Who should choose ROG Ally X
- You alternate between several launchers instead of keeping everything in Steam.
- You subscribe to Xbox PC Game Pass and want native access on the handheld.
- You install mods, use trainers or manage files manually.
- You want one device that can also run desktop applications.
- You accept a little more setup and maintenance in exchange for compatibility.

That report does not establish a universal ranking across every game, resolution or power limit.
When the premium makes sense
- You care about a larger, OLED-oriented viewing experience and contrast more than minimum cost.
- You play demanding games where additional performance headroom has visible value.
- You are comfortable paying materially more than competing handhelds for a preferred configuration.
- You have checked the exact panel, memory, storage and processor in the regional model you intend to buy.
The Claw’s premium should be justified by a specific benefit you will notice: display quality, sustained performance or a configuration that better fits your library. Portable processors can deliver very different results depending on their power limit, cooling profile, game resolution, frame-rate target and upscaling settings. A headline Ryzen or AI-series designation does not establish a universal winner. - Choose the games you actually play, including at least one demanding 3D title and one lighter title.

Battery and portability: capacity is only the starting point
Lenovo specifies a 55.5Wh battery and approximately 730g for the Legion Go S announcement. That gives you a concrete reference for capacity and weight, but it does not predict a fixed number of gaming hours. A high-refresh display, high brightness, demanding processor mode and an intensive game can consume energy much faster than a capped frame rate in a lightweight title.
No directly comparable battery figures for Steam Deck OLED, ROG Ally X or MSI Claw models are established in published specifications and tests. Do not infer that one alternative has the “best battery” from capacity alone. Check the exact model’s watt-hours, charger, tested runtime conditions and weight before deciding.
Questions to ask about portability
- Can you hold the device comfortably at its listed weight for your typical session?
- Does the supplied charger fit how you travel, or will you carry a separate USB-C charger?
- Will the display remain readable at the brightness level you actually use?
- Does your preferred performance mode require frequent charging?
Display differences: size, ratio, refresh and OLED trade-offs

OLED can provide deeper perceived blacks and high contrast, but the exact panel size, refresh rate and brightness are SKU-specific. Steam Deck OLED prioritizes OLED contrast and SteamOS integration. ROG Ally X should be assessed against the particular display specification in the regional listing rather than assumed to match either competitor.
For a bigger-screen SteamOS handheld, compare the Legion Go S directly with Steam Deck OLED on the dimensions you notice most: diagonal size, aspect ratio, refresh rate, brightness, contrast and weight. A larger panel can improve readability while also increasing the physical size you carry.
Memory and storage: buy the configuration you cannot replace
Lenovo lists the Legion Go S at up to 32GB LPDDR5X memory and up to 1TB PCIe Gen4 storage. The Lenovo PSREF entry specifically identifies a SteamOS configuration with 16GB of soldered LPDDR5X-7500. Because soldered memory is not a normal user upgrade, verify the capacity before checkout.

How much memory matters
More memory can help when a game, background services and texture data compete for system resources, but capacity alone does not guarantee higher frame rates.
