The best alternative depends on what you want to improve over the MSI Codex R2. Choose the Dell Tower Plus RTX 5070 for the closest Nvidia-based comparison, the iBuyPower RDY Element 9 Pro R07 for more memory, storage and gaming headroom, or the HP Omen 35L RTX 5070 Ti for a higher graphics tier. The Acer Predator Orion 5000 is a tested mid-range tower with published game results, while the Lenovo Legion 7i Gen 10 is the practical choice only when you need a portable RTX 5070 system.
The MSI reference configuration is already a complete Windows 11 desktop with a Core Ultra 7 265F, GeForce RTX 5070, 16GB of DDR5, a 1TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe drive and a 650W 80 Plus Gold power supply. An alternative is worthwhile when it gives you a clear advantage in GPU class, capacity, measured performance, portability or upgrade potential—not simply because it carries a different logo.

That combination targets high-refresh 1080p and 1440p gaming. The RTX 5070 is the baseline against which the alternatives should be judged. A system with a faster graphics card can improve demanding-game frame rates, but CPU choice, cooling, power limits and the game’s settings still affect the result. A system with twice the memory or storage may feel better in everyday use even when its GPU is in the same class.
MSI presents the Codex R2 as fully assembled and ready to use with Windows 11: connect the display, network and peripherals, then install updates and games. That is manufacturer positioning rather than an independent performance measurement. Verify the exact SKU before ordering because another Codex R2 variant may use different memory, storage, power or wireless hardware.
iBuyPower RDY Element 9 Pro R07: the performance-first alternative
Why it stands out
The RDY Element 9 Pro R07 changes both the processor platform and the graphics card. Tom’s Guide lists an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Radeon RX 9070 XT, 32GB of DDR5 and a 2TB PCIe Gen4 SSD. That gives it twice the MSI reference memory and storage, plus a step-up GPU class aimed at buyers who want more room for demanding 1440p games and occasional 4K play.
The Ryzen 7 7800X3D is a gaming-focused processor, while the RX 9070 XT supplies the graphics uplift. Do not treat the larger specification sheet as a guarantee that every game will be faster: graphics APIs, ray-tracing use, upscaling, driver versions and the particular vendor’s power limit all matter. It is nevertheless the clearest choice when your priority is a stronger overall gaming platform rather than an Nvidia-specific feature set.
Published performance
In Tom’s Guide testing of this configuration, Cyberpunk 2077 averaged 80 frames per second at 1080p and 24 frames per second at 4K. The review describes the machine as a strong 1440p performer that can approach 4K play in demanding games. These numbers belong to the tested RDY configuration; a similarly named listing with different memory, cooling or firmware may perform differently.
Who should buy it
- Choose it if you regularly run large games, creative applications or many background programs and want 32GB of memory from the start.
- Choose it if a 2TB system drive is more useful than the MSI’s 1TB capacity and you would rather delay a storage upgrade.
- Choose it if your monitor is 1440p with a high refresh rate and you want more GPU margin than the RTX 5070 baseline.
Check the exact video outputs, wireless adapter, motherboard expansion slots and power-supply rating on the seller’s configuration page. Those details determine how easily you can add drives, memory or accessories later.

Dell Tower Plus RTX 5070: the closest Nvidia comparison
Why it is the direct alternative
The Dell Tower Plus configuration tested by Tom’s Guide uses an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070, matching the MSI’s GPU class. It is therefore the most useful apples-to-apples comparison for shoppers who want Nvidia features and performance without moving to a higher graphics tier.

Tom’s Guide recorded 68 fps in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p and 19 fps at 4K for the tested Dell configuration. The exact processor, memory, storage, power supply and price are not stated in the comparison summary, and Dell’s regional listings can change those parts. Treat the benchmark as evidence for that reviewed system, not as a universal result for every Tower Plus sold under the name.
How to compare it with the Codex R2
- Open the Dell listing for your country and record the exact CPU model, installed memory and SSD capacity.
- Confirm whether the power supply provides suitable headroom for the installed RTX 5070 and any future drives or expansion cards.
- Compare wireless connectivity, front-panel ports, service coverage and the number of accessible memory and storage slots.
- Compare the delivered price, including taxes and shipping, on the same day. A list price from another country is not a meaningful value comparison.
The Dell is the sensible shortlist choice when matching the MSI’s GPU is more important than gaining a faster card. It becomes less compelling if the configured memory or storage is lower than the Codex R2’s 16GB and 1TB baseline.
HP Omen 35L RTX 5070 Ti: the step-up option
More graphics performance
HP’s tested Omen 35L combines an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti. Both the CPU and GPU sit above the MSI reference parts in the cited configuration, making this the alternative for buyers willing to spend more for a higher performance ceiling.
Tom’s Guide reports 91 fps in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p and 32 fps at 4K. The 4K result is materially higher than the 19 fps reported for the tested Dell RTX 5070 system, but the two machines also use different processors and configurations. Do not turn the figures into a fixed percentage for every game.

What to verify before paying the premium
- Power supply: confirm its wattage, efficiency rating and available connectors for the RTX 5070 Ti.
- Cooling: check the CPU cooler, case-fan layout and whether the listing identifies any thermal or acoustic limits.
- Memory and storage: a higher GPU tier does not automatically mean more RAM or a larger SSD than the MSI.
- Total price: compare the complete configured system rather than the Omen family name, because 35L variants differ.
Select the Omen 35L when your monitor, games and budget justify the higher GPU tier. If you mainly play esports titles at 1080p, the extra graphics hardware may deliver less practical benefit than additional memory, storage or a better display.

Acer Predator Orion 5000: a tested mid-range tower
Published results and price context
TechRadar lists a UK starting price of £2,199 for the Predator Orion 5000 and describes it as a balanced mid-range desktop. Its reported results are 184 fps in Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 1080p High, 158 fps in Total War: Warhammer III at 1080p Ultra, 95 fps in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p Ultra and 100 fps in F1 2024 at 1080p High.
These are useful named-game results because each number includes the resolution and quality preset. They are not interchangeable with the Cyberpunk figures from Tom’s Guide: different systems, test methods, settings and reviewers can produce different outcomes. Use them to understand the tested Orion 5000’s behavior, not to construct a universal ranking across reviews.
Configuration caution
Orion 5000 variants differ by region and generation. Confirm the exact GPU, CPU, memory, SSD, power supply and operating system on the UK or local listing you intend to purchase. The £2,199 figure is a UK starting price, not a worldwide price and not necessarily the price of the configuration that produced the published results.

TechRadar notes that cheaper HP Victus 15L and Omen 16L systems have lower specifications. That observation helps place the Orion 5000 within Acer’s reviewed mid-range segment, but it does not establish that every Orion 5000 is faster than every Codex R2. Match the component list before drawing that conclusion.
Lenovo Legion 7i Gen 10: choose mobility instead of a tower
Lenovo identifies the Legion 7i Gen 10 Intel 16-inch model 83KY0002US with an RTX 5070. It is a laptop, so it solves a different problem from the Codex R2 desktop: you can carry the complete gaming system, display and battery between locations.
Desktop and laptop RTX 5070 implementations should not be compared by the GPU name alone. A laptop’s power limit, cooling profile, screen resolution, refresh rate, fan noise and battery behavior influence sustained performance. The laptop also has less internal space for upgrades than a tower, although the exact memory and storage access depends on the model.

When the Legion makes sense
- You need to take your gaming PC to school, work, events or multiple homes.
- You already have a suitable external monitor or prefer an integrated 16-inch display.
- You accept that plugged-in gaming is the normal operating mode for demanding titles.
Choose a desktop alternative instead if maximum sustained performance, quieter operation, easy part replacement or large future upgrades matters more than portability. Compare the Legion’s display specification, charger, installed memory and SSD directly with the local listing before ordering.

GPU class and VRAM
The Codex R2’s RTX 5070 is the reference point. The Dell stays in that class; the HP moves to an RTX 5070 Ti; and the iBuyPower uses an RX 9070 XT. Higher-tier hardware can help at 1440p and 4K, but vendor power limits and game settings affect the outcome. Check the card’s VRAM capacity and the games you play rather than assuming the model number alone predicts longevity.
CPU gaming performance
The MSI uses an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F. The iBuyPower uses a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, and the HP configuration uses a Ryzen 7 9800X3D. Those processors come from different platforms and should be evaluated with the complete system, including cooling and memory configuration. The Dell and Acer CPU specifications must be confirmed on their individual regional listings before a CPU-based decision.
Memory and storage
Sixteen gigabytes of DDR5 and a 1TB Gen4 NVMe SSD are adequate starting points, but modern game installs and multitasking can consume that capacity quickly. The iBuyPower’s cited 32GB and 2TB combination is the only alternative in the supplied configurations with both figures explicitly established. For every other model, record the actual installed capacity from the listing rather than inferring it from the product family.
How the published benchmarks should guide your choice

| HP Omen 35L RTX 5070 Ti, Tom’s Guide | Cyberpunk 2077 | 4K | 32 fps |
The table combines two review sources, so it is not a controlled head-to-head test. The Acer results include named quality presets; the Tom’s Guide summary identifies resolution but does not establish a common preset for every Cyberpunk result. Use the figures to understand each reviewed configuration and to set expectations, then prioritize your own monitor resolution and game library.
A practical buying checklist
- Identify your target resolution. For 1080p, prioritize consistent frame rates, CPU capability and display refresh. For 1440p, GPU headroom becomes more important. For 4K, consider the RTX 5070 Ti or RX 9070 XT class if your budget and games justify it.
- Write down the exact SKU. Include the processor, graphics card, memory kit, SSD, motherboard, power supply and operating system. Family names such as Codex R2, Orion 5000 and Omen 35L cover multiple builds.
- Check upgrade access. Look for open DIMM slots, M.2 sockets, SATA connectors, available PCIe slots and a removable side panel. Confirm that the power supply and case can support the part you intend to add.
- Inspect cooling information. Prefer listings that identify the CPU cooler and case fans. Do not infer temperatures or noise from a marketing description; independent measurements are needed for those claims.
- Confirm connectivity. Count the display outputs, USB ports, Ethernet speed and wireless standard you need. The MSI reference explicitly includes Wi-Fi 6E; alternatives may use different adapters.
- Read the warranty terms. Check duration, regional coverage, return window and whether opening the case affects service. The MSI reference lists a one-year warranty; other systems require confirmation from the seller.
- Compare delivered cost and stock. Use your own country, currency and tax treatment. Prices and availability change, and the £2,199 Orion 5000 figure is specifically a UK starting price.
Which alternative fits each buyer?
Choose Dell for the closest match
Pick the Dell Tower Plus when you want an RTX 5070 desktop and prefer to compare two systems in the same graphics class. Make the decision only after confirming that the Dell’s configured memory, storage and power supply meet or exceed the Codex R2 reference.
Best Value

- Turn on the Bright Lights: With the built-in RGB lighting, take your gaming experience to the next level by pressing the MSI LED button to cycle through lighting options. Customize lighting even further with MSI Center software.
Choose iBuyPower for capacity and 1440p headroom
Pick the RDY Element 9 Pro R07 when 32GB of RAM, a 2TB SSD and a stronger graphics platform are worth more than staying with Nvidia. It is the most persuasive alternative for a buyer who wants fewer immediate upgrades.
Choose HP for a higher performance ceiling
Pick the Omen 35L RTX 5070 Ti when you can justify the premium and your games or monitor will use the extra GPU capability. Verify power, cooling and total price before treating it as better value.
Choose Acer for a documented mid-range result set
Pick the Predator Orion 5000 when the reviewed 1080p game results and balanced mid-range positioning match your needs. Confirm the local configuration because the model name spans different hardware.
Choose Lenovo only when portability is decisive
Pick the Legion 7i Gen 10 when carrying the system matters more than tower expansion, sustained plugged-in performance and desktop ergonomics. Compare its screen and power behavior as a laptop, not as a smaller Codex R2.
Bottom line
For most shoppers replacing or avoiding the MSI Codex R2 RTX 5070, the decision is straightforward: Dell is the nearest Nvidia desktop equivalent, iBuyPower offers the strongest capacity-and-headroom upgrade in the cited configurations, HP supplies the clearest GPU step-up, Acer provides a useful mid-range benchmarked tower, and Lenovo is the mobility choice. Verify the exact regional configuration, warranty, power supply, cooling and live delivered price before you place the order.
