For one wireless headset that can serve both a PS5 and an Xbox Series X|S, choose the Logitech G Astro A50 X. Its PLAYSYNC system is designed to connect to Xbox, PS5 and a PC or Mac at the same time, with switching handled from the headset or base. If you prefer a different sound-and-build approach, the Audeze Maxwell 2 is the premium choice, but you must buy the Xbox or PlayStation version that matches your primary console. The SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7X is the value pick in the same broader Arctis family; it is intended for Xbox and SteelSeries documents next-generation compatibility across Xbox Series X|S and PS5.

The important qualification is model identity. “Wireless headset” does not automatically mean “works fully with both consoles.” Xbox support can depend on the exact suffix, dongle, firmware and connection method. Check the box and listing for the precise model—A50 X, Maxwell 2 Xbox or PlayStation, and Nova 7X—before buying.

Which alternative fits your PS5-and-Xbox setup?

The right replacement depends on whether you need one headset to move between consoles, whether both systems must remain connected, and whether you prioritize a premium audio platform or a lower-cost way into cross-console play.

  • Best for instant switching between both consoles: Logitech G Astro A50 X. Logitech describes PLAYSYNC as connecting Xbox, PS5 and PC/Mac at once and letting you tap through the systems.
  • Best premium audio option: Audeze Maxwell 2. Select the Xbox or PlayStation edition; the Xbox guide documents wireless-dongle and 3.5 mm controller connections.
  • Best value choice: SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7X. It is the Xbox-oriented Nova model, and SteelSeries says its Arctis line is compatible with Xbox Series X|S and PS5.

No manufacturer source in the available evidence establishes an independent ranking for comfort, microphone quality, measured latency or battery life. Those attributes can vary with fit, firmware, console settings and test method, so this guide labels them as not stated rather than presenting unsupported winners.

How the three alternatives differ

The table focuses on capabilities that determine whether a headset can replace one used with both consoles. “Not stated” means the named manufacturer material does not establish a comparable claim; it is not a claim that the feature is absent.

The practical distinction is switching architecture. A50 X is built around a base and video-chain handoff. Maxwell 2 is a conventional premium headset whose console edition matters. Nova 7X is the lower-cost route when you can tolerate a more manual connection workflow.

Logitech G Astro A50 X: the closest functional substitute

Why it is the strongest two-console match

Logitech’s product description says the A50 X can connect to “XBOX + PS5 + PC/mac at once” and switch among all three with PLAYSYNC. That directly addresses the most frustrating part of owning two consoles: moving one headset between USB ports, dongles or controller jacks whenever you change systems.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Logitech also documents HDMI 2.1 connections for Xbox Series X|S and PS5. In a typical installation, each console is connected to the A50 X base, and the base participates in the display connection so the selected console and headset audio change together. Because the product relies on that signal path, plan the cable layout before buying: identify which HDMI 2.1 ports on the television or monitor are available, where the base will sit, and whether an AV receiver, capture device or switch is already in the chain.

Who should buy it

  • Households that alternate between PS5 and Xbox several times a day.
  • Players who also use a PC or Mac and want all three systems available without moving a dongle.
  • Anyone willing to pay a premium for a purpose-built switching base rather than a simple USB headset.

Limitations to consider

PLAYSYNC is not the same as universal wireless compatibility. The documented setup is tied to the A50 X base and HDMI 2.1 console connections. If your display has limited HDMI inputs, runs through equipment that does not pass the required signal, or is mounted far from the consoles, installation can be more involved than with a USB dongle headset. The supplied product material does not establish a battery runtime, microphone score, comfort ranking or measured latency, so those should be judged from a hands-on test rather than inferred from the switching feature.

Historical price context

Logitech listed a $379.99 launch price in a 2023 press release. That is a historical launch figure, not a current street price; check the price and regional availability immediately before purchase.

Audeze Maxwell 2: premium sound, but choose the correct edition

Xbox and PlayStation versions are different buying decisions

Maxwell 2 is not a single SKU that automatically covers both consoles. Audeze’s support documentation distinguishes an Xbox model and a PlayStation model. If Xbox is part of your plan, the Xbox guide says Maxwell 2 works with Xbox Series S|X through its wireless dongle or through a 3.5 mm AUX connection on a compatible gamepad. The guide also says Dolby Access activates for the Xbox model.

That makes Maxwell 2 attractive when audio quality and a premium hardware platform matter more than one-button switching. It also means you should not buy a PlayStation edition assuming its wireless dongle will provide the same Xbox functionality. Read the exact suffix in the listing, confirm the included dongle, and verify that the console you care about is named on the regional product page.

  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

Connection choices

  • Wireless dongle: Use the documented Xbox-compatible wireless path for Xbox Series S|X.
  • 3.5 mm controller connection: Connect through a compatible Xbox gamepad when a wired fallback is preferable or the dongle cannot be used.
  • PlayStation edition: Select this when PS5 is the primary target; do not treat the two editions as interchangeable.

When Maxwell 2 is the better alternative

Choose it if you want a premium headset and are comfortable making the console variant decision up front. It is also a sensible option for a player who mainly uses one console and only occasionally connects the other through a controller or a separate compatible setup. It is not the best fit for someone whose first requirement is seamless, simultaneous PS5-and-Xbox switching; the supplied documentation does not describe a PLAYSYNC-style handoff.

What the available evidence does not prove

The Xbox guide does not provide an independent battery test, microphone ranking, comfort score or latency measurement. Dolby Access support confirms software compatibility for the Xbox edition, not a comparative audio verdict against the other choices.

SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7X: the value-oriented route

Why the 7X model matters

The Nova 7X is the Xbox-oriented member of the Nova 7 family. SteelSeries says its Arctis headsets are next-generation compatible with Xbox Series X|S and PS5, and the Nova 7X support material says Xbox connection requires no extra pairing. That makes it the most straightforward value pick when Xbox is the console that must work immediately.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not generalize from the “Nova 7” name alone. The 7X suffix is the model identifier associated with Xbox support. Check that the listing, package and included wireless adapter all say 7X; a similarly named PlayStation-focused model can have a different console workflow.

How it compares with A50 X

Nova 7X is aimed at broad compatibility, not a dedicated HDMI switching ecosystem. If you switch between consoles by moving a dongle or changing the selected USB source, it can be a practical and less expensive arrangement. If you expect the headset and video output to change together at the press of a button, A50 X is the more direct match.

How it compares with Maxwell 2

Nova 7X is the value-oriented choice, while Maxwell 2 is positioned as a premium platform with separate Xbox and PlayStation editions. The supplied manufacturer material does not establish a battery, microphone, comfort or measured-latency advantage for either model, so base the decision on console fit, switching needs and price rather than unverified performance rankings.

Best use case

Choose Nova 7X when Xbox is central, you want the least complicated Xbox pairing process, and you are willing to accept a more conventional switching routine for PS5. Confirm the exact PS5 connection procedure for your region and firmware before purchase, because the available support statement establishes family compatibility but does not spell out every PS5 setup step.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How to choose without buying the wrong variant

Choose A50 X when switching is the requirement

  1. List every device that must share the headset: Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and, if relevant, PC or Mac.
  2. Confirm that your display setup can accept the documented HDMI 2.1 console connections.
  3. Choose A50 X if you want those systems connected concurrently and selected through PLAYSYNC.
  4. Check regional stock and the current price; the $379.99 figure is only the 2023 launch price.

Choose Maxwell 2 when the premium headset comes first

  1. Decide whether Xbox or PlayStation is the primary console.
  2. Buy the matching Maxwell 2 edition rather than assuming one version covers both.
  3. For Xbox Series S|X, confirm that the listing includes the Xbox-compatible wireless dongle or plan to use the documented 3.5 mm gamepad connection.
  4. Use Dolby Access only with the Xbox model, as stated in Audeze’s guide.

Choose Nova 7X when value and Xbox simplicity matter

  1. Verify the model suffix is 7X, not a similarly named Nova headset.
  2. Confirm Xbox Series X|S support and the no-extra-pairing connection described by SteelSeries.
  3. Check the current PS5 connection instructions for the exact adapter included in your package.
  4. Pick it when moving or selecting a connection manually is acceptable and the A50 X base is more infrastructure than you need.

Setup checklists for PS5 and Xbox

A50 X with both consoles

  1. Place the A50 X base where its HDMI and power cables can reach both consoles and the display.
  2. Connect the Xbox Series X|S and PS5 using the HDMI 2.1 arrangement documented by Logitech.
  3. Connect the base to power and complete the display-side HDMI path before testing audio.
  4. Turn on one console, select its PLAYSYNC input, and verify game audio and chat.
  5. Repeat with the second console, then test switching while both systems are available.
  6. Add the PC or Mac only after the two-console path works; this isolates display or cable problems.

Maxwell 2 on Xbox

  1. Confirm that you purchased the Xbox edition.
  2. Connect its wireless dongle and follow the console’s accessory prompts.
  3. If wireless setup is unavailable, connect the headset to a compatible gamepad with the documented 3.5 mm AUX path.
  4. Install or activate Dolby Access for the Xbox model if you want the supported Dolby software feature.
  5. Test microphone monitoring and party chat in the Xbox audio settings before starting a multiplayer session.

Nova 7X on Xbox and PS5

  1. Confirm the adapter and headset both identify as Nova 7X.
  2. On Xbox, use the connection method SteelSeries describes as requiring no extra pairing.
  3. For PS5, follow the adapter’s current console instructions and select the USB audio device in Settings > Sound if the console does not switch automatically.
  4. Test game audio and microphone separately on each console.
  5. When moving between systems, disconnect the adapter from the first console before connecting it to the second unless the model instructions explicitly support both at once.

Common failure points and fixes

The headset works on PS5 but not Xbox

Check the model suffix first. Maxwell 2 requires the Xbox edition for the documented Xbox wireless and Dolby Access support. Nova users should verify that the headset is the 7X. For A50 X, inspect the base, HDMI 2.1 connections and selected PLAYSYNC input rather than treating the problem as a generic Bluetooth pairing failure.

Audio works but party chat does not

Open the console’s input and output device settings and select the headset microphone explicitly. With Maxwell 2, try the documented 3.5 mm controller path if the wireless dongle is not exposing chat correctly. On A50 X, verify that the base is connected to the active console path, not only to the display.

Switching changes video but not audio

This usually indicates that the display path and headset path are not selecting the same source. Recheck every HDMI connection in the A50 X chain, power-cycle the base and consoles, and test one console at a time before reconnecting the second.

A listing does not clearly identify the variant

Do not rely on a product photograph or a shortened model name. Confirm the full suffix, included adapter, console support statement and regional warranty information. If those details are missing, choose a listing that identifies the exact edition before paying.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You need a measured latency or microphone verdict

The manufacturer material available for these three models does not provide independent measurements. Look for a named test with its console, firmware, connection mode and measurement method disclosed; do not infer latency or microphone quality from wireless branding, price or a marketing label.

Bottom line for PS5-and-Xbox buyers

Buy the Logitech G Astro A50 X when one headset must remain connected to both consoles and switching convenience justifies a premium base-and-HDMI setup. Buy Audeze Maxwell 2 when premium hardware is the priority and you are prepared to select the Xbox or PlayStation edition. Buy SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7X when you want the value-oriented Arctis option, especially with Xbox, and can accept a conventional connection workflow rather than dedicated one-tap switching.

Before ordering any of them, verify the exact suffix, included dongle or base, regional compatibility, current price and stock. Those checks matter more than a generic “PS5/Xbox compatible” label.
