For the strongest airplane noise cancellation, choose the Sony WH-1000XM6. For the longest quoted runtime, choose the Cambridge Audio Melomania P100. The Bose QuietComfort Ultra is the comfort-and-isolation option, while the Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless is the current same-brand successor. The Momentum 4 itself remains a sensible travel headphone when its roughly 60-hour battery claim, USB-C audio and comfortable design matter more than having the newest release.
The right choice depends on whether your priority is cabin-noise reduction, fewer charging stops, pressure-free long-wear comfort or staying with Sennheiser. The comparison below separates those priorities and labels every battery figure by its source and date.

Battery numbers are not perfectly comparable: some are manufacturer claims, while others are figures quoted by a review guide. Runtime changes with listening volume, codec, calls, USB use and noise-cancellation settings. Treat the table as a decision guide rather than a laboratory ranking.
What the Momentum 4 already gets right
The Momentum 4 is the baseline to beat because it combines unusually long runtime with the features a traveler uses repeatedly. SoundGuys’ 2025 comparison lists 60 hours per charge and describes the model as combining style, comfort and core high-end features. That figure is longer than the quoted runtime for Sony’s WH-1000XM6 and slightly ahead of the 57-hour claim reported for the Momentum 5 Wireless.

SoundGuys summarized the older model this way: “Despite being nearly three years old, the MOMENTUM 4 offers practical advantages that may prove more valuable over time.” The practical advantage is not simply a large number on a specification sheet. A long-haul traveler can leave home without a full charge, use the headphones through an outbound flight and airport layover, and still have reserve for the return journey. The usefulness depends on your actual listening pattern, but the margin reduces charger anxiety.
The Momentum 4 also supports USB-C audio. SoundGuys specifically highlighted “the combination of USB-C audio support, exceptional battery life, and comfortable design” as a reason it remains suitable for reliable, long-term use. USB-C audio matters when a device, airline entertainment system or adapter can provide digital audio but wireless pairing is inconvenient. Check the aircraft’s connector and bring the appropriate cable or adapter; a USB-C port on the headphones does not guarantee that every seat-back system exposes compatible digital audio.
Its limitation is strategic rather than absolute: the Momentum 4 is not the safest choice when your primary goal is the strongest possible reduction of aircraft rumble. Sony’s newer model wins that specific comparison, and the Bose model deserves consideration if wearing comfort and isolation must be balanced together.

Why it leads for cabin isolation
SoundGuys’ comparison identifies the WH-1000XM6 as the clear winner when maximum active noise cancellation matters during air travel. That makes it the most defensible alternative for passengers who want to reduce engine drone, cabin hum and other persistent low-frequency noise rather than merely listen at a lower volume.
ANC is most valuable when you intend to sleep, work, watch downloaded video or listen quietly for many hours. Stronger cancellation can let you keep playback at a more comfortable level, although it cannot remove every voice, service announcement or sudden high-frequency sound. Ear-cup seal and personal fit still matter, so a model that measures best for one listener may feel less effective if the pads do not seal around that listener’s glasses, hair or head shape.
The cost of choosing Sony
The quoted battery figure is about 30 hours, as listed in the SoundGuys comparison. That is ample for many individual flights, but it is roughly half the Momentum 4’s cited figure and far below the P100’s travel-guide claim. Plan to charge before departure and carry a charging cable if you expect several days away from an outlet.
This is the central trade-off: Sony exchanges some runtime headroom for the strongest stated aircraft isolation in this group. If your itinerary includes one long flight and your main frustration is engine noise, that exchange is rational. If your trip involves multiple connections, remote work between flights or limited access to power, the same exchange may be annoying.

Cambridge Audio Melomania P100: the battery specialist
What the 100-hour figure means
TechRadar’s travel-guide update selected the Melomania P100 as its best-battery-life travel pick and cited “the huge 100 hours on offer.” The 100-hour number is the standout endurance claim in this comparison and is the reason to start with this model when charging opportunities are scarce.
A very high quoted runtime is useful for multi-day rail journeys, camping or work travel in which you may not have a convenient outlet. It also reduces the need to pack a dedicated charging routine. The figure should still be treated as a claimed or guide-reported maximum, not a guarantee for every listening mode. Calls, high volume, wireless features and any noise-cancellation setting can change real-world endurance. TechRadar’s update is dated 2024, so confirm the current specification and regional product version before purchasing.
When endurance matters more than a complete ranking
The P100 is the clearest answer to “which headphones have the longest battery life?” among the figures supplied here. It is not automatically the best answer to every travel question, because the cited material does not establish a directly comparable aircraft-ANC result, comfort score, microphone ranking, foldability assessment or price for it.
Choose it when your decision is dominated by charging frequency. If you instead need proven maximum aircraft isolation, use the Sony recommendation. If you need a documented comfort and portability comparison against the Momentum 4, use the Bose section below. Keeping those decisions separate prevents a single impressive battery number from being mistaken for an all-purpose travel winner.

- Charge fully before leaving, even when the quoted capacity appears sufficient for the itinerary.
- Carry the correct USB charging cable and a power bank that can supply it.
- Download music, podcasts and video before departure so a weak signal does not force extra troubleshooting.
- Do not assume that a high runtime claim means the headphones can power every connected device or charge other devices.
Bose QuietComfort Ultra: comfort and isolation in the same decision
Why it belongs on the shortlist
RTINGS provides a direct Momentum 4 comparison that includes travel, comfort, portability and isolation. That makes the QuietComfort Ultra a useful choice for readers who experience long-wear fatigue or who want strong noise blocking without making battery endurance the only criterion.
Comfort is not a cosmetic extra on a 10-hour flight. Clamp pressure, pad contact, heat, the weight distribution of the headband and the way the cups seal can determine whether you keep the headphones on or remove them repeatedly. RTINGS’ inclusion of comfort and portability categories means you can evaluate those factors beside isolation instead of relying on an ANC headline alone.
What the available evidence does not establish
The cited material does not provide a battery figure for the QuietComfort Ultra, a launch price, a microphone ranking, a USB-C audio result or a sound preference comparison. Do not infer that it has the longest runtime, the best call quality or the same wired behavior as the Momentum 4. Those details should be checked in the current regional specification and an up-to-date independent test.

The sensible reason to choose Bose from this comparison is the combined comfort-and-isolation brief. If your ears or head become uncomfortable before a flight ends, a theoretical runtime advantage has little value. Conversely, if you mainly need to avoid charging for days, the P100 or Momentum 4 has stronger documented endurance figures here.

Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless: the current same-brand successor
What changed in the product timeline
TechRadar reports that Sennheiser released the Momentum 5 Wireless in June 2026. Its reported launch prices were $399 in the United States, £329 in the United Kingdom and AU$749 in Australia. These are launch prices, not permanent global prices; taxes, promotions, regional availability and later revisions can change what you pay.
TechRadar reports a 57-hour battery claim for the Momentum 5. That is close to the Momentum 4’s cited endurance, but it does not exceed it. The reason to choose the newer model is therefore access to newer Sennheiser features and a current-generation product, not a clear battery-life victory.
When continuity is more valuable than switching brands
A same-brand successor can make sense if you already like the Momentum sound, controls or fit and want a newer purchase rather than a different listening experience. It also gives you a straightforward upgrade path without treating the older Momentum 4 as obsolete. At the same time, the supplied information does not establish the Momentum 5’s aircraft-ANC ranking, microphone performance, foldability, wired USB-C behavior or comfort result. Verify those points in the current product documentation and independent reviews.
For travelers choosing strictly by endurance, the Momentum 4’s cited 60-hour figure remains slightly higher. For travelers choosing a newly released Sennheiser model, the Momentum 5 is the relevant option, with the important qualification that its 57-hour figure is a reported claim from 2026 rather than a promise of longer use in every setting.

Compare the alternatives by the decision that actually matters
Aircraft noise cancellation
Use Sony’s WH-1000XM6 when the aircraft cabin is the problem you are solving. SoundGuys gives it the clearest advantage for maximum isolation. Bose belongs in the conversation when comfort and isolation must be weighed together, because RTINGS compares those categories directly against the Momentum 4. The comparison does not establish a winner for the P100 or Momentum 5 on aircraft ANC, so do not select either solely on an assumed ranking.
Battery endurance
The P100 has the largest quoted figure, followed by the Momentum 4 and then the Momentum 5 in the supplied comparisons. Sony’s quoted figure is lower, reflecting its trade-off toward isolation. Bose’s battery figure is not stated in the cited material. Compare like with like where possible: manufacturer claims, review-guide figures and real-world tests can use different listening levels, codecs and feature settings.

Long-wear comfort
Comfort depends on anatomy and use, not only on model name. The Momentum 4 is described by SoundGuys as comfortable, while RTINGS explicitly includes comfort in its Momentum 4 versus QuietComfort Ultra comparison. Those are the strongest comfort-specific evidence points supplied here. If you wear glasses, have a sensitive scalp or plan to sleep in the headphones, prioritize a return policy and fit assessment over a small specification difference.
Foldability and case portability
Portability is relevant once the headphones leave your home: a bulky case consumes carry-on space, and a hinge that does not fold may be awkward in a small personal item. RTINGS includes portability in its Bose-versus-Momentum-4 comparison. The cited material does not establish foldability or case dimensions for Sony, Cambridge Audio or Momentum 5, so check the current package contents and measurements before assuming one case is smaller.

Wired USB-C listening
SoundGuys specifically highlights USB-C audio support for the Momentum 4. That is the only model in this comparison with a documented USB-C audio statement. For the other alternatives, verify whether USB-C is charging-only or also carries digital audio, and confirm compatibility with your phone, tablet or airline adapter. A 3.5 mm cable and a USB-C charging lead solve different problems; packing one does not replace the other.
Microphone and call quality
No supplied source establishes a cross-model microphone winner. If you expect to join meetings from an airport or make calls in a terminal, consult a current independent microphone test rather than extrapolating from ANC or battery data. Noise cancellation for listening does not automatically mean that outgoing speech will sound clear to the other person.
Sound preference
The evidence provided identifies the Momentum 4 as a combination of style, comfort and high-end features but does not rank these models by tonal balance or detail. Sound preference is personal and recording-dependent. Use a return window, audition familiar tracks and check whether your preferred phone or player supports the connection mode you intend to use.
Price and regional availability
Only the Momentum 5’s June 2026 launch prices are supplied: $399, £329 and AU$749. Current prices for the other models are not established here. Prices, stock and warranty terms vary by country and can change after launch, so check the seller and your local Sennheiser, Sony, Cambridge Audio or Bose listing at the time of purchase. Do not treat a launch price as a current sale price.

A week of travel with few outlets
Start with the Cambridge Audio Melomania P100 because TechRadar’s 2024 guide gives it the highest quoted endurance. The Momentum 4 is the alternative when you also value documented USB-C audio and a comfortable design. Carry a cable and power bank regardless of the advertised figure.
Frequent flights where noise is the recurring problem
The WH-1000XM6 is the most targeted choice because the SoundGuys comparison gives it the aircraft-ANC advantage. Its lower quoted runtime means you should make charging part of your travel routine rather than relying on the battery to cover an entire multi-day itinerary.
Replacing an older Sennheiser
Choose the Momentum 5 Wireless when you specifically want the June 2026 successor and its newer feature set. Choose the Momentum 4 when its cited 60-hour runtime, USB-C audio and established comfort are more valuable than being on the newest generation.

- Charge and update at home. Fully charge the headphones, phone and any adapter before leaving. Install firmware updates before the airport rather than during boarding.
- Test the fit for at least 30 minutes. Wear the headphones while walking and sitting. Check whether glasses, hair or a hat breaks the ear-cup seal or creates pressure.
- Prepare offline audio. Download playlists, podcasts and video. This avoids depending on airport or aircraft Wi-Fi and reduces last-minute pairing problems.
- Pack two cables when needed. Bring a charging cable and, for the Momentum 4, a USB-C audio cable if you intend to use its documented wired digital-audio capability. Use the connector required by the aircraft adapter.
- Set a sensible listening level. ANC reduces the need to overpower cabin noise, but it does not make high volume harmless. Adjust volume after the aircraft reaches cruising altitude and the cabin sound settles.
- Preserve battery during breaks. Turn the headphones off when you leave the seat or switch to the aircraft system. Do not assume pausing playback stops every wireless function.
- Keep a fallback. Store a small wired option or earplugs in your personal item. A drained battery, incompatible adapter or damaged cable should not leave you without audio or basic noise relief.
How to interpret the quoted battery claims
The figures in this comparison come from different contexts. SoundGuys lists 60 hours for the Momentum 4 on its 2025 comparison page and about 30 hours for the Sony WH-1000XM6. TechRadar’s 2024 travel-guide update cites 100 hours for the P100, while its 2026 coverage reports 57 hours for the Momentum 5. These dates and source types belong with the numbers whenever you compare them.
Actual runtime can be lower when you make calls, use high volume, stream over a demanding codec, keep ANC active continuously or expose the battery to cold. A review-guide figure may also use a particular test mode that differs from the manufacturer’s headline condition. Use the quoted values to identify the endurance tier, then plan a margin for your own behavior.
Finally, separate battery endurance from charging speed, wired operation and power-bank compatibility. A headphone that lasts a long time may still be inconvenient if its cable is missing, its USB-C port is charging-only or the aircraft adapter does not match. Those are separate checks in the buying decision.
