Fortnite is the best first alternative if you want the battle-royale drop and looting loop with a choice between building and Zero Build. Choose Apex Legends for faster movement and hero abilities, or Call of Duty: Warzone for a military-shooter feel with a Gulag return mechanic. Naraka: Bladepoint, Totally Accurate Battlegrounds, and Fall Guys keep the elimination structure but make much larger changes to combat and tone.
This guide compares those PC games with PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS without treating “best” as a universal ranking. The right choice depends on whether you want grounded gunplay, movement-heavy fights, character abilities, construction, comedy, melee combat, or no shooting at all.
What PUBG sets as the baseline
PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS is the reference point because its match structure is unusually clear. KRAFTON describes 100 players landing on a map, searching buildings and other locations for weapons and equipment, and surviving while the Blue Zone contracts. The last player or team alive wins. The game documents solo, duo, and squad modes; a squad is the player plus three teammates. Vehicles and a training mode are also part of the official overview.
That creates a specific type of battle royale: relatively grounded firearms, deliberate looting, positioning, vehicle rotations, and high consequences for a bad engagement. A useful alternative can preserve the drop-and-survive structure while changing one major ingredient, such as movement speed, abilities, building, weapon realism, or the seriousness of the presentation.

Fortnite: the most adaptable PUBG alternative
Fortnite is the easiest recommendation when you want to keep the broad battle-royale format but decide how much construction belongs in the match. Its standard mode combines shooting with gathering resources and building structures. The separate Zero Build mode removes construction, making fights depend on weapons, cover, movement, and positioning instead.
Why PUBG players may like it
- The drop, scavenging, shrinking-zone, and final-survivor structure remains recognizable.
- Zero Build provides a direct route into Fortnite without learning construction techniques.
- Traditional building is available if you want a higher skill ceiling based on fast defensive and offensive structures.
- Its map and mechanics change regularly, so the experience is less static than a fixed ruleset.
What feels different
Fortnite is more colorful and less gritty than PUBG, and building can make an encounter look nothing like a grounded firearm exchange. Even Zero Build has its own movement, cover, and item economy. GamesRadar’s 2026 coverage emphasizes its active seasonal content and events, but event names and dates are time-sensitive; verify the current season rather than relying on an old guide.
Choose Fortnite when
Start here if you want the largest possible change in tone without giving up battle-royale fundamentals, or if you are unsure whether you prefer building. Select Zero Build first when construction is the reason you have avoided Fortnite; move to the standard ruleset only if you want that additional layer.
Apex Legends: the movement-and-abilities choice
Apex Legends changes PUBG’s deliberate pacing more than any other mainstream shooter on this list. PCGamesN describes it as a fast-moving battle royale in which sliding and other movement techniques shape engagements. Characters, commonly called Legends, bring different abilities, and that roster was described as exceeding 25 characters in the cited guide.
Why it attracts PUBG players
- It still uses squads, map rotations, loot, and a closing combat area.
- Fast traversal and sliding make repositioning an active part of every fight.
- Distinct character abilities give teams complementary roles and create more ways to initiate or escape combat.
- Respawn-oriented team play can make a match feel less final than a purely elimination-focused shooter.
The learning cost
A player moving from PUBG must learn both a faster gunfight rhythm and a character kit. Winning an encounter can depend on timing an ability, combining movement with cover, or coordinating two or three Legends. The speed is a feature for some players and a barrier for those who prefer PUBG’s grounded framing.

Choose Apex when
Pick Apex if the part of PUBG you want to change is the pace. It suits players who enjoy practicing movement, learning a roster, and communicating ability combinations with teammates. It is a less suitable substitute if you specifically want realistic-feeling movement and minimal character powers.

Warzone is the closest alternative for readers who want a modern military-shooter presentation but are willing to accept more systems layered onto the survival loop. PCGamesN’s guide describes a Gulag one-on-one match after a player’s first death; winning can return that player to the ongoing match. The guide also describes cash used for respawns or killstreaks at Buy Stations, along with loadout systems.
How the match flow differs from PUBG
- You loot and fight in the initial battle-royale phase.
- After an eligible first death, you may enter the Gulag instead of leaving immediately.
- A Gulag win returns you to the match, while failure leaves your teammates to continue or buy a return where the rules allow it.
- Cash, Buy Stations, killstreaks, and loadouts add strategic choices that are not part of PUBG’s simpler scavenging baseline.
This means Warzone can feel less punishing after one mistake, but it also has more economy and equipment decisions to track. Maps and playlists rotate. The cited 2026 guide identifies Avalon as having arrived in 2026; that is a date-specific editorial detail, not a promise that it remains in the current rotation.
Choose Warzone when
Choose it for recognizable firearm handling, military styling, and the possibility of returning after an early loss. Before downloading, check the current map, playlist, storage requirement, and account or platform requirements because live-service details change frequently.
Naraka: Bladepoint: a melee-first detour
Naraka: Bladepoint keeps the battle-royale pressure but replaces conventional gunplay with martial-arts combat. GamesRadar describes a free-to-play PC game built around heroes, close-quarters fighting, ranged and melee weapons, parkour, and grappling hooks.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →What makes it distinctive
- Grappling hooks and parkour make vertical traversal central to movement.
- Hero identities affect how a player approaches an engagement.
- Combat emphasizes timing, spacing, and melee exchanges rather than firearm recoil and sightlines.
- The elimination structure remains familiar even though the moment-to-moment combat is not.
Who should try it
Naraka is for a PUBG player who likes the tension of being hunted and the need to rotate through a shrinking battlefield, but no longer wants every encounter decided by rifles and shotguns. It is not a close substitute for realistic shooting. Confirm the current PC client, modes, and regional access on the official game page before committing to it.

Totally Accurate Battlegrounds: physics comedy instead of realism
Totally Accurate Battlegrounds (TABG) is a parody of serious shooters such as PUBG. GamesRadar describes ragdoll-driven physics, comic weapon interactions, and lobbies of up to 60 players. The player count is the guide’s published description and should not be treated as a current independently verified population figure.
What changes
The familiar battle-royale ingredients are used for absurd results. Characters can stumble, launch, or collapse in ways that make precision and realism secondary to unpredictable physics. That makes TABG a poor replacement for PUBG’s grounded tactical atmosphere but a strong side game for a group that wants to laugh at failed plans.
Choose TABG when
Pick it when your priority is a deliberately silly alternative rather than a competitive training substitute. Check its current PC availability and active matchmaking before installing; the cited coverage does not establish a guaranteed current population or playlist schedule.
Fall Guys: the elimination format without firearms
Fall Guys carries the last-contestant-standing idea into obstacle courses. GamesRadar and PCGamesN describe rounds with up to 60 contestants, where players qualify through successive courses until one remains.
Why it belongs on this list
Fall Guys is not a shooter and does not reproduce PUBG’s looting, aiming, or tactical rotations. Its connection is structural: each round removes players, and surviving several rounds produces the same broad tension of reaching a final winner. The tone is light, and failure is usually funny rather than threatening.
Choose Fall Guys when
Choose it for family-friendly or non-shooter competition, quick sessions, and party play. It is the right answer only if “alternative to PUBG” means an alternative to the elimination format, not an alternative to firearm combat.

Less direct diversions worth knowing about
Hunt: Showdown 1896
GamesRadar lists Hunt: Showdown 1896 as an extraction-focused bounty hunt involving monsters and rival players. Its objective is to find and extract a bounty rather than simply outlast every opponent in a shrinking circle. The tension, sound awareness, and risk of losing a run may appeal to PUBG players, but the match goal is fundamentally different.

GamesRadar also includes the Eliminator mode in Forza Horizon 5, where the last driver standing wins a vehicle-based competition. Consider it only if the competitive survival structure matters more to you than the shooter genre.

Compare the practical fit before installing
Gunplay and realism
PUBG is the grounded-survival reference in this comparison. Warzone keeps a military-shooter presentation, while Fortnite is less gritty. Apex is faster and ability-driven. Naraka moves to melee combat, TABG turns shooting into physics comedy, and Fall Guys removes shooting entirely.
Movement and abilities
Apex is the strongest movement shift among the firearm games. Naraka adds parkour and grappling hooks but uses them in a melee-focused system. Fortnite’s movement and construction rules vary by mode. PUBG remains the choice for a more restrained traversal model.
Building
Fortnite is the only listed option with traditional construction as a defining mechanic, and Zero Build is the way to avoid it. None of the other recommendations should be selected for building.
Party size
KRAFTON officially documents solo, duo, and squad play for PUBG, with four players in a squad. The cited coverage does not verify a complete, current party-size matrix for every alternative, so check the live playlist screen before planning a specific group session.
Cost and access
The cited PCGamesN guide labels Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Warzone free-to-play, while GamesRadar describes Naraka: Bladepoint as free-to-play. “Free-to-play” does not guarantee identical regional availability, modes, optional purchases, account requirements, or storage needs. Verify those details in the current official listing for your region.
A simple way to test the right game
- Choose the feature you want to change. Decide whether PUBG’s realism, slow movement, firearm-only combat, lack of comeback mechanics, or serious tone is the problem.
- Select one close match and one radical detour. For example, compare Fortnite Zero Build with Apex, or Warzone with Naraka. This prevents you from judging every game by the same expectation.
- Check the current PC listing. Confirm the supported operating system, launcher, download size, region, age rating, and whether the desired mode is currently active.
- Play enough matches to reach the intended loop. A first tutorial or warm-up does not show how looting, rotations, abilities, or late-round pressure work.
- Reassess the source of frustration. If you dislike building, remain in Zero Build; if you dislike speed, Apex is probably the wrong direction; if you dislike firearm combat, move to Naraka or Fall Guys instead of changing shooters repeatedly.
Bottom line
For most PC players leaving PUBG, start with Fortnite Zero Build if you want the safest structural transition, Apex Legends if you want faster and more ability-driven combat, or Warzone if you want military presentation plus the Gulag’s second chance. Choose Naraka: Bladepoint for melee and mobility, Totally Accurate Battlegrounds for physics comedy, and Fall Guys only when you want elimination competition without shooting. Because live-service maps, playlists, pricing, and regional access change, verify the current official PC details before downloading.
