Short answer: choose Raichu if you want the closest conventional replacement for Pikachu. Choose Pawmot for an aggressive physical attacker, Rotom for utility and form-based secondary typing, Magnezone for Electric/Steel defenses and special pressure, Bellibolt for a slower bulky slot, or Galvantula for speed, coverage and utility.
The Pokémon Day 2026 presentation introduced Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves and showed two special Pikachu with a new look, currently identified in coverage as Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu. The presentation did not establish their battle statistics, moves, abilities, typing details, encounter method, evolution rules or competitive performance. Until those details are officially published, no responsible guide can claim either character is stronger than Pikachu or rank them against established Electric Pokémon.
What is actually known about Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu?
The Pokémon Day 2026 Pokémon Presents coverage described a pair of special Pikachu with a brand-new look and associated them with Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves. Current reporting uses the names Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu. Those are presentation details, not a battle profile.
No authoritative battle data has been published in the available coverage for either character. That means there is no confirmed basis for comparing their base statistics, movepools, abilities, typing, held-item interactions, encounter rates, evolution behavior or tournament results. A visual variant may eventually function exactly like Pikachu, occupy a different role, or introduce mechanics that make ordinary comparisons misleading.

For a team you are building now, treat the two new characters as unconfirmed options. Select a proven Electric Pokémon according to the job your roster still needs, then revisit the decision when the games publish compatibility and battle information.
How to choose an Electric replacement
Electric Pokémon are not interchangeable just because they share a type. The most useful replacement depends on five questions:
- What damage profile is missing? A team may need physical contact pressure, special attacks, or a balance of both.
- How quickly must the slot act? Fast attackers can pressure opponents before they move; slower Pokémon may need bulk or team support to function.
- Does the team need a second typing? A pure Electric Pokémon keeps its defensive profile simple, while Electric/Steel, Electric/Bug or other combinations add resistances and weaknesses.
- Is utility more valuable than immediate damage? Form changes, speed control, disruption and positioning can matter more than a larger-looking attack stat.
- Can the Pokémon be obtained in your game and format? Availability varies by title, version, downloadable content, transfer rules and battle format.
Use the following table as a role map, not as a universal power ranking. The best choice changes when the rest of your team changes.

Raichu: the closest conventional replacement
Raichu is the natural answer when the important part of Pikachu is the line itself rather than a particular competitive trick. It keeps the familiar Electric identity while giving your team a conventional evolved form to build around. This is the least disruptive substitution: the slot remains a direct Electric attacker instead of changing into a defensive or dual-type project.
Why choose Raichu
- It preserves the Pikachu-line theme for a story team, mascot team or character-focused roster.
- Its role is easy to understand: apply Electric pressure without asking the rest of the team to accommodate an unusual typing.
- It is a sensible fallback if Mr. Windychu or Ms. Wavychu are unavailable, cosmetic variants, or restricted by the game format.
When Raichu is not the best fit
A familiar identity does not solve every structural problem. If your team already has a fast pure Electric attacker, adding another similar slot may leave you short on bulk, physical damage or defensive switching. In that case, one of the dual-type or utility choices below gives the roster more distinct functionality.
Pawmot: an aggressive physical option
Pawmot is the choice for players who want the Electric slot to attack actively at close range. Its Electric/Fighting identity gives it a different offensive profile from a pure Electric mascot and lets the team apply physical pressure rather than relying exclusively on special attacks.

Build around its role
- Pair it with teammates that can handle opponents resistant to its main attacks.
- Use speed support, pivoting or defensive screens if it needs help reaching the field safely.
- Keep its physical orientation in mind when choosing a nature, item and team-wide damage plan.
Trade-offs
The Fighting secondary type adds useful offensive reach but also changes the list of attacks that threaten Pawmot. It is not a plug-in substitute for every Pikachu set. Choose it when the roster benefits from a committed physical attacker, not merely because it is another Electric species.

Rotom is valuable because its forms let one species serve different strategic purposes. The Electric typing remains part of its identity, while a form can add a secondary typing and alter the way it attacks, switches and supports the team. That makes Rotom a role-compression choice rather than a simple damage upgrade.
Why form choice matters
A Rotom decision has two layers: first choose the species, then choose the form that covers a hole in the roster. A form with a useful secondary typing may provide a switch-in your team lacks, change which attacks it threatens, or alter whether it functions mainly as an attacker, pivot or support Pokémon. The exact forms and available moves are game-dependent, so check the in-game form list before planning a final set.
Best use cases
- Use Rotom when your team needs flexibility and you are willing to adjust the slot after scouting the format.
- Use it to avoid stacking the same weaknesses across several pure Electric Pokémon.
- Choose it for a team that values positioning and utility as much as raw damage.
Rotom is less attractive when you want a single, fixed role with no form-management decisions. In that case, Raichu, Bellibolt or Magnezone may be easier to plan.
Magnezone: defensive and special pressure
Magnezone changes the team’s defensive profile through its Electric/Steel typing. That distinction is the reason to select it: it can occupy a slot that contributes both Electric offense and a Steel-based set of resistances, rather than behaving like another pure Electric attacker.

- A defensive identity that can give the team safer entries against attacks other Electric choices do not handle in the same way.
- Special pressure for teams that are already crowded with physical attackers.
- A sturdier backbone for a slower or balance-oriented composition.
What to account for
Dual typing is a trade, not a free upgrade. Magnezone also inherits the weaknesses and matchup demands associated with Steel, and it may require a particular evolution or acquisition method depending on the game. Confirm those details before replacing a readily available Pikachu-line member with it.

Bellibolt: a bulky, deliberate option
Bellibolt suits a team that values staying power over immediate speed. Instead of asking the Electric slot to win through rapid pressure, this choice gives the roster a slower presence that can absorb pressure, trade effectively and keep operating after a single exchange.
When Bellibolt fits
- Your team has fast attackers already but lacks a durable Electric pivot.
- You prefer a measured battle plan built around positioning, recovery or repeated attacks.
- You need the Electric slot to remain useful after the first turn rather than committing to an all-out sweep.
How to support it
Build enough speed control, healing or hazard management around Bellibolt to compensate for its lower tempo. A bulky Pokémon still needs teammates that can cover its unfavorable matchups; do not assume one durable slot fixes every defensive gap.
Galvantula: speed and utility
Galvantula is the fast, utility-oriented alternative. Its Electric/Bug typing broadens the team’s coverage and gives the slot a different set of targets and vulnerabilities from a pure Electric attacker.
Why use Galvantula
- You want the Electric slot to act early and create momentum.
- Your roster benefits from Bug coverage in addition to Electric attacks.
- You are comfortable using utility moves or positioning rather than choosing only the strongest direct attack.
Its main limitation
Speed does not equal safety. Galvantula can struggle when it is forced to take powerful hits or face opponents that resist its available attacks. Pair it with defensive teammates and a plan for unfavorable matchups instead of treating speed as a substitute for bulk.
Role-based recommendations
If you know what your team lacks, the choice becomes straightforward:
Choose Raichu for the closest Pikachu substitute
This is the default answer for a familiar Electric attacker and the cleanest replacement when the new characters cannot be obtained or are not legal in your format.

Choose Pawmot for physical aggression
Select Pawmot when your damage plan needs an Electric/Fighting attacker that pressures opponents from the physical side and can operate at close range.

Pick Rotom when you want the option to change the slot’s secondary typing and utility profile by form rather than rebuilding the entire team.
Choose Magnezone for a sturdier special attacker
Use Magnezone when Electric/Steel defenses and special pressure solve a problem that another pure Electric Pokémon would leave open.
Choose Bellibolt for a slower bulky team
Bellibolt is appropriate when surviving and sustaining pressure matter more than moving first.
Choose Galvantula for fast utility
Galvantula is the better fit when speed, Bug coverage and momentum are more valuable than maximum durability.
A practical method for replacing the clone in your team
- Write down the slot’s job. Decide whether it is meant to attack physically, attack specially, switch into threats, provide utility or preserve the Pikachu-line theme.
- Record your current weaknesses. List repeated vulnerabilities, missing coverage and whether your team is too slow, too fragile or too dependent on one damage type.
- Remove options that duplicate an existing role. If you already have several fast pure Electric attackers, start with Magnezone, Bellibolt or Rotom rather than adding another near-identical slot.
- Check the game’s legal pool. Confirm that the Pokémon, its evolution method, form, moves and transfer status are available in the exact title and battle format you use.
- Build a provisional set. Choose moves, item and nature to support the role, then inspect whether the team still has answers to common threats.
- Test the complete six-Pokémon structure. Look for duplicated weaknesses, an overreliance on physical or special damage, and turns where the replacement cannot enter safely.
- Revisit the decision when official information arrives. If Pokémon Winds or Pokémon Waves publish statistics, abilities, typing or encounter rules for Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu, compare those confirmed facts with the same role framework.
Common mistakes to avoid
Ranking an unreleased character from appearance
A new look does not reveal base stats, typing, ability effects or movepool. Treating design as evidence produces a confident answer without a battle basis.

Assuming every Electric Pokémon fills the same slot
Raichu, Pawmot, Rotom, Magnezone, Bellibolt and Galvantula differ in speed, bulk, damage orientation, utility and secondary typing. The species name alone does not tell you whether the team improves.
Ignoring availability
A theoretically ideal replacement is irrelevant if your game does not include it, requires a trade or form item you cannot access, or restricts it from the format you play. Verify in-game legality before finalizing a roster.
Stacking weaknesses for visual consistency
A team built around mascot-style Electric Pokémon can become predictable and difficult to switch. Keep the theme if you enjoy it, but use dual typing, bulk or utility to prevent every slot from performing the same job.

Fast Pokémon still need safe entries and suitable coverage. A slower bulky choice can be more valuable if the rest of the team already wins the speed race.
What to do while Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves remain unconfirmed
Build with an established option now and keep the replacement slot flexible. Raichu is the simplest temporary choice for a Pikachu-centered team; Rotom is the easiest placeholder when you expect the role to change after learning more about the new characters. If your roster has a clear structural need, solve that need with Pawmot, Magnezone, Bellibolt or Galvantula instead of waiting for a reveal.
The only confirmed conclusion about Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu at this stage is that they are newly presented special Pikachu characters associated with the two announced games. Their competitive value remains undetermined until official battle information is released.
