Short answer: there is no documented, universal SCSKiller replacement that warms DirectX 11 game-driver caches on both AMD and Intel Arc. Use Microsoft’s DirectX Shader Compiler (DXC) when you have HLSL source to compile, Intel Precompiled Shaders when you have a supported Arc system and Steam game, and AMD Radeon Shader Cache as the normal AMD driver-level setting. SCSKiller’s published support does not include Intel GPUs, and its documented DirectX 11 path is focused on NVIDIA.

Start by separating shader compilation from shader-cache warming

The word “compile” covers two different jobs. A game developer can compile HLSL source into a distributable shader intermediate representation. A player can also prewarm a graphics-driver cache by making a utility enumerate a game’s pipelines before the first launch. Those jobs use different inputs, outputs and trust boundaries.

Microsoft’s DirectX Shader Compiler (DXC) is an HLSL compiler and toolchain. It produces DXIL for DirectX Shader Model 6 and newer workflows, can emit SPIR-V for Vulkan, and includes validation and shader-library tooling. It does not take an arbitrary retail game’s already-compiled DirectX 11 DXBC files and turn them into AMD or Intel driver-cache entries.

SCSKiller is a cache-warming utility. Its project documentation describes finding game shader pipelines and compiling shipped shaders into the GPU driver’s cache before play. The repository states that Intel GPUs are not supported and lists DirectX 11 support for NVIDIA, with architecture-specific behavior for other published paths. That makes it unsuitable as a universal answer for AMD and Arc.

Intel and AMD therefore require vendor-specific approaches. Intel’s Precompiled Shaders feature downloads Intel-provided, hardware- and driver-matched files for supported Steam games. AMD’s Radeon Shader Cache controls how the Radeon driver stores and reuses compiled shaders for DirectX 9, 10 and 11 applications.

Which option fits your hardware and goal?

Option What it actually does AMD Intel Arc DirectX 11 relevance Best use
Microsoft DXC Compiles HLSL, validates DXIL and can emit SPIR-V Works when the operating system and driver accept the resulting DXIL Works when the operating system and driver accept the resulting DXIL Developer source/toolchain route; not a retail-game cache warmer Compiling your own shaders or build artifacts
Intel Precompiled Shaders Downloads and locally caches Intel’s pre-optimized shader files matched to the hardware and driver No Yes, on supported systems and games Consumer stutter mitigation where Intel provides coverage Arc owners preparing supported Steam games
AMD Radeon Shader Cache Driver policy for retaining and reusing compiled shaders Yes No AMD documents applicability to DirectX 9, 10 and 11 applications First AMD troubleshooting and baseline configuration
SCSKiller Enumerates game pipelines and attempts to warm the driver cache ahead of play Published support exists, but behavior is architecture- and game-dependent No published support Documented DirectX 11 path is NVIDIA-focused NVIDIA users who accept its project-specific limits

There is no authoritative, general performance percentage for stutter reduction across AMD and Arc. Results depend on the game, driver version, shader coverage and whether a hitch is really caused by shader compilation.

Best choice for developers: Microsoft DXC

Choose DXC when you own the HLSL source or are responsible for a build pipeline. It is the official Microsoft toolchain for compiling HLSL into DXIL and related formats, rather than a utility for manipulating another developer’s cache.

What DXC outputs

  • DXIL: the intermediate representation used by DirectX Shader Model 6 and newer pipelines. Select the profile that matches the shader stage and minimum feature level you support, such as a vertex or pixel Shader Model 6 profile.
  • SPIR-V: an optional output for Vulkan workflows. A SPIR-V binary is not interchangeable with a DX11 DXBC binary.
  • Validation and libraries: DXC includes validation capabilities and supports shader-library workflows, useful for catching invalid output during a build rather than during a player’s first launch.

A practical DXC build sequence

  1. Download an official DXC build from the Microsoft DirectX Shader Compiler project’s releases and place the compiler in a controlled tools directory. Pin the version in your build environment so a later compiler update does not silently change output.
  2. Confirm that your source, include files and feature assumptions target the API you ship. A Shader Model 6 profile is for a DX12-style DXIL workflow; it is not a conversion switch for an existing DX11 game binary.
  3. Compile each entry point with the profile appropriate to its stage. A representative command is dxc -T ps_6_0 -E MainPS -Fo MainPS.dxil Shaders/MainPS.hlsl; replace the entry point, profile and paths with those used by your project.
  4. Use the compiler’s validation options in continuous integration and treat warnings and validation failures as build errors where practical. Validate on every target GPU family because a file that compiles successfully can still expose driver-specific assumptions at runtime.
  5. Package the resulting artifacts with the application or generate them during your established build step. Test loading, reflection data, root-signature or resource-layout compatibility and fallback behavior on each supported driver.

The command above illustrates the shape of a DXC invocation; it does not make a DirectX 11 retail title use DXIL, nor does it populate a player’s Radeon or Arc cache. A DX11 renderer normally has its own shader format and pipeline creation path, so changing the compiler requires an engine and runtime decision, not just a downloaded executable.

Best consumer option for Intel Arc: Intel Precompiled Shaders

Intel describes Precompiled Shaders as a feature that “automatically downloads pre-optimized shader files from Intel’s cloud storage to your PC.” The files are matched to the Arc hardware and driver and are cached locally for supported Steam games. Intel’s support article, reviewed March 16, 2026, says the feature is disabled by default on supported systems.

Enable and use the feature

  1. Install a current Intel graphics driver and the current Intel Graphics Software package for your Arc card. Reboot after a driver replacement so the graphics services and cache components are loaded together.
  2. Open Intel Graphics Software and locate the Precompiled Shaders setting. The exact menu wording can change with software releases; use the feature’s own help text if your version places it under a gaming or graphics section.
  3. Enable the feature, then allow the application to download its files. Keep the Steam game installed and let the download complete before judging first-run hitching.
  4. Launch the supported game normally. Intel’s files are hardware- and driver-specific, so they are used by the matching Arc configuration rather than copied between unrelated GPUs.
  5. After a major driver update, repeat the check. A new driver can invalidate or replace cached data, and the precompiled package may need to be downloaded again.

Coverage and expectations

Precompiled Shaders is not a universal Arc cache for every DirectX 11 game. Intel publishes support on a game-by-game basis, and unsupported titles will still use their normal runtime pipeline creation. The feature can reduce work during an initial launch when Intel has supplied matching files, but it cannot remove hitches caused by asset streaming, world traversal, pipeline discovery or CPU-side work.

Do not substitute DXC for this feature. DXC needs HLSL source and produces compiler output; Intel’s service supplies consumer-ready, driver-matched data for specific games.

Best baseline for AMD: Radeon Shader Cache

AMD’s documented Radeon Shader Cache setting is the correct first step for an AMD DirectX 11 player. AMD says the default AMD optimized policy applies to DirectX 9, 10 and 11 applications. It lets the Radeon driver retain compiled shader data so later runs can avoid repeating work.

Set the driver policy

  1. Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition and go to the gaming graphics settings. AMD’s interface and labels can move between releases, so search the graphics settings for Shader Cache.
  2. Leave Shader Cache at AMD optimized unless a specific game’s support procedure tells you to test another value. The optimized default is the documented general-purpose choice for DX9–11.
  3. Restart the game after changing the setting. The first run may still compile shaders; compare later runs only after the cache has had a chance to populate.
  4. When troubleshooting, update the Radeon driver through the normal AMD-supported path and retest. A driver replacement can alter cache contents or invalidate them.

AMD’s setting is a policy, not a downloadable library of every game’s pipelines. There is no official AMD equivalent in the supplied documentation to Intel’s game-specific cloud precompiled files. If a particular title continues to hitch, investigate the game’s own shader-precompilation option and its patch notes before attempting third-party automation.

Why SCSKiller is not a universal AMD-and-Arc replacement

SCSKiller’s repository explicitly says, “Intel GPUs aren’t supported yet: I don’t have one to test on.” That is a published support limitation, not evidence that an unofficial workaround will work on Arc. Its DirectX 11 support is described for NVIDIA, and the project’s architecture notes explain that cache warming depends on enumerating the game’s pipelines and driving the relevant vendor APIs.

Even where a GPU is listed as supported, SCSKiller cannot guarantee complete coverage. The project notes that a shader it did not find or record can still compile in-game. A successful prewarm therefore means only that the discovered set was processed; it is not a proof that every scene is hitch-free.

Game updates, driver updates and anti-cheat systems add further limits. Automation that inspects or launches a game may conflict with a title’s terms or anti-cheat expectations. Use only documented, opt-in workflows, never inject code into a protected process, and stop if the publisher disallows the procedure.

Choose by situation

You are building a game or graphics tool

Use DXC in the build pipeline, select profiles that match the API and hardware targets, validate the resulting DXIL, and test on every driver family. Do not describe this as cache warming: the player’s driver still performs runtime work when it creates pipelines that were not shipped or cached.

You own an Intel Arc card and a supported Steam game

Enable Intel Precompiled Shaders, keep Intel Graphics Software and the driver current, and let the download finish before the first performance comparison. If the game is not supported, rely on the title’s own shader-precompile screen and normal driver caching.

You own an AMD card and play a DirectX 11 game

Keep Radeon Shader Cache at AMD optimized, update the Radeon driver when appropriate, and allow at least one complete run through representative areas. Investigate game-specific options before trying a cache-warming utility that was not documented for your GPU.

You are trying to fix a one-time launch hitch

Let the game finish its initial shader or asset preparation, then exit and relaunch. If only the first run is affected, the cache may be working as intended. If the hitch repeats in the same scene, the cause may be traversal, streaming, pipeline discovery or CPU scheduling rather than a missing shader cache entry.

Troubleshooting shader-compilation stutter

Confirm what is actually stalling

  • Note whether the hitch occurs only during the first launch, after a driver update, or every time you enter a particular area.
  • Check the game’s settings for a shader-precompilation or pipeline-cache option and allow it to complete without interrupting the process.
  • Observe whether traversal, texture streaming, shader compilation or CPU saturation coincides with the hitch. A cache tool cannot repair an asset-streaming bottleneck.

After a driver update

Expect cache behavior to change after a major driver installation. Reboot, launch the game once, allow preparation to finish, and retest the same workload. Do not copy cache files from another computer or GPU generation; vendor caches are tied to driver and hardware assumptions.

When a cache appears corrupted

Use the vendor’s documented cache-reset or driver-repair procedure for your installed software version. Avoid deleting arbitrary folders while a game or graphics service is running, and back up configuration files before a cleanup. Afterward, the first launch will normally rebuild data and may stutter temporarily.

When the game still stutters

Update the game, verify its files through the platform, disable conflicting overlays one at a time, and test a repeatable route. If only one title is affected, report the reproduction steps to its developer. If several titles regress after one driver, report the driver version and GPU model to the vendor. There is no safe percentage reduction to expect across games because shader coverage and bottleneck sources differ.

Limits that apply to every approach

  • Format mismatch: DXC’s DXIL and optional SPIR-V outputs are not drop-in replacements for DX11 DXBC or vendor driver-cache records.
  • Incomplete discovery: a prewarm utility can process only the pipelines it finds; an unrecorded permutation may compile during play.
  • Driver dependence: cache formats and invalidation rules can change with driver releases.
  • Game updates: a patch can add shaders or alter pipeline keys, making an older cache incomplete.
  • Security and terms: anti-cheat and publisher rules can restrict automation, inspection or process manipulation.
  • Non-shader causes: asset streaming, traversal, CPU scheduling and shader-library misses can all resemble compilation stutter.

A concise decision checklist

  1. Do you have HLSL source? Use DXC and validate the output for your target API.
  2. Are you an Arc owner with a supported Steam game? Enable Intel Precompiled Shaders and keep the driver current.
  3. Are you an AMD owner running DX11? Leave Radeon Shader Cache at AMD optimized as the baseline.
  4. Is the game unsupported by the vendor feature? Use the game’s own precompile workflow and normal driver cache.
  5. Does a hitch persist after repeated runs? Diagnose streaming and traversal instead of assuming a missing cache entry.
  6. Did a driver or game update precede the regression? Rebuild the cache and retest before changing several settings at once.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can DXC compile a DirectX 11 shader?

DXC is designed for HLSL-to-DXIL Shader Model 6 workflows and can emit SPIR-V. It does not convert a retail game’s DXBC files or write AMD and Intel driver-cache entries. A DX11 engine must use the shader format and compiler path it was built to consume.

Is Intel Precompiled Shaders available for every Arc game?

No. Intel provides the feature only for supported systems and games, with coverage that can change as Intel adds or removes titles. Unsupported games use their normal runtime and driver-cache behavior.

Should AMD users disable Radeon Shader Cache to reduce stutter?

Not as a general measure. AMD documents AMD optimized as the default policy for DirectX 9, 10 and 11 applications. Change it only for a specific, documented troubleshooting reason, then retest from a clean and repeatable state.

Why can stutter remain after a successful precompile?

The precompile may not include every pipeline permutation, and the hitch may come from asset streaming, traversal, CPU work or pipeline discovery. Cache warming addresses only the shader work it actually finds and processes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do driver updates require repeating shader preparation?

Often. A new driver can invalidate or change cache data, and Intel’s hardware- and driver-matched precompiled files may need to be downloaded again. Reboot, allow the game or vendor feature to rebuild data, and then compare performance.
