PlayStation 5 is the clearest non-Xbox alternative for GTA 6. Rockstar lists PS5 and Xbox Series X|S for the currently listed November 19, 2026 launch. The US PlayStation Store lists the game for PS5 Standard Edition and as PS5 Pro Enhanced. PS4 is explicitly unsupported, and Rockstar’s and PlayStation Store’s currently published launch listings do not confirm a PC version.
Which consoles are confirmed for GTA 6?
For a buyer looking beyond Xbox Series X, the confirmed console choices are PlayStation 5 models. Rockstar’s support listing names PS5 and Xbox Series X|S for pre-orders; the US PlayStation Store lists GTA 6 for PS5 Standard Edition and identifies it as PS5 Pro Enhanced. Xbox’s product page also lists Series X|S. These listings establish platform compatibility, not comparative performance.
The currently listed release date is November 19, 2026. Take-Two Interactive’s pre-order announcement gives a US price of $79.99. The price is for the US market and can differ by region or change, so check the storefront for your account’s region before buying.

|---|---|---|
| PS5 Standard Edition | Listed on the US PlayStation Store | Confirmed PlayStation alternative. Sony describes DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers for the game. |
| PS5 Pro | Listed as PS5 Pro Enhanced on the US PlayStation Store | Confirmed as a supported, enhanced-designation option; no GTA 6-specific resolution or frame-rate comparison is stated. |
| Xbox Series X|S | Listed by Xbox and Rockstar | Both Xbox models are in the supported platform family; the listings do not establish a GTA 6-specific comparison between them. |
These are platform listings, not a complete technical comparison. No independent GTA 6 benchmark establishes which console will deliver a particular frame rate, resolution, or image-quality advantage.

PS5 Standard or PS5 Pro: which should you choose?
Choose PS5 Standard for the direct PlayStation alternative
PS5 Standard is the straightforward choice if your priority is playing on a non-Xbox console that is explicitly listed for GTA 6. It is listed as a supported game platform, and Sony describes the use of DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers. Those are feature claims, not a guarantee that the PS5 version will outperform another console.
No current official US retail listing for PS5 Standard pricing, storage capacity, or a GTA 6-specific performance figure is published here. Compare the actual console model and price available in your region rather than assuming a particular hardware configuration or game result.

Consider PS5 Pro if its enhanced designation matters to you
The US store labels GTA 6 as PS5 Pro Enhanced. That designation makes the Pro relevant, but the listed sources do not specify what the enhancement means for this game in measurable terms. They do not establish a frame rate, resolution, graphics setting, or a minimum requirement to play.

Sony’s hardware guide lists PS5 Pro specifications of a 2 TB custom SSD and a 16.7 TFLOPS GPU. Those are console specifications, not GTA 6 performance measurements. Sony marketing executive Mary Yee said the game “will play best on PS5,” citing immersive features and Sony’s partnership with Rockstar. That statement is Sony’s promotional claim, not an independent comparison of PS5 and Xbox performance.

Do not treat PS5 Pro as necessary to play GTA 6: the game is also listed for PS5 Standard. Decide whether the Pro’s price and hardware make sense for your wider console use, and wait for game-specific performance details if those are decisive to you.
What about PS4, PC, or other ways to play?
- PS4: Sony’s game page says GTA 6 will not be available for PS4. Do not buy or keep an older PlayStation on the assumption that it will run the game.
- PC: Rockstar’s and PlayStation Store’s currently published launch listings do not confirm a PC version. That means a PC launch is unconfirmed in these listings; it does not establish whether or when a PC version might be announced later.
- Xbox Series S: It is listed alongside Series X in the Xbox Series X|S family. The available listings do not give a GTA 6-specific price, image-quality, or performance comparison between the two Xbox models.
If you are choosing a console specifically for launch-day access, base the decision on the currently named PS5 and Xbox Series X|S platforms. Recheck the publisher and regional store listings closer to purchase in case platform availability or launch information changes.

Physical purchase does not mean a playable disc
Rockstar support says the physical version contains a download code for the digital game. Do not assume that buying a boxed copy means the package includes a game disc. Rockstar also recommends buying from a retailer in the same country as the country set for your platform account, to avoid activation problems.

A practical checklist before you buy
- Confirm the platform: Choose PS5 Standard or PS5 Pro for the non-Xbox option; check the current listing for your region. PS4 is not supported in Sony’s game listing.
- Choose the console model based on evidence you have: PS5 Pro has an enhanced designation, but no game-specific performance numbers are established. Do not pay extra on the assumption of a guaranteed frame rate or resolution.
- Check the current regional price: Take-Two announced $79.99 for the US game price. Treat that as US pricing, not a global price or a guaranteed future storefront price.
- Check the release listing again: The currently listed date is November 19, 2026. Store listings and publisher announcements are the appropriate places to verify any later change.
- Confirm format and account region: Rockstar says the physical version uses a download code and advises buying in the country matching your platform account to avoid activation issues.
- Review storage before installation: PS5 Pro’s listed custom SSD is 2 TB, but the available sources do not state GTA 6’s installation size or a storage requirement. Leave room for the game and any updates rather than relying on an unverified size estimate.
What is known—and what is not—about performance
The platform listings confirm that PS5 Standard, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S are in scope for the currently listed release. They do not provide a side-by-side GTA 6 test. In particular, they do not establish target or achieved frame rates, resolution, graphical settings, load times, or differences between Series X and Series S.
That distinction matters when weighing the PS5 Pro Enhanced label or Sony’s claim about PS5. Both are relevant information from Sony, but neither supplies a quantified independent comparison. If your purchase depends on a specific performance target, wait for credible game-specific measurements rather than inferring results from console specifications or promotional language.
