There is no verified best alt:V server host for 2026. The official alt:V website states that “alt:V has been shut down,” so the available evidence does not establish that any provider can currently run a functioning alt:V service. The announcement date is not established, and the historical server specifications are not current buying advice.

Is alt:V still available?

The official alt:V website says the multiplayer modification has shut down. alt:V was a free modification for Grand Theft Auto V that let players join dedicated servers with custom game modes. That explains why operators once needed hosting; it does not show that the service still works.

No current provider is verified here as offering a usable alt:V server, and no active successor or revived service is established. That is a limit on what can be responsibly recommended, not proof that no community project or provider exists. A host advertising alt:V should be asked to confirm that its service actually works with the current game and client before payment.

The distinction matters because “hosting available” can mean several different things. A provider might retain a server template, let a customer upload files, or list an old game mode in a control panel without demonstrating that players can connect to a working alt:V server. Those possibilities are not evidence of an operating service. The official shutdown notice is the decisive status information in the reviewed material; no provider-level confirmation of continued operation was found.

The official site’s search result did not establish when the shutdown announcement was made. This article therefore does not attach a date to it. The status source was crawled about three months before the research timestamp, so its status should be checked again immediately before publication. That recommendation to recheck a volatile status notice is not a claim that alt:V has returned; it is a reminder that availability can change and that no revival was verified.

Why a “best hosting” ranking would be misleading

A meaningful ranking requires active, comparable services. No verified current options are available to compare on compatibility, performance, network protection, backups, control-panel access, location, support, price, or cancellation terms. Listing providers as if they currently host alt:V would imply support that has not been established.

Those comparison points are practical criteria for a future review, not attributes established for any provider today. If a revived service and multiple active providers are later verified, a fair comparison would first establish the supported game version and the workload each plan can handle. It could then examine DDoS and other network protections, backup and restore procedures, panel access, server location and latency, support, total price, and cancellation terms. This evidence does not support a score, a winner, or even a shortlist for those criteria.

A product page or a specification sheet alone would not resolve the central question: can customers actually launch a compatible server and can players connect to it? A server with enough CPU or memory is not necessarily a functioning alt:V service. Likewise, a provider’s ability to host a generic game server or store old configuration files does not establish alt:V compatibility. Ask for current, verifiable evidence of the working service before treating a listing as relevant.

For the same reason, no particular dedicated server, networking product, component, book, manual, or physical media is recommended here. The official sources do not identify a product that would solve the reader’s immediate concern, and buying generic hardware on the strength of legacy requirements would not answer whether the service is available.

What the old server requirements said

Official alt:V technical documentation published server estimates and configuration guidance. These are historical figures, not specifications for buying a server today: the documentation’s publication year is not established, and the official site now says the service has shut down.

The figures can still help explain what operators once planned for. They should not be treated as a modern benchmark, a promise that a particular number of players would fit, or a way to identify a present-day hosting plan. The documentation itself said requirements could change as features and performance changed. With the official shutdown notice in view, the historical figures are useful context only.

Historical figure or setting What the official documentation described How to interpret it
Average mid-tier server profile Around 8 CPU cores at 3.7 GHz, under 1.25 GB of RAM, and approximately 300–600 players at peak hours. The same page reported CPU utilization of 6–42%, varying with player count and other factors. A legacy estimate, not a guarantee, benchmark, or present-day plan recommendation.
Proposed minimum for a performant server above 100 players A 3.2 GHz CPU, 4 cores, and 4 GB of RAM. Additional memory could be needed for databases and other services; disk needs depended on databases and scripts. The page said requirements could change as features and performance changed. Do not use this as current buying guidance.
Default server port 7788. Without a CDN, the documentation specified TCP and UDP; when using a CDN, it specified UDP only. The port could be changed in server.toml. Historical network configuration, not evidence that the service can still be run.

The average profile and the proposed minimum answer different historical questions. The first describes an average mid-tier server profile, including an approximate peak-hour player range; it is not a minimum or a universal capacity claim. The second is the documentation’s proposed minimum for a performant server above 100 players. It is not a guarantee that every four-core, 3.2 GHz machine would deliver a particular experience, nor does it establish a requirement for any current service.

The RAM figures also should not be compared without their context. The average mid-tier estimate was under 1.25 GB, while the proposed minimum for the stated above-100-player performance target was 4 GB. The documentation separately noted that databases and other services could need extra memory. The old material does not explain a universal formula for reconciling them. It would be misleading to choose one number and present it as the definitive amount of memory needed.

The same caution applies to CPU figures. The page gave a profile of around 8 cores at 3.7 GHz and reported CPU utilization from 6–42%, varying with player count and other factors. It also proposed a 3.2 GHz, 4-core minimum for a performant server above 100 players. Neither number is a current benchmark, and the utilization range is not enough to predict performance for a particular custom game mode or workload.

Storage was not given as a fixed amount. The documentation said disk needs depended on databases and scripts. That means the old material does not provide a single disk-size recommendation that can responsibly be turned into a present-day plan. Nor does it establish how a particular provider’s storage would behave.

What operators configured in server.toml

The historical configuration reference described settings for the server name, host, port, concurrent player count, password, masterlist announcement, game mode, resources, modules, and CDN use. These details explain the kinds of controls operators had; they do not establish that a server configured this way can connect to a functioning alt:V service today.

In practical terms, the reference shows that an operator had configuration choices beyond choosing a machine. The server name and host described identifying and binding the server; the port set the network endpoint; and the concurrent-player setting expressed the intended slot count. Password and masterlist-announcement settings affected how access or visibility was configured. Game mode, resources, and modules described the content and extensions loaded by the server, while CDN use was another configuration choice.

This historical list should not be mistaken for an installation walkthrough. The reference provides the names of those settings but does not establish current values, current installation steps, or whether the related infrastructure still responds. Knowing that a setting once existed in server.toml is not proof that a server can be listed, discovered, or joined now.

The port detail is similarly narrow. The old documentation gave 7788 as the default and specified TCP and UDP without a CDN, or UDP only when using a CDN; it also said the port could be changed in server.toml. This describes historical network configuration. It does not establish that opening that port on a current machine is sufficient to make a usable server, or that port forwarding can restore a shut-down service.

Historical platform and slot information

The official FAQ said native Linux server builds existed, while the client did not have official Linux support. It also said slots were free and limited by hardware at the time that FAQ was written. Both statements are historical documentation and should not be read as confirmation of current client compatibility, service availability, or current slot terms.

These are separate compatibility questions. A historical native Linux server build does not mean that the client was officially supported on Linux; the FAQ specifically distinguished the server from the client. Neither historical statement answers whether an operator can now install the server, reach the necessary services, or connect players. A buyer should not infer current platform support from the old FAQ.

Likewise, the historical statement that slots were free and hardware-limited is not a current commercial offer. It does not show that a provider currently offers free slots, that a present-day server can host a particular player count, or that paid hosting is available. No current slot terms from alt:V or a provider were established.

What to check before paying for an alt:V server

If a provider claims to support alt:V, ask for a demonstration or a clear, current written explanation before purchasing. Verify:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Whether the service can launch and connect to alt:V now, rather than merely offering old configuration files or a generic GTA V server.
  • Which client and game versions it supports, and whether players can join a working server.
  • What happens if the advertised service cannot connect or is discontinued, including refund and cancellation terms.

Without verifiable answers, do not treat a listing or a hardware specification as proof of compatibility.

Make the first question operational rather than theoretical: ask the provider to show a server that is running and accepting connections, and ask how a customer can independently verify that it is an alt:V server rather than a generic GTA V instance. Request a current explanation of the client and game versions involved. If the provider cannot demonstrate a working connection or clearly explain the supported versions, a plan’s CPU, RAM, or player-slot figures do not resolve the problem.

Then clarify what the listing actually includes. Does the provider offer an operating service, or only a machine on which the customer is expected to install files? Does it provide a control panel or merely access to a server environment? No current alt:V host is confirmed as offering these features, so these questions are due diligence, not a description of available plans.

Before paying, get the remedy in writing if the advertised service cannot connect or is discontinued. Confirm refund eligibility, cancellation terms, and what happens to any payment if the core compatibility claim proves false. This is especially important when the provider’s evidence is an old template, an old configuration example, or a hardware specification rather than a demonstration of a working server.

If a genuinely active ecosystem is later confirmed, then compare providers on the criteria that matter to the intended use: supported game version and demonstrated compatibility; performance under the intended workload; DDoS and network protections; backup and restore; panel access; geographic location and latency; support; total cost; and cancellation terms. No reviewed source establishes those attributes for a current provider, so none should be assumed based on this checklist.

The practical choice in 2026

Do not buy a server plan solely on the basis of legacy alt:V requirements or a provider’s unverified listing. The official status notice says alt:V has shut down, and current hosting support has not been verified.

The evidence supports a clear answer to the literal hosting question, but not a provider ranking: no host is verified here as the best option because no functioning current alt:V hosting service was established. The documentation on CPU, RAM, ports, Linux builds, slots, and configuration is informative about how operators once approached the service. It does not overturn the shutdown notice or supply present-day purchasing specifications.

This conclusion is deliberately limited. It does not claim that no provider or community project could exist; no provider or project was verified. If a later official revival or credible provider-level evidence changes the status, the decision can be revisited. Until then, ask for proof of a working service and clear terms before spending money, and do not mistake historical technical detail for confirmation of availability.

Can I still host an alt:V server?

No provider was verified here as currently running a usable alt:V hosting service. That is not proof that no community project or provider exists, but a listing or old server template is not enough to establish that players can connect. Ask for a current demonstration before paying.

What happened to alt:V?

The official alt:V website says the service has shut down. The reviewed material did not identify an individual speaker or establish an announcement date, so neither is supplied here.

What were the old alt:V server requirements?

The historical documentation described an average mid-tier profile of around 8 cores at 3.7 GHz, under 1.25 GB RAM, and approximately 300–600 players at peak hours, with reported CPU utilization of 6–42% depending on player count and other factors. It also proposed 3.2 GHz, 4 cores, and 4 GB RAM as a minimum for a performant server above 100 players, with extra memory potentially needed for databases and other services. These are legacy estimates, not current buying advice.

What port did an alt:V server use?

The historical documentation listed 7788 as the default port. It specified TCP and UDP without a CDN, and UDP only when using a CDN; the port could be changed in server.toml. This historical setting does not demonstrate that a server can still run or be reached.

Did alt:V support Linux?

The old official FAQ said native Linux server builds existed but the client did not have official Linux support. Those statements are historical and do not confirm present-day client compatibility or service availability.

Were alt:V player slots free?

The historical FAQ said slots were free and limited by hardware at the time it was written. It does not establish current slot terms or show that any server service is available now.

What should I verify if a host advertises alt:V?

Ask it to demonstrate that customers can launch and connect to a working alt:V server, confirm supported client and game versions, and explain refunds and cancellation if the service fails or is discontinued. If a revived ecosystem is verified, compare compatibility, workload performance, network protection, backups, panel access, location and latency, support, total price, and cancellation terms.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The official alt:V website says the service has shut down, and no functioning current host was verified to rank. Treat the old CPU, RAM, port, Linux, and slot details as historical context—not a reason to buy a plan. If a provider claims otherwise, require current proof that players can connect and confirm refund and cancellation terms before paying.
