phone: it folds into a compact shape and does not provide the book-style 8-inch inner canvas needed for expansive split-screen workflows. Choose it for compactness or its battery result, not as a direct replacement for the Fold7 or Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
OnePlus Open: bargain context only
TechRadar’s 2026 ranking labels the OnePlus Open its bargain pick. The available evidence does not provide enough current information to recommend it specifically for gaming endurance or battery life, and the ranking itself is in transition after new Samsung models were announced. Consider it only after checking current software support, pricing, and independent tests for your region.
Should you wait for Galaxy Z Fold8?
Samsung has announced the Galaxy Z Fold8, Fold8 Ultra, and Flip8. TechRadar’s current ranking says those new models had not yet received full reviews and advises readers to hold off on buying a Fold7 until the coverage is complete. That makes the Fold7 a provisional recommendation rather than an uncontested newest-generation winner.
There is also a methodology-specific data point for the Fold8 family: TechRadar reports about 5.5 hours at high performance in its 2026 test of the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra. That figure describes the outlet’s high-performance test, not typical daily battery life, and it should not be mixed with PhoneArena’s browsing, video, or gaming numbers as though they were one standardized benchmark.

Quick Recap
Decision guide by user type
Choose Galaxy Z Fold7 if:
- Gaming is a major priority and you want the strongest cited gaming result.
- You prefer the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy platform and a large 8-inch inner display.
- You want the model currently named best overall by TechRadar, accepting that the ranking is provisional.
- Your games benefit from a broad canvas, and you have checked that they handle the squarer aspect ratio well.
Choose Pixel 10 Pro Fold if:
- You value Pixel software and Google’s Tensor G5 platform more than the cited gaming lead.
- Web browsing dominates your day and PhoneArena’s 16-hour-37-minute result is more relevant to you than its gaming result.
- Built-in Qi2, Pixelsnap accessories, or the outer-screen game-controller feature fit your setup.
- You want the larger stated 5,015mAh battery while understanding that capacity does not guarantee longer life in every task.
Choose a flip instead if:
- Your priority is pocketability rather than a large unfolded workspace.
- You accept that the Motorola Razr Ultra 2026 is not a book-style multitasking device.
- You are evaluating battery results within the flip-phone category, where Tom’s Guide measured 16 hours 20 minutes for that model.
Buying checklist
- Confirm the form factor: book-style models serve split-screen work; flip models do not offer the same inner workspace.
- Match tests to your day: use browsing data for reading-heavy use, gaming data for sustained play, and video data for streaming sessions.
- Check app behavior: test your own apps unfolded, side by side, rotated, and resumed on the cover screen.
- Plan for heat: long gaming sessions can change performance and battery drain compared with light browsing.
- Separate claims from tests: label Samsung’s 24-hour and Google’s 30-plus-hour statements as manufacturer claims.
- Check review timing: Fold8-family reviews were pending in the cited ranking, so reassess the recommendation before ordering.
- Verify local details: prices, inventory, warranty terms, accessory compatibility, and regional configurations are not established by the cited evidence.
