PC and Xbox players who want a larger multi-publisher library should examine the Game Pass tier available to them, remembering that some tiers include EA Play rather than replace it. Ubisoft+ Premium is the focused choice for players who primarily want Ubisoft releases on PC or Xbox.

What to check before replacing EA Play
Platform and account ecosystem
A subscription normally follows the platform account that bought it. Must-play games and publisher coverage
Make a short list of games you would play during the next three months, then check each service’s current listing. A large headline catalog is less useful than a smaller service containing your preferred franchises. Ubisoft+ is intentionally publisher-focused. PlayStation Plus and Game Pass are broader, but neither promises a permanent copy of every catalog title.
Download versus streaming
Downloads use local storage and your console or PC hardware but remain playable only while the title and membership entitlement are valid. Streaming avoids a large download and can be useful on a supported PC or console, yet depends on server availability, latency and a stable connection. What happens when a title leaves
Catalog membership is a time-limited license, not ownership. When a game leaves, you can lose access even if it remains installed. Sony also notes that access to associated catalog DLC is lost when the subscription expires or the base game is no longer available through the service. Buy a game separately if you need permanent access, continued play after cancellation or reliable access to add-on content.

How access works
Eligible games can be downloaded to a PS4 or PS5 while the membership is active and the title remains in the catalog. Install size, free storage, regional availability and age restrictions still apply. A game can disappear from the catalog even if it was previously downloaded. Save files do not turn a catalog license into ownership; if the entitlement ends, you need to renew or purchase the game to continue.
Important catalog qualification
Sony says PS4 games will be added only intermittently from January 2026. That makes Extra more attractive to players focused on the existing PS4/PS5 catalog than to someone expecting a steady stream of new PS4 additions. Check the current additions and departure dates before choosing an annual term.

What Premium adds
Premium includes Essential and Extra benefits, then adds the ability to download or stream eligible Game Catalog and Classics Catalog titles plus selected game trials. Sony lists streaming on PS4, PS5 and PC for supported games. This makes Premium the most flexible choice in this set for a PlayStation owner who wants both local downloads and occasional cloud play.
Connection requirements and limits
Sony lists a minimum connection of 5 Mbps and 15 Mbps for 1080p streaming. Those figures describe the stated network threshold, not a promise of low latency or perfect image quality. Wi-Fi congestion, household traffic, data caps and distance to the streaming server can still affect play. Use a wired connection where practical and test the service during the cancellation window before committing to a longer billing interval.
Streaming selection is limited to eligible titles. A game included in Extra is not automatically streamable, and classics or trials have their own availability rules. Read the individual game page rather than choosing Premium solely because a title appears in the broader catalog.

What the plan includes
Ubisoft’s US plan page advertises more than 145 PC games, new releases on day one and early access when available, monthly rewards, discounts and Xbox play. Access is aimed at someone who wants a deep Ubisoft library, not a general replacement with equivalent coverage of EA, Sony or other publishers.

Included editions differ by game. Ubisoft warns that a premium or special edition shown in the catalog may not include every premium item or DLC associated with that game. Before subscribing, open the game’s entitlement details and identify the exact edition, expansions and bonuses included. If a particular expansion is the reason you are subscribing, confirm it separately rather than relying on the edition name.
Billing choice
The US page displayed $15 per month or $179.99 per year on October 13, 2026. The annual option is a recurring commitment, so it makes sense only when the catalog contains enough planned play time to justify keeping the membership beyond a single release. Catalog size is a vendor claim and should not be treated as an independent market count.
Best broad option for PC and Xbox: Xbox Game Pass
Ultimate
Ultimate covers Xbox and PC benefits and includes EA Play on both platforms, according to EA’s support information. It is therefore an expansion path for a player who wants EA games plus a wider catalog, not a way to avoid EA content. Review the current Game Pass catalog and the EA Play catalog separately because inclusion, platform availability and expiry dates can differ.
PC Game Pass
PC Game Pass includes EA Play on Windows through the EA app. You will need the EA app and the account-linking process required for the game. PC Game Pass does not provide console access, so it is the relevant lower-scope choice only when your play is on Windows.

Core and Standard
EA’s support page says Core and Standard do not include EA Play. If EA access is a requirement, do not select one of those tiers based only on the Game Pass name. Check the plan’s current benefits at checkout because tier names, catalogs and prices can change.
Online play and launcher boundaries
On Xbox, multiplayer access can depend on the Game Pass tier as well as the game. On PC, a Game Pass installation may launch through the Xbox app, the EA app or another supported launcher. Keep enough disk space for the local installation and complete account linking before assuming a game is ready to play.
When staying with EA Play is the better choice
Switching is not automatically an upgrade. Standalone EA Play remains sensible when your play is concentrated on selected EA games and you do not need a larger catalog. EA defines it as a gaming membership that provides access to some EA games plus member perks and benefits. The US Xbox page displayed $5.99 per month on October 13, 2026; that is a dated regional example, not a universal price.
EA Play Pro is separate from EA Play. It is available through the EA app and is not included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass. A player seeking Pro’s separate entitlement should compare that plan directly rather than assuming a Game Pass subscription transfers it.
What happens when you change plans
Existing Xbox EA Play time
EA says existing Xbox EA Play is automatically canceled when you join Ultimate. Remaining time is rounded up and converted to Ultimate time at a 3:1 ratio. For example, three months of remaining Xbox EA Play would convert to one month of Ultimate time after the stated rounding rule is applied. Check the account’s displayed conversion before confirming because the result is tied to the account and current terms.

Existing PC EA Play time
Remaining PC EA Play time does not convert when you join Ultimate or PC Game Pass. EA Play Pro time cannot be transferred to Xbox. Plan the cancellation date and use any remaining PC entitlement before changing services if avoiding overlap matters to you.
Saved data and purchases
Switching memberships does not erase locally stored saves, but access to a game can end when the old entitlement expires or the title leaves. Separately purchased games and add-ons follow their own licenses. Before canceling, record your account details, back up saves where the platform supports it and note which DLC belongs to a catalog copy.

Use the effective play cost
Compare the recurring fee with the number of months you expect to play, not just the catalog count. A monthly plan is useful for sampling a new release or finishing a short backlog. An annual plan can reduce the average monthly charge but increases the risk of paying for months in which you do not use the service. Calculate the break-even point against buying the games you would actually play.

Account for missing extras
Include required online multiplayer, separate launchers, storage upgrades, paid DLC and any game that is leaving soon. A cheaper subscription can cost more if it forces you to buy a required expansion or a second service. Conversely, paying for a premium tier solely for streaming is poor value if your connection or preferred games do not support it.

A practical selection process
- List your hardware. Separate PS4/PS5, Xbox, Windows PC and any device you want to use for streaming.
- Mark must-play games. Write down specific titles and expansions, then verify each game’s current service listing and platform version.
- Choose download or streaming. Select a download-first service if you have adequate storage and want predictable latency; consider Premium streaming only for eligible games and a connection that meets the stated thresholds.
- Check multiplayer. Confirm whether your console account needs an additional online-multiplayer benefit.
- Inspect editions. Read the entitlement details for DLC, season passes, premium cosmetics and early-access rights.
- Compare the billing term. Start monthly when testing a service or when a catalog is changing quickly; use annual billing only when your planned usage supports it.
- Review exit conditions. Note cancellation timing, catalog departure dates, conversion rules and what happens to installed games and DLC.
- Subscribe through the correct account. Use the account that owns your saves and is linked to the required launcher, then test one intended game before buying a longer term.
Common mistakes and fixes
- Choosing Game Pass Core or Standard for EA access: EA says those tiers do not include EA Play. Move to a qualifying tier or retain standalone EA Play.
- Assuming Game Pass replaces EA Play: Ultimate and PC Game Pass include EA Play, so inspect the combined libraries rather than treating them as mutually exclusive.
- Expecting every Premium game to stream: Streaming is limited to selected titles. Check the cloud-play indicator on each game.
- Confusing a catalog license with ownership: Purchase a game separately if you need uninterrupted access after cancellation or removal.
- Overlooking DLC exclusions: Verify the exact Ubisoft edition and PlayStation catalog-DLC status before starting a long playthrough.
- Ignoring the launcher: PC Game Pass EA titles require the EA app and account connection. Install and link those components before troubleshooting the game itself.
- Canceling without checking conversion: Xbox EA Play time converts under EA’s 3:1 rule when joining Ultimate, while PC time does not. Review the account result first.
