The itel City 300 5G is priced at ₹14,999, leaving almost no room below a ₹15,000 ceiling for accessories or a price drop. It is worth comparing before you buy: current Indian buying guides also list the Lava Virat V1 5G, Samsung Galaxy A16 5G, Poco C85x 5G, Xiaomi Redmi 14C 5G and Realme 12X in this budget range. Choose among them by checking the exact variant, display resolution, memory, charging speed, software policy and local availability rather than assuming that every 5G phone offers the same experience.
What the itel City 300 5G gives you for ₹14,999
itel’s India catalog lists the City 300 5G at ₹14,999. India Today records a 13 October 2026 launch at the same price, while Beebom reports that sales are through offline stores. The phone’s specification is clearly aimed at buyers who want basic 5G connectivity and a large, smooth-looking screen without exceeding the budget.

Where the City 300 is attractive
- 5G at the budget limit: It supports 5G while staying just below the ₹15,000 threshold.
- High refresh rate: 120Hz can make scrolling and compatible animations look smoother than a 60Hz panel.
- Large battery: The 5,000mAh cell is a useful capacity for long periods away from a charger, although endurance depends on network signal, brightness, software and usage.
- USB-C: The reversible connector is more convenient than the older Micro-USB standard.
Where you should be cautious
- HD+ rather than Full HD: Text, photographs and fine interface elements will not be as detailed as on a Full HD display of similar size.
- Entry-level memory: 4GB RAM and 64GB storage leave less headroom for large games, offline video and many installed apps. Virtual RAM uses storage and is not equivalent to physical RAM.
- Slow charging: 10W charging means top-ups are likely to take longer than on phones offering higher-wattage adapters.
- Camera claims need context: A 13MP rear camera and 8MP selfie camera describe resolution, not dynamic range, night performance, focusing speed or video quality.
- Software support is not established: Launch coverage identifies Android 16 Go Edition and itelOS, but does not establish a long-term update schedule.
Current alternatives under or around ₹15,000
NDTV Gadgets 360’s 14 October 2026 guide names the Lava Virat V1 5G, Samsung Galaxy A16 5G and Poco C85x 5G among its best 5G phones under ₹15,000. Smartprix’s October 2026 list also includes the Xiaomi Redmi 14C 5G and Realme 12X. Those guides establish that the models are contenders in this price band, not that every storage variant is always below ₹15,000. Prices, offers and stock can change by seller and date.
| Phone | Guide and date | What is established | What to verify before paying |

| Realme 12X | Smartprix, October 2026 | Included in the current sub-₹15,000 field | Exact Indian model, memory tier, display panel, adapter and retailer terms |
Because the available launch coverage does not provide a complete, independently tested specification sheet for each rival, the table deliberately avoids inventing prices, benchmark scores or camera results. Use the verification steps below to turn this shortlist into a reliable purchase decision.

Compare the things that change the experience
1. Display resolution matters more than the 120Hz number
The City 300 combines a large screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, but its HD+ resolution is the limiting factor for fine detail. A competing phone with Full HD resolution can render smaller text and high-resolution video more crisply; an AMOLED panel can provide deeper blacks and stronger contrast than an LCD. Those advantages are only meaningful if the specific rival you find actually has them, so read the Indian product page for the exact model rather than relying on a family name.
Check three items in the listing: resolution, panel type and whether the advertised refresh rate is available at the resolution and power mode you intend to use. A high refresh rate also consumes more power, and some phones switch automatically between rates.
2. Performance is tied to both the chipset and the storage tier
The City 300 uses the Unisoc T8200 with 4GB of physical RAM and 64GB of storage. That combination is suitable for ordinary communication, streaming and light multitasking, but buyers who install large games or keep many apps should inspect the rival’s processor, RAM type and free storage. Two phones with the same advertised RAM can behave differently if one uses a faster chipset or has more storage available for app updates.
Do not treat virtual-RAM expansion as a substitute for a higher physical-RAM configuration. It reserves part of internal storage and can help only in particular multitasking situations; it does not turn an entry-level phone into a gaming model.

3. Camera resolution is not a quality score
The published City 300 figures are 13MP on the rear and 8MP on the front. Before choosing another phone for photography, look for information about autofocus, stabilization, night mode, portrait processing and maximum video resolution. Megapixels alone cannot tell you how a camera handles moving subjects, indoor scenes or backlit faces.
If a shop allows it, capture the same subject on each display model and inspect fine text, shadow detail and skin tones at 100 percent. This is more informative than comparing sensor numbers in a product title. Also confirm whether the model has a usable ultrawide camera; a second low-resolution sensor may be less useful than a well-tuned main camera.
4. Battery capacity and charging speed solve different problems
The City 300’s 5,000mAh battery addresses capacity, while its 10W charging rate determines how quickly that capacity can be replenished. A phone with a similar battery but a faster official charger may be more convenient for commuters who have short charging windows. Conversely, a faster charger does not guarantee longer battery life.
Check whether the adapter is included, whether the stated wattage is reached with the supplied charger, and whether replacement chargers are readily available. Compare endurance claims only when the test conditions are stated; the available launch material does not provide controlled battery-runtime measurements for the City 300 or its alternatives.
Rank #3
- Fluid 120Hz Display: Features a large 6.7-inch HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for smooth scrolling and added durability.
5. Software edition and update policy deserve a separate check
Launch coverage identifies Android 16 Go Edition with itelOS on the City 300. Go Edition is designed for lower-resource hardware, which can be appropriate for a 4GB phone, but the practical question is how long the manufacturer will provide security and system updates. The available material does not establish a long-term itel schedule, and the same policy should be checked separately for every rival.
Open the manufacturer’s support page and look for a written security-update period, major Android-version commitment and update frequency for the exact Indian model. Also review the preinstalled-app list and whether unwanted apps can be removed. A phone that receives updates reliably can remain safer and more usable even if its launch specification is less exciting.
6. Network bands and local availability can override a paper comparison
A 5G logo does not identify which bands a phone supports. Ask the seller or manufacturer for the Indian band list and confirm compatibility with your operator and city. This matters especially when buying an imported or marketplace listing that uses the same model name as an Indian variant.

The City 300 is reported as an offline-store product. That can help you inspect the screen and obtain local service, but it also means stock and pricing may differ from online listings. Which alternative fits each type of buyer?
| Your priority | How to decide | What would disqualify a phone |
|---|---|---|
| Sharp text and video | Choose the candidate whose exact variant specifies Full HD resolution or an AMOLED panel, provided the price remains within your limit. | Do not pay extra for a high refresh rate if the panel remains too low-resolution for your viewing distance. |
| Gaming and heavy multitasking | Prioritize the strongest independently documented chipset, at least the higher available physical-RAM tier and adequate free storage. | Reject a model when the listing hides the processor or offers only 64GB for your game library. |
| Quick top-ups | Compare the official charger wattage and charging protocol, not just battery capacity. | A large battery with a slow adapter may not suit short charging breaks. |
| Photography | Look for autofocus, stabilization, night processing and credible sample images in addition to sensor resolution. | Do not select solely because a listing advertises more megapixels. |
| Long-term ownership | Prefer a phone with a clearly stated security and Android-update policy, a local warranty and available service. | A bargain is less attractive when the update commitment or warranty region is unclear. |
| Lowest immediate risk | Buy the Indian variant from an authorized seller, inspect the unit and obtain a tax invoice. | A marketplace listing with an unfamiliar importer, missing model code or unclear return terms. |
How to buy the right phone without relying on a headline price
- Set the real budget. Reserve money for a case, screen protection and, if necessary, a replacement charger. Since the City 300 is listed at ₹14,999, even a small accessory purchase can push the total beyond ₹15,000.
- Write down your non-negotiables. Decide whether display clarity, gaming, camera use, charging speed, software support or offline service matters most. A single priority prevents a flashy specification from dominating the decision.
- Identify the exact model code and memory tier. Do not compare a 4GB/64GB phone with a higher-tier listing and assume they are the same product. Record RAM, storage and colour for the unit you will actually receive.
- Check the complete display specification. Record resolution, panel type, refresh-rate modes, peak-brightness claim and protection glass if stated. Ask to see the screen at the intended brightness before buying offline.
- Confirm the processor and network bands. Match the chipset to your workload and verify Indian 4G/5G bands with your operator. Avoid a listing that names only “octa-core” without identifying the platform.
- Inspect the box contents. Confirm the adapter, USB cable, SIM tool and warranty card. Charging performance depends on the supplied adapter and supported protocol, not just the phone’s port.
- Read software and warranty terms. Check the manufacturer’s update statement, preinstalled apps, service-centre coverage and the seller’s return process. Keep the invoice and photograph the serial number at unboxing.
- Recheck the final price on the purchase date. Current guides are snapshots, and retailer discounts, exchange offers, stock and variant prices can change. Compare the delivered price rather than the headline amount.
Common buying mistakes and how to avoid them
Confusing refresh rate with image sharpness
A 120Hz screen can scroll smoothly while still showing less detail than a Full HD 60Hz panel. Evaluate both measurements and your viewing habits.
Assuming every 5G model is operator-compatible
Band support varies by model and region. Verify the Indian variant before opening the box, especially when the seller is not an established local retailer.
Using virtual RAM as a reason to ignore storage
Virtual expansion consumes internal storage and cannot replace physical memory. If you keep photos, downloads and games locally, choose sufficient built-in storage first.
Recommended Free Tools
Comparing cameras by megapixels alone
Lens quality, autofocus, processing and stabilization often affect the result more than the pixel count printed on the box.
Best Value
- NEW built-in stylus. Jot notes, edit photos, sketch artwork, and navigate effortlessly with an improved stylus and updated software.
- 6.7" pOLED display and Dolby Atmos. Experience cinema-quality entertainment with over a billion shades of color and multidimensional sound*.
- 50MP Ultra Pixel camera + OIS. Capture sharper low-light photos and smoother videos with an unshakable camera system featuring Optical Image Stabilization.
- 30W TurboPower charging + over a day battery. Get hours of power in just minutes of charging, then work and play with unbelievable battery life**.
- Standout design. Make a statement with its stunning look, modern color, and soft, vegan leather finish.
Ignoring the charger
A phone may support a particular charging rate only with a compatible adapter. Confirm what is included and budget for an approved replacement if necessary.
Taking a “starting at” price as a guaranteed price
Lists often combine multiple variants and promotional offers. Confirm the exact RAM/storage configuration, seller, warranty and delivery charge at checkout.
Verdict: should you buy the City 300 or an alternative?
Choose the itel City 300 5G when you specifically want a 120Hz display, 5G, a 5,000mAh battery and USB-C at the ₹14,999 catalog price, and you are comfortable with HD+ resolution, 4GB/64GB memory and slow charging. Its offline availability can also be useful if you want to inspect the device and purchase locally.
