Short answer: choose the REDMAGIC Astra 2 if gaming performance is your first priority, the OnePlus Pad 3 if you want a larger everyday Android tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE for notes and productivity, or the Apple iPad mini if you prefer iPadOS and its app ecosystem. None is a perfect one-for-one replacement for the compact Lenovo Legion Tab, so decide whether you value maximum gaming power, pocketable size, work features, or operating-system continuity before comparing prices.
The Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 3 remains an unusually focused baseline: an 8.8-inch, 2560×1600, 165Hz panel, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 12GB of memory, 256GB of storage and a 6,550mAh battery. Lenovo now lists later Legion Tab generations in some markets, however, so verify the exact model and regional SKU before treating Gen 3 specifications as current.
What makes a good Legion Tab alternative?
A useful alternative must be judged on more than processor speed. The Legion Tab’s appeal comes from a combination of high refresh rate, small chassis, flagship-level Android performance and a gaming-friendly aspect ratio. A larger tablet can be better for documents and split-screen work but less comfortable to hold during a long game. An iPad can offer excellent apps and long support while changing the games, accessories and file-management habits you rely on.

Use these questions in order:
- How portable must it be? The Legion Tab class is compact. The OnePlus Pad 3 and Galaxy Tab S10 FE trade that portability for larger screens.
- What games do you play? Competitive games benefit from high refresh rates and sustained cooling; less demanding titles may run well on a productivity tablet.
- Do you need notes, a keyboard or desktop-style multitasking? Those needs favor the larger Samsung or OnePlus models.
- Are you committed to Android? The iPad mini is a compact option, but iPadOS has a different app, accessory and file-management ecosystem.
- What is actually sold where you live? Stock, warranty, storage configurations and support commitments vary by country and change over time.
At-a-glance comparison
The sources do not provide one common laboratory benchmark for every tablet, so the table uses documented specifications and editorial positioning rather than pretending that mixed review scores are directly comparable.

1. REDMAGIC Astra 2: the gaming-first alternative
For readers who want a tablet primarily for demanding games, the REDMAGIC Astra 2 is the clearest candidate in this comparison. TechRadar’s 2026 Android tablet guide names it the gaming pick and reports a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, up to 16GB of RAM, liquid cooling and an OLED display capable of up to 185Hz. That combination gives it a higher stated refresh ceiling than the Legion Tab Gen 3’s 165Hz panel.
Why gamers should consider it
- High-refresh OLED: OLED contrast and an advertised 185Hz maximum refresh can make supported games and scrolling look exceptionally fluid.
- Gaming-oriented thermal design: liquid cooling is intended for sustained loads, which is more relevant to long sessions than a short burst of benchmark performance.
- Flagship-class platform: the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and up to 16GB RAM give it a performance-first specification.
What you give up
TechRadar also flags software bloat and a conspicuous gaming aesthetic. Those drawbacks matter if the tablet will sit on a work desk, be used for reading, or share a room with more understated devices. The Astra 2 is not established here as a compact, same-size substitute for the Legion Tab; verify its dimensions before assuming it will fit a small sling or controller mount.
Who should buy it
Choose the Astra 2 when graphics settings, refresh rate and sustained gaming rank above minimalist software and neutral styling. Before ordering, confirm the exact RAM and storage configuration, charger, cellular or Wi-Fi variant, regional firmware, warranty process and return policy. The reviewed guide does not establish universal stock or a single global price.
2. OnePlus Pad 3: the larger everyday Android choice
The OnePlus Pad 3 is the better fit for someone who wants one Android tablet for browsing, streaming, office work and occasional gaming rather than a small gaming slate. TechRadar calls it a strong everyday-use all-rounder, highlights a smooth 144Hz display and reports long battery life in its review.
Why the larger format helps
- A larger screen gives documents, spreadsheets, web pages and split-screen apps more usable space.
- Video and multitasking are more comfortable when you do not need to hold the tablet close to your face.
- A 144Hz panel remains fast enough for fluid navigation and games that support high refresh rates.
The portability trade-off
The Pad 3 is substantially larger than the compact Legion Tab class. It is a poor choice if you expect to play one-handed on a commute or keep the tablet in a jacket pocket. Its size can also make a controller-and-tablet setup less portable, even if the screen is more immersive at a desk.
Availability and support caveat
TechRadar describes the Pad 3 as premium-priced and notes that OnePlus has left the US and Europe, while existing products remain supported with software updates for years. That situation can change. Check the manufacturer’s current country list, an authorized retailer, the warranty issuer and the stated update policy rather than importing a unit with uncertain service coverage.

3. Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE: productivity before maximum graphics
The Galaxy Tab S10 FE is aimed at readers who value notes, school or office work and a generous screen more than the highest sustained gaming settings. TechRadar’s review lists a 10.9-inch 2304×1440 90Hz LCD, Samsung’s Exynos 1580 processor, an 8,000mAh battery and support for 45W wired charging.

TechRadar lists 8GB of RAM with 128GB storage or 12GB with 256GB storage, plus microSD expansion up to 2TB. Expansion is useful for downloaded media and files, but it does not turn the Exynos platform into a flagship gaming device. Confirm whether the memory and storage combination you want is sold in your market; configurations can vary by region.
Gaming expectations
The 90Hz screen is smoother than a conventional 60Hz tablet, but it is below the refresh rates of the Legion Tab Gen 3, Astra 2 and OnePlus Pad 3. TechRadar cautions that demanding games may not run at maximum graphics and can make the tablet warm. It is suitable for mainstream games and occasional play, not the strongest option for a competitive player who wants maximum settings throughout a long session.
Launch pricing, not a current quote
TechRadar recorded April 10, 2025 launch list prices of $549.99 for the US Wi-Fi model and $649.99 for US 5G. The same review listed £539 and £639 in the UK and AU$849 and AU$1,049 in Australia for the corresponding Wi-Fi and 5G versions. These are historical list prices, not current street prices or a promise of present stock. Compare today’s local price with the cost of any keyboard, stylus or storage card you actually need.
4. Apple iPad mini: the compact option when iPadOS is the priority
The iPad mini is the most direct compact alternative in physical concept, but it is not an Android replacement. Apple’s official technical-specifications page is the authority for the current model’s processor, storage, connectivity and dimensions. Tom’s Guide’s comparison presents the mini alongside the Legion Tab Gen 3 and notes a fundamental aspect-ratio difference: 3:2 on the iPad mini versus 16:10 on the Legion.
Choose it for the ecosystem, not a spec-sheet match
The decision is primarily about operating system, apps and services. iPadOS may be the better fit if your work, family purchases, cloud files or creative apps already live with Apple. Android games and iPadOS games can differ in availability, pricing, controller support, save synchronization and account systems. Do not assume that a title bought on one platform, or its downloadable content, automatically transfers to the other.

How the Legion Tab baseline compares
Size and handling
The Gen 3’s 8.8-inch panel is the smallest documented screen in this group. That makes it easier to hold for games and travel, while the 10.9-inch Samsung and larger OnePlus provide more room for documents and multitasking. The Astra 2’s exact physical dimensions are not established in the cited guide, so do not describe it as equally compact without checking its regional product page. The iPad mini belongs in the compact category but uses a different 3:2 shape.
Refresh rate and panel type
Legion Gen 3: 165Hz LCD-class specification with Dolby Vision and HDR10 support in Lenovo PSREF. Astra 2: OLED up to 185Hz, according to TechRadar. OnePlus Pad 3: 144Hz, according to TechRadar. Galaxy Tab S10 FE: 90Hz LCD. For games that render above 60 frames per second, a high-refresh panel can reduce perceived blur and input latency, but the game, graphics settings and thermal behavior still determine the experience.
Performance under sustained load
The Legion Gen 3’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Astra 2’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and the OnePlus platform are the performance-oriented choices in the evidence available here. The Samsung’s Exynos 1580 is positioned more conservatively. There is no single head-to-head benchmark covering every model, so treat processor names and reviewer descriptions as indicators, not a precise league table.

Tom’s Guide reports 6,550mAh for its Gen 3 device and 15 hours 40 minutes in that publication’s battery test. That result belongs to one tested unit under Tom’s Guide’s conditions; it is not a guaranteed runtime for every game, brightness level or network mode. Samsung’s listed battery is 8,000mAh, but capacity alone does not predict endurance. TechRadar reports long battery life for the OnePlus Pad 3 without establishing a common test result here.
Storage and expansion
The documented Legion Gen 3 configuration is 256GB. Samsung explicitly offers microSD expansion up to 2TB, while storage and expansion details for the Astra 2, OnePlus Pad 3 and current iPad mini configuration are not established in the cited material. If you install large games, download video or keep work files locally, verify the exact SKU instead of relying on a family name.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Controllers and accessories
A telescopic controller can make a compact tablet feel closer to a handheld console, but fit is not universal. Tom’s Guide’s reviewer says they used a Razer Kishi Ultra with the Legion Tab Gen 3 and had to remove the folio cover, while the tablet’s case could remain. Treat that as one reviewer’s setup, not a guarantee for every tablet, case or controller combination.

Before buying a controller
- Measure the tablet’s thickness and USB-C-port position with its case installed.
- Check the controller’s supported width range and whether its bridge blocks buttons, speakers or cameras.
- Confirm Android or iPadOS compatibility for the games you play.
- Check whether the controller draws power from the tablet and how that affects a long session.
- Keep a Bluetooth controller as an alternative if a telescopic model cannot accommodate the tablet safely.
Buying checklist for any market
- Exact model: write down the generation, RAM, storage, Wi-Fi or cellular variant and regional model number.
- Current price: compare today’s manufacturer and authorized-retailer prices; do not treat launch prices as current.
- Warranty: verify who handles repairs in your country, especially for imported gaming tablets.
- Software: check the update commitment, regional firmware and whether preinstalled gaming utilities can be disabled.
- Thermals: look for a case that does not cover vents, and expect heat or reduced performance if a demanding game sustains maximum load.
- Display: confirm brightness behavior, refresh-rate modes and whether your favorite games support high refresh.
- Storage: account for the operating system and game sizes; microSD is useful for media but may not deliver the same performance as internal storage.
- Accessories: price the charger, case, stylus, keyboard and controller as a complete setup.
- Returns: make sure the retailer accepts returns if an imported model lacks your preferred language, cellular bands or app support.
Which alternative should you choose?
Pick REDMAGIC Astra 2 when gaming is everything
It is the researched gaming pick, with the highest stated refresh rate, OLED, liquid cooling and a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Accept the gaming styling and software bloat, and verify size and local support.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesPick OnePlus Pad 3 for a large Android all-rounder
Choose it when screen area, smooth everyday use and long battery life matter more than pocketability. Check the changing US and Europe availability before importing.
Pick Galaxy Tab S10 FE for work, notes and expandable storage
Its 10.9-inch screen, microSD support and productivity focus outweigh its lower 90Hz refresh rate when demanding games are occasional rather than central.
Pick iPad mini for compact iPadOS
Choose it when Apple’s apps and services are the deciding factor. Confirm game availability and accessory compatibility instead of expecting Android equivalence.
Keep the Legion Tab when compact Android gaming is non-negotiable
If the 8.8-inch size, 165Hz display, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and two-USB-C Gen 3 setup already match your needs, moving to a larger or different operating system may solve a problem you do not have. Verify whether you are comparing against Gen 3 or a later Legion Tab listing before deciding that an alternative is faster or better value.
Quick Recap
Common mistakes to avoid
- Comparing refresh rates alone: a 185Hz panel does not make every game render at 185 frames per second.
- Calling every compact tablet a Legion equivalent: the OnePlus Pad 3 and Galaxy Tab S10 FE are larger-format devices.
- Using launch prices as today’s prices: Samsung’s figures above are dated April 10, 2025 launch list prices.
- Assuming imported support: regional warranty, cellular bands, chargers and software can differ.
- Ignoring heat: sustained performance can change as a device warms; Samsung’s review specifically notes warmth during demanding games.
- Assuming cross-platform saves: iPadOS and Android versions of the same game may use different stores or account systems.
- Buying a controller without measuring: cases and folios can prevent a secure fit, as the Legion Gen 3 example demonstrates.
