Google Meet is the most straightforward general-purpose alternative when guests do not have accounts: a person can open the meeting link, enter a name, and wait for the organizer or an admitted participant to let them in. Microsoft Teams is equally practical for Microsoft 365 organizations, but tenant policies can change or block anonymous access. Jitsi Meet keeps guest onboarding simple after a signed-in host creates the room. Zoom’s no-account workflow in the cited documentation is limited to organizer-enabled Zoom Events, not every Zoom meeting.

WhatsApp itself now offers guest calling. Meta announced the feature on October 14, 2026, so availability and exact screens may still vary during rollout. The right choice depends less on the words “no account” than on admission controls, browser support, phone access, and the meeting host’s organization policy.

  • Choose WhatsApp guest calling when the host already uses WhatsApp and wants an encrypted, free call link with no stated time limit.
  • Choose Google Meet for the clearest browser-based guest experience and optional dial-in where the Workspace administrator enables it.
  • Choose Teams when the host’s school or employer already runs Microsoft 365 and has enabled external participation.
  • Choose Jitsi Meet when guests should join from a link without accounts and the host is willing to sign in to create the room.
  • Treat Zoom as conditional: confirm that the event organizer enabled guest joining or registration before promising account-free access.

What “join without an account” actually means

An account-free guest normally does not create a profile, password, or subscription. It does not mean the meeting is anonymous or that every device follows the same path. A host may still have to sign in, create the room, invite the guest, approve entry, or comply with an organization’s external-user policy.

  1. Does the guest need an account? Some services allow a name-only browser entry; others make access conditional on event registration.
  2. Must someone admit the guest? A waiting room or lobby is common, so a guest can be stuck until the host responds.
  3. Can the guest use a browser? Browser support reduces app installation, but support can differ by desktop, mobile, and browser version.
  4. Is telephone dial-in available? This can rescue a guest whose camera or browser does not work, but it is often controlled by the host’s plan or administrator.
  5. Can an organization block the guest? Schools and companies may restrict anonymous or external participants regardless of what the service supports in general.
  6. Does the host have to sign in? In every option here, the host’s setup requirements are separate from the guest’s requirements.

Use the service’s current help page on the day of the meeting. Admission defaults, browser support, and enterprise settings can change without changing the meeting link.

WhatsApp guest calling: the first-party option

Meta’s October 14, 2026 announcement says, “With guest calling, you can now invite anyone to join a WhatsApp call — even if they don’t have a WhatsApp account.” The WhatsApp product guidance describes the feature as free, end-to-end encrypted, and without time limits. Guests wait for the host’s approval, and the host can remove them at any time.

How the host creates a guest call

  1. Open WhatsApp and go to the Calls tab.
  2. Select the plus icon.
  3. Choose the option to create a call link.
  4. Send the link to people who do not use WhatsApp.
  5. Watch for incoming guests and approve them when they appear.

The host remains responsible for screening the people who enter. A link forwarded to someone else can produce an unexpected join request, so share it only through a channel you trust and remove anyone who should not be present.

When WhatsApp is the best fit

  • The organizer already manages calls in WhatsApp and does not want to create a separate meeting service.
  • Participants value the stated end-to-end encryption and no-time-limit policy.
  • The host can actively approve arrivals rather than opening an unattended room.

Because the announcement is dated October 14, 2026, some accounts may not yet show the same menu. If Calls, the plus icon, or call-link creation is missing, update the app and check availability for the host’s account and region instead of assuming the guest did something wrong.

Google Meet: the clearest general browser choice

Google’s help guidance explicitly permits joining without a Google Account. The important qualification is that “the organizer or a participant needs to let you in.” A guest therefore needs the link and a host who is watching the admission prompt.

Guest steps

  1. Open the Google Meet invitation link in a supported browser or the Meet app when prompted.
  2. Enter the name you want displayed to other participants.
  3. Choose the option to ask to join.
  4. Stay on the waiting screen until the organizer or an admitted participant lets you in.
  5. If the host cannot hear or see you, check the browser’s microphone and camera permissions before leaving the waiting screen.

The guest does not need to create a Google Account for this path. The host should still send the link with the meeting time and the name guests should use, because the displayed name is the host’s first way to identify an unfamiliar arrival.

Telephone fallback

Phone dial-in may be available when the Google Workspace administrator allows it. It is not a universal property of every Meet link. Ask the organizer whether a phone number and access code appear in the invitation before treating dial-in as a backup.

  • Auto-Light Balance: RightLight boosts brightness by up to 50%, reducing shadows so you look your best—compared to previous-generation Logitech webcams (1)

  • Built-In Mic: The built-in microphone lets others hear you clearly during video calls
  • Easy Plug-And-Play: The Brio 101 works with most video calling platforms, including Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Google Meet—no hassle; it just works

Best use case and limitation

Meet is a strong default for public-facing appointments, interviews, family calls, and school meetings where the host can monitor the lobby. It is less suitable for an unattended session: a no-account guest can wait indefinitely if nobody with admission authority is present.

Microsoft Teams: useful for Microsoft 365 organizations

Microsoft documents an anonymous path for supported browsers: select Join without signing in, enter a name on the pre-join screen, and continue. On mobile, a person without a Teams account can choose Join as a guest.

Desktop or mobile guest steps

  1. Open the Teams meeting link.
  2. On a supported desktop browser, select Join without signing in. On mobile, select Join as a guest when that option appears.
  3. Enter the name that should appear in the meeting.
  4. Check the microphone and camera controls on the pre-join screen.
  5. Join and follow any lobby or verification prompt shown by the host’s organization.

Why a valid link can still fail

Microsoft warns that external participation depends on the host organization’s settings. Someone without a work or school account may need to be invited as a guest and verified, rather than admitted anonymously. A tenant can therefore change the experience from a simple browser join to a sign-in, verification, or blocked-access message.

Before sending a Teams link to outsiders, the host should test it with a person outside the organization or ask the administrator whether anonymous and external access are enabled. This check is more reliable than telling guests to create accounts they may not need.

Best use case

Teams is the practical choice for schools, employers, and clubs already governed by Microsoft 365. The organization can retain its normal lobby and guest controls, while casual participants may still join without registering for Teams.

Zoom: account-free access is conditional in the cited workflow

The documented no-account path applies to Zoom Events. An event organizer must enable guest joining or registration, and the event may require the guest to provide an email address. This is not evidence that every ordinary Zoom meeting accepts anonymous participants.

What the guest should do

  1. Open the event invitation supplied by the organizer.
  2. Look for the event’s guest-join or registration option.
  3. Provide an email address if the event requires one.
  4. Use the resulting join control and follow any event verification step.

If the invitation instead asks for a Zoom account, the organizer has not enabled the cited guest route or is using a meeting type with different rules. Do not solve that uncertainty by promising that all Zoom links work without sign-up; ask the organizer which event setting is enabled.

Jitsi Meet: guests join after a signed-in host creates the room

Jitsi’s guide assigns the account requirement to the person starting a room on meet.jit.si. The host must sign in to create the room, while later participants can join from the invitation link without accounts.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Host and guest sequence

  1. The host signs in to the meet.jit.si service.
  2. The host creates the room and copies its invitation link.
  3. The host sends the link to guests and remains available to admit or manage the session.
  4. Each guest opens the invitation link and joins without creating an account.

Jitsi is therefore a low-friction guest option, not an anonymous room-creation option. If nobody with a signed-in account creates the room first, a guest cannot be expected to fix that by opening the link.

Best use case

Use Jitsi when the organizer can handle the one-time sign-in but wants guests to avoid registration. It is also a sensible option for a small group that prefers a direct room link and does not need an organization-managed tenant.

How to choose the right service

Choose the host’s existing ecosystem

If the host lives in WhatsApp, its guest-call link avoids introducing another platform. A Google Workspace host will usually have the smoothest Meet admission workflow, while a Microsoft 365 organization can apply its existing Teams policies. Jitsi is attractive when the host can sign in once and then share a room link.

Choose for the guest’s device

Ask whether the guest is on a desktop browser, a phone, or a device where installing software is restricted. Meet and Teams document browser-based guest routes. Jitsi’s guest flow is link-based, while WhatsApp’s exact guest presentation may vary during the 2026 rollout. For a high-stakes meeting, send the link early enough for the guest to test the microphone and camera.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose for admission control

All of these options can involve host-controlled entry in some configuration. Meet explicitly requires the organizer or a participant to let a no-account guest in; WhatsApp requires host approval. Teams and Zoom Events can add lobbies, invitations, or verification through organizational or event settings. If a guest must enter without waiting, verify that the host can actually disable or staff the admission step before the meeting.

Choose for telephone access

Only Google Meet’s cited guidance establishes a possible phone dial-in, and even there the Workspace administrator must allow it. For every other service in this comparison, phone availability is not established by the cited material, so obtain the actual invitation details rather than assuming a dial-in number exists.

Host checklist before sending a no-account link

  • Create the room or call while signed in; do not ask the guest to perform host setup.
  • Confirm that the guest path is enabled: WhatsApp call link, Meet admission, Teams anonymous or external access, Zoom Event guest join, or a signed-in Jitsi room.
  • Send the exact link, meeting time, expected display name, and a backup contact method.
  • Tell guests whether they should use a browser, a mobile option, or an app prompt.
  • Open the meeting early enough to watch the lobby or approval queue.
  • For Teams, check the Microsoft 365 tenant’s external-participation policy.
  • For Zoom, verify that the event organizer enabled guest joining or registration.
  • For Meet, confirm whether the Workspace administrator enabled dial-in if guests may need a telephone.
  • Remove unexpected participants and stop sharing the link if it was forwarded beyond the intended group.

Troubleshooting account-free joins

The guest sees a sign-in screen

First confirm the service and meeting type. A Teams tenant may require external verification; a Zoom invitation may not be a guest-enabled Zoom Event; a Jitsi guest may be trying to create a room rather than join one. Ask the host to verify the correct link and policy instead of creating an unnecessary account immediately.

The guest is stuck waiting

This is expected when admission is host-controlled. The organizer or an authorized participant must monitor the lobby and approve the request. For WhatsApp, the host must approve the guest; for Meet, the organizer or a participant must let the guest in.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The browser cannot use the camera or microphone

On the pre-join screen, allow the site to use the camera and microphone, select the intended devices, and reload the meeting link if permissions were denied. If the device is managed by a school or employer, local policy may prevent changes; use the meeting’s audio fallback only if the organizer has confirmed one.

The host cannot find the guest-call or guest-join control

WhatsApp guest calling may still be rolling out after its October 14, 2026 announcement. In Zoom, guest access must be enabled by the event organizer. In Teams, tenant settings can hide or block anonymous participation. Check the current account, event, or organization settings before changing platforms.

Privacy and safety considerations

A meeting link is a credential for requesting entry, not proof of identity. Ask guests to use recognizable names, keep the lobby staffed, and remove people who do not belong. Avoid posting an invitation publicly unless the meeting is intended for an open audience.

WhatsApp’s product guidance describes guest calling as end-to-end encrypted, free, and without time limits. The other services in this comparison are described here only in terms of their guest-joining workflows; encryption, retention, recording, and administrator access depend on the service and the host’s configuration and should be checked separately when those issues matter.

Bottom line

For most people who need a link that a visitor can open without registration, start with Google Meet and plan for host admission. Use Teams when the host’s Microsoft 365 policy supports external guests, Jitsi when a signed-in host can create the room, and WhatsApp when its newly announced guest-call feature is available to the host. Treat Zoom’s account-free option as an event-specific setting, not a universal promise.
