There is no single like-for-like replacement for Palantir. The clearest publicly traded alternatives give you different kinds of AI-software exposure: Microsoft (MSFT) combines AI with a very broad cloud and software business; Snowflake (SNOW) focuses on data infrastructure, analytics and AI workloads; and C3.ai (AI) offers the most concentrated enterprise-AI software theme of the three. Which is “best” depends on whether you want diversification, a data-platform route to AI adoption, or a focused but higher-risk enterprise-AI position.
Palantir itself remains the reference point for operational software that connects data, analytics, workflows, AI models and deployment across commercial, defense and intelligence environments. The comparisons below use company filings and issuer-reported metrics available through October 2026. They are not a valuation screen or individualized investment advice; prices, multiples, forecasts and suitability must be checked separately before making a decision.
What an alternative to Palantir stock actually means
“Alternative” can mean two different things. An investor may want a company whose products resemble Palantir’s software, or simply another way to obtain exposure to enterprise AI without owning Palantir. Those goals produce different shortlists.
Palantir describes four principal platforms in its FY2025 Form 10-K. Foundry is a data-operations platform for data management, logic, an organizational Ontology, analytics and workflows. Gotham supports defense and intelligence missions. AIP connects third-party large language models to Palantir’s platforms and provides tools for agents and automations. Apollo coordinates software delivery, updates and configurations across customer environments. Together, those products position Palantir as an operational platform rather than only a model provider, database or cloud infrastructure company.
#1 Best Overall
Microsoft, Snowflake and C3.ai overlap with parts of that proposition, but not all of it. Microsoft sells cloud services, software, support, advertising and devices, with AI embedded in a much larger portfolio. Snowflake sells a data platform and ecosystem spanning data engineering, analytics, AI, applications and collaboration across multiple public clouds. C3.ai presents an enterprise-AI platform with industry-specific applications. Similar AI terminology does not make the businesses interchangeable.
Palantir’s operating baseline
Use Palantir’s own reported results as context, not as a promise about future performance. Its Q1 2026 filing reported $1.6 billion in revenue for the three months ended March 31, 2026, compared with $0.9 billion for the same period in 2025. The same filing reported $754 million of operating income and an 87% gross margin for that quarter. Those figures are issuer-reported; adjusted measures were disclosed separately, so GAAP and adjusted numbers should not be mixed.
Palantir reported 1,007 customers as of March 31, 2026, versus 769 a year earlier. In that filing, a customer is an organization with recognized revenue during the trailing twelve-month period, and separately contracted divisions can count separately. That definition is not automatically comparable with the customer measures used by Microsoft, Snowflake or C3.ai.

“Our historical results are not necessarily indicative of the results that may be expected for any period in the future.”
That caution appears in Palantir’s FY2025 Form 10-K and applies to the historical figures above. Strong growth, margins or customer additions in one period do not establish a future return or an attractive share price.
Side-by-side: the three clearest listed alternatives
| Company | Primary role | How concentrated is the AI-software thesis? | Dated company-reported evidence | What the figure does not prove |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Microsoft (MSFT) | Broad cloud, software, productivity, advertising and devices, with AI capabilities distributed across the portfolio | Low relative to Palantir or C3.ai because AI is one component of a very diversified business | The FY2026 Form 10-K search excerpt reported $10.2 billion returned through share repurchases and dividends in fiscal Q4 2026 | Capital returned to shareholders is not a measure of AI product growth, market share or valuation |
| Snowflake (SNOW) | Cloud data platform for data engineering, analytics, AI, applications and collaboration | Medium: the company is centered on data infrastructure and related workloads, but it is not an operational-workflow vendor | $9.00 billion remaining performance obligations, 126% dollar-based net revenue retention and 829 Forbes Global 2000 customers, all as of July 31, 2026 | These definitions and reporting date differ from Palantir’s revenue, customer count and margin measures |
| C3.ai (AI) | Enterprise-AI platform, agentic AI capabilities, industry SaaS applications and generative-AI offerings | High thematic concentration, with correspondingly greater company-specific execution risk | FY2026 Form 10-K filing dated June 24, 2026 (document date April 30, 2026); fiscal Q1 2027 results announcement listed for September 2, 2026 | Product descriptions and announcement dates do not establish customer outcomes, profitability, growth or investment returns |
The table is a map of business exposure, not a ranking. No common, independently sourced scorecard establishes which company has the most AI revenue or the best expected stock performance.
Microsoft: diversified AI and cloud exposure
What you are buying
Microsoft’s FY2026 Form 10-K describes a broad technology company offering cloud-based solutions, software products and support, advertising and devices. AI-related services therefore sit inside a large collection of businesses rather than representing the whole investment case. Cloud infrastructure, enterprise software and productivity tools can all benefit from AI adoption, but shareholders also remain exposed to businesses that are not enterprise-AI software.

Microsoft suits an investor who wants a large, diversified technology company and is comfortable with AI being one part of the thesis. Its breadth can reduce dependence on a single enterprise-AI product line or a narrow group of customers. It also means that a successful Palantir-like operational-software market does not automatically translate into the same percentage impact on Microsoft’s results.
How to interpret the capital-return figure
The available FY2026 Form 10-K search excerpt reported $10.2 billion returned through share repurchases and dividends in fiscal Q4 2026. Treat that as a capital-allocation figure, not evidence of AI revenue, customer growth or superior returns. The underlying filing should be checked directly for context, period definition and any related figures before using it in an investment model.
Main trade-off
Microsoft offers the least concentrated exposure among these alternatives. That can be an advantage for portfolio diversification, but it makes Microsoft a poor choice if your specific objective is a focused bet on enterprise operational-AI software. To evaluate the AI thesis, separate cloud and software growth from other segments and examine how management defines AI-related revenue and costs.
Snowflake: the data-platform route to enterprise AI
What you are buying
Snowflake describes its AI Data Cloud as a platform and ecosystem for data, applications and AI. Its stated scope includes data engineering, analytics, AI, applications and collaboration across multiple public clouds. This is a foundational data and workload position: enterprises need governed, accessible data before many AI applications can deliver reliable results.
Evidence reported for July 31, 2026
- $9.00 billion in remaining performance obligations.
- 126% dollar-based net revenue retention.
- 829 Forbes Global 2000 customers.
All three figures are Snowflake’s own disclosures as of July 31, 2026. Remaining performance obligations describe contracted future revenue, while dollar-based net revenue retention measures expansion or contraction within an existing customer cohort under the company’s definition. Neither is equivalent to Palantir’s quarterly revenue or customer count. The Forbes Global 2000 figure identifies a customer subset and is not a total-customer count.
Why it can be an alternative
Snowflake is relevant if you believe enterprise AI adoption will be driven by secure data access, analytics and applications that run across cloud environments. It provides exposure to the infrastructure layer that many AI projects depend on, rather than trying to replicate Palantir’s complete operational platform.
What it does not replicate
Palantir emphasizes an Ontology, operational workflows, AI-enabled decisions and deployment management through Foundry, AIP, Apollo and Gotham. Snowflake’s positioning is centered on data, workloads and an ecosystem. A company can use Snowflake for data and AI while using another vendor for workflow orchestration, mission applications or deployment controls. Do not describe Snowflake as a direct substitute solely because both companies discuss AI.
Main trade-off
Snowflake offers more focused data-platform exposure than Microsoft, but its investment outcome depends on consumption, customer expansion, competition and execution in a rapidly changing cloud-data market. Review retention, remaining performance obligations, product consumption and cash generation together rather than treating any single metric as a verdict.

C3.ai: the focused enterprise-AI comparison
What you are buying
C3.ai describes itself as an enterprise-AI application software company. Its materials describe an agentic AI platform, industry-specific SaaS applications and generative-AI offerings. Listed application areas include reliability, production scheduling, demand planning, process optimization, inventory optimization and sourcing optimization.
Why it can be an alternative
C3.ai is the most concentrated thematic comparison in this shortlist. An investor seeking a company whose stated identity is enterprise AI software may find the exposure more direct than Microsoft’s diversified model or Snowflake’s data-platform orientation.
Evidence limits
The FY2026 Form 10-K filing page records a filing date of June 24, 2026, with a document date of April 30, 2026. The investor-relations page lists a fiscal Q1 2027 results announcement on September 2, 2026. The available materials here do not provide the quarter’s revenue, margin, cash-flow, customer or guidance figures, so none should be inferred from the product descriptions or announcement date.
Main trade-off
A concentrated theme increases company-specific risk. C3.ai must convert product positioning into repeatable deployments, customer value, durable revenue and healthy cash economics while competing with larger platforms and internal enterprise teams. Focused exposure can produce greater sensitivity to execution surprises than a diversified technology holding.

How to compare operating evidence without creating a false ranking
Match the reporting period
Use the same quarter or fiscal period wherever possible. Palantir’s $1.6 billion revenue figure covers the three months ended March 31, 2026. Snowflake’s $9.00 billion remaining performance obligations and 126% retention figure are as of July 31, 2026. Those dates are not interchangeable. A later date does not make one company’s metric superior; it simply describes a different point in time.
Best Value
Match the definition
Customer counts can include different entities, divisions or cohort rules. Palantir counts an organization with recognized revenue in the trailing twelve-month period and may count separately contracted divisions separately. Snowflake’s 829 figure covers Forbes Global 2000 customers, not every customer. A retention percentage measures existing-customer expansion under the issuer’s methodology, not total customer growth.
Separate GAAP and adjusted measures
Palantir reported GAAP operating income and gross margin while also disclosing adjusted figures. If you compare profitability, label each measure and keep the accounting basis consistent. Do not combine one company’s adjusted margin with another company’s GAAP result.
Look beyond growth
A useful comparison includes revenue growth, gross margin, operating income, free cash flow, stock-based compensation, dilution, customer concentration, retention and guidance. Product breadth and AI branding cannot substitute for evidence that customers renew, expand and generate attractive economics.
Valuation and risk checks the available figures cannot answer
None of the dated figures above establishes that a stock is cheap or expensive. A valuation decision requires a current share price, diluted share count, enterprise value, revenue or cash-flow multiples, growth assumptions and a time horizon. Those inputs change continuously and were not established here.
- Customer concentration: Determine whether a small number of contracts account for a material share of revenue and whether government or commercial demand is cyclical.
- Execution: Check implementation duration, expansion rates, cancellations, support costs and the proportion of revenue that is recurring.
- Competition: Compare the company with cloud providers, data-platform vendors, specialist applications and internal development teams, not only with other stocks using the word AI.
- Dilution: Review stock-based compensation, option exercises and changes in diluted shares when estimating per-share outcomes.
- Regulatory and security exposure: Government, defense, critical-infrastructure and sensitive-data contracts can create compliance obligations, procurement delays and reputational risks.
- Guidance quality: Compare management’s guidance with subsequent filings and identify whether targets are GAAP, adjusted or operational measures.
A practical selection process
- Define the exposure. Decide whether you want diversified AI participation, data infrastructure, focused enterprise applications or Palantir’s integrated operational model.
- Read the latest filing. Confirm the company’s segment definitions, customer count, revenue recognition, margins, cash flow and dilution using the newest annual and quarterly reports.
- Build a common-period table. Place revenue, year-over-year growth, gross margin, operating income, free cash flow, customer or retention metrics and guidance in matching periods. Mark any unavailable cell as “not stated” rather than estimating it.
- Refresh market data. Add the current price, market capitalization, enterprise value and valuation multiples on the same date. A historical operating result cannot tell you what investors are paying today.
- Stress-test the thesis. Model slower customer expansion, lower retention, delayed deployments, higher compute costs, dilution and stronger competition.
- Set a review trigger. Revisit the thesis after earnings, guidance changes, major contract wins or losses, material product changes and significant valuation moves.
Common mistakes when looking for “stocks similar to Palantir”
- Calling Microsoft a pure-play alternative. Its AI exposure is real but distributed across a much broader technology business.
- Treating Snowflake’s retention as Palantir’s customer growth. Retention and customer counts answer different questions and use different definitions.
- Assuming an enterprise-AI label proves execution. C3.ai’s application descriptions explain what it sells, not whether deployments are profitable or durable.
- Ranking companies without a valuation date. A high-growth company can be a poor investment at one price and attractive at another.
- Mixing issuer metrics. Combining a GAAP margin, an adjusted growth rate and a differently defined customer count creates a scorecard that no company actually reports.
- Adding private companies without checking access. A notable AI or data business is not automatically a publicly tradable stock or an accessible investment for every reader.
Bottom line for 2026
Microsoft is the broadest and most diversified route to AI-related cloud and software exposure. Snowflake is the clearest data-platform route, with company-reported performance obligations, retention and enterprise-customer figures that should be read in their own definitions. C3.ai is the most focused enterprise-AI software comparison, but its concentration makes execution risk especially important and the available evidence here does not support a financial ranking.
Palantir remains distinctive because it presents Foundry, AIP, Apollo and Gotham as an integrated family for data operations, AI-enabled workflows, mission applications and deployment. The right alternative therefore depends on which layer you want: diversified technology, data infrastructure or focused enterprise applications. Before buying any of them, refresh current filings, prices, valuation multiples and guidance; the historical figures cited above do not establish future returns.
