Short answer: choose the Motorola Edge 70 Pro for the most balanced package, the POCO X8 Pro for gaming and sustained performance, the Tecno Camon 50 Ultra if camera versatility is your priority, the Samsung Galaxy A27 if long software support matters most, and the POCO X8 Power for battery life. The Redmi Turbo 5 and OnePlus Nord CE6 are also credible alternatives when their prices or stock make them easier to buy.

1. Motorola Edge 70 Pro: the safest all-round alternative
The Motorola Edge 70 Pro is the strongest default recommendation if you want a phone that does not have an obvious weakness in everyday use. 91mobiles named it the best overall option under ₹40,000, citing its combination of display, performance, battery and charging. Its listed reference price is ₹39,999 for 8GB RAM and 256GB storage in the guide updated October 12, 2026.
MySmartPrice reached a similar conclusion in a camera-focused comparison, calling it the best camera-centric all-rounder among the four phones it tested. Its price check on August 28, 2026 was approximately ₹37,999, illustrating why you should record both the date and the exact variant when comparing offers.
Why it is a strong Nothing alternative
- It is the balanced choice when you use a phone for mixed tasks rather than one dominant workload.
- MySmartPrice gave it an 8.2/10 price-calibrated camera score, ahead of the Nothing Phone (4a)’s 7.9/10 in that publisher’s comparison.
- That comparison favored Motorola for the tested combination of main-camera, selfie and rear/front-video performance.
What you give up versus Nothing
The Nothing Phone (4a)’s distinguishing hardware advantage is a 3.5x optical-image-stabilised periscope camera. The Edge 70 Pro does not have a dedicated telephoto camera, so its long-range shots rely on the main camera and digital or computational cropping rather than a separate optical path. If photographing distant subjects is central to your use, this is a real trade-off rather than a minor specification difference.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors91mobiles’ cited review also notes that the Motorola has no wireless charging and offers a shorter update promise than some rivals. The guide does not establish a single current number for that promise, so compare the manufacturer’s India policy directly if update longevity is a deciding factor.
2. POCO X8 Pro: the performance and gaming pick
Choose the POCO X8 Pro when frame rates, fast app loading and heavy workloads matter more than camera refinement. 91mobiles selected it as the top performer under ₹40,000. The guide lists a Dimensity 8500 Ultra processor, configurations reaching 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and gaming-focused support. Its reference price is ₹36,999 for 8GB/256GB.
Rank #2
- Carrier: This phone is locked to Tracfone, which means this device can only be used on the Tracfone wireless network. Tracfone plan required, activating is easy, just 3 steps.
- DISPLAY: Immersive viewing on a 6.7-inch super-bright 120Hz display with powerful stereo speakers and Bass Boost for cinematic entertainment.
- CAMERA SYSTEM: Advanced 50MP Quad Pixel camera captures sharp, detailed photos and videos in any lighting condition
- PERFORMANCE: Lightning-fast 5G connectivity paired with a powerful processor and RAM Boost for smooth multitasking.
- BATTERY LIFE: Long-lasting 5000mAh battery with TurboPower charging technology delivers hours of power in minutes.
Where it makes sense
- Gaming is your main reason for upgrading and you want performance headroom below the ₹40,000 ceiling.
- You frequently compile, edit, multitask or run demanding applications where sustained processing matters.
- You prefer spending less than the Motorola’s October reference price while retaining a high-end performance focus.
Heat and sustained performance
91mobiles warns that the phone can warm during long gaming sessions. A high benchmark score or a powerful chipset does not guarantee constant peak speed: temperature, game settings, room temperature and session length all affect sustained performance. Check long-session reviews for the games you actually play, and use a case and charging setup that do not trap additional heat.
Gadgets 360’s July 19, 2026 guide lists the same ₹36,999 reference price. Its inclusion in two buying guides makes the model easy to shortlist, but it does not turn either guide’s price into a live guarantee.
3. Tecno Camon 50 Ultra: the camera-versatility choice
The Tecno Camon 50 Ultra is 91mobiles’ camera-versatility pick at a reference price of ₹39,999. It is the model to investigate if you want a broader camera toolkit rather than the most balanced overall package.
The available guide does not independently establish the exact lens configuration or the manufacturer’s current support terms. Do not buy on the model name alone: open the current Indian specification page, confirm which cameras are present on the exact variant, and check how long security and operating-system updates are promised.
Questions to answer before ordering
- Does the Indian model include the focal lengths you need, or is a quoted zoom range produced mainly by a crop?
- Is the listed ₹39,999 for the same RAM and storage configuration you are viewing?
- What is the current India warranty, service-network coverage and software-update policy?
If those answers are satisfactory, the Camon 50 Ultra is the specialist camera alternative. If you want an independently tested balance of cameras, video and selfies instead, the Motorola recommendation has stronger documented support in the cited comparison.

- YOUR CONTENT, SUPER SMOOTH: The ultra-clear 6.7" FHD+ Super AMOLED display of Galaxy A17 5G helps bring your content to life, whether you're scrolling through recipes or video chatting with loved ones.¹

4. Samsung Galaxy A27: the software-support pick
The Samsung Galaxy A27 costs ₹34,999 in 91mobiles’ dated list and is its software-support choice. That makes it the logical candidate for buyers who keep a phone for several years and put update continuity ahead of peak gaming performance or optical zoom.
The inspected guide excerpt does not state an exact number of operating-system or security updates. Because Samsung’s commitments can differ by country, model and policy revision, verify the current India support page before quoting a number of years or Android versions in your purchase decision.
Who should choose it
- You plan to keep the phone beyond the usual two-year upgrade cycle.
- Security patches and predictable software maintenance matter more than the fastest chipset in this price band.
- You prefer Samsung’s software ecosystem and service access, subject to confirming the current regional policy.
Do not assume that the support distinction automatically makes it the best camera or gaming phone. The recommendation is specifically about software longevity.
5. POCO X8 Power: the battery-life choice
For maximum endurance, 91mobiles selects the POCO X8 Power at a dated reference price of ₹30,999. The listing does not establish a storage variant in the cited material, so confirm the memory configuration before comparing it with an 8GB/256GB price for another phone.
This is the shortlist’s battery-first option: appropriate for long commutes, travel, navigation, streaming or workdays away from a charger. Check current stock because the guide itself treats the price as a dated reference rather than a guaranteed offer.

Battery results are comparison-specific
MySmartPrice’s comparison found that the vivo V70 FE and OnePlus Nord CE6 delivered longer battery results in its own testing, while neither was its strongest all-round camera choice. That does not contradict the POCO X8 Power recommendation: the sources are evaluating different sets of phones and different priorities. Use the POCO as the dedicated battery pick from the 91mobiles shortlist, and inspect the exact test conditions when comparing endurance claims.
6. Redmi Turbo 5: a gaming-oriented fallback
Gadgets 360’s July 19, 2026 buying guide lists the Redmi Turbo 5 at ₹37,999 for 8GB RAM and 256GB storage and describes it as gaming-oriented. It is a sensible alternative when the POCO X8 Pro is unavailable or when you prefer Redmi’s model and retail availability.
The same guide says the Redmi Turbo 5 is nearly identical to the POCO X8 Pro in display, chipset and software experience, while recommending the POCO as the first choice when both are available. That makes the Redmi a practical stock-led substitute, not a completely different category. Confirm the exact regional variant, cooling behavior and current price rather than assuming the two phones are interchangeable in every detail.
7. OnePlus Nord CE6: lower-priced value to investigate
Gadgets 360 lists the OnePlus Nord CE6 at ₹33,999 in its July 19, 2026 guide. It is worth checking when you want to remain comfortably below ₹40,000 and value the OnePlus experience, subject to verifying the current Indian specification and offer.

MySmartPrice included the Nord CE6 in its camera-centric comparison and reported longer battery results than the phones it compared in that test. Its price-calibrated camera score was 7.0/10, below the Motorola Edge 70 Pro’s 8.2/10 and the Nothing Phone (4a)’s 7.9/10. These are that publisher’s own scores, calibrated to the segment; they are not universal ratings.

How the Nothing Phone (4a) changes the decision
Nothing’s official India product page presents the Phone (4a) with a three-camera system, up to 70x ultra zoom and Nothing OS features including Essential AI tools. MySmartPrice’s September 2, 2026 comparison used an approximate price of ₹36,250 checked August 28 and identifies a 3.5x OIS periscope as its key hardware advantage.
That periscope matters because optical zoom and a crop are not the same thing. A periscope camera uses a separate lens and sensor arrangement to capture a distant subject at its native optical magnification, preserving more detail before software processing. A main-camera crop enlarges only the central portion of an existing image; at long distances it generally has less detail and more visible noise. A headline such as “70x ultra zoom” describes the maximum processing range, not 70x optical magnification.
MySmartPrice’s results show the resulting trade-off: Nothing is strongest when optical zoom is the priority, while Motorola is the camera-centric all-rounder for its tested main-camera, selfie and video balance. Decide which type of photography you do most often rather than choosing from a single zoom number.

How to verify an under-₹40,000 deal
- Confirm the exact model and variant. Match RAM and storage first. A ₹39,999 8GB/256GB listing cannot be compared directly with a phone whose memory configuration is not stated.
- Check the date and seller. The cited prices come from guides updated between July and October 2026. Open the current Indian listing, confirm who fulfils the order and make sure the listed colour and configuration are actually in stock.
- Read the India support policy. This is particularly important for the Galaxy A27 and Edge 70 Pro. Do not infer a duration from another country or from a retailer’s shortened description.
- Match the camera hardware to your subjects. Choose the Nothing Phone (4a) when a real 3.5x periscope is more useful than a stronger main-camera balance; choose the Motorola when selfies, video and general shooting matter more; investigate the Tecno only after confirming its exact lenses.
- Check sustained performance, not just the chipset name. For the POCO X8 Pro or Redmi Turbo 5, look for long-session gaming temperatures and frame-rate stability in reviews of the Indian model.
- Compare battery evidence under similar conditions. Screen brightness, network mode, game settings and test duration change results. Treat the POCO X8 Power label as a shortlist direction, not a promise of a particular number of hours.
- Review returns and warranty before payment. A low price is not useful if the seller, warranty region or return window does not suit you.
What happened to the Pixel 9a?
Google’s Pixel 9a should not be treated as a current under-₹40,000 recommendation without a live Indian listing. Gadgets 360’s April 16, 2026 guide listed the 8GB/256GB model at ₹39,999, but its July 19 update put it at around ₹44,000 and said it was almost out of stock. That change demonstrates how quickly a phone can leave a price-based shortlist. If you find a genuine current offer below ₹40,000, verify seller, warranty and availability before considering it.
Bottom line
Start with the Motorola Edge 70 Pro if you want the most balanced alternative and can accept the lack of a dedicated telephoto and wireless charging. Pick the POCO X8 Pro for gaming, the Tecno Camon 50 Ultra for camera versatility after verifying its hardware, the Samsung Galaxy A27 for support longevity after checking Samsung’s current India policy, and the POCO X8 Power for battery-first use. Keep the Redmi Turbo 5 and OnePlus Nord CE6 as practical alternatives when stock or pricing changes the calculation, and remember that every figure above is a dated reference rather than a live quote.
