Battlefield 6 is the closest mainstream replacement for Call of Duty if you want a polished package that combines a campaign, squad play, vehicles and large destructive maps. Choose Insurgency: Sandstorm for more grounded infantry combat, Rainbow Six Siege for deliberate round-based tactics, Squad for demanding PC milsim teamwork, Hell Let Loose for World War II combined arms, or Metro Exodus for a solo military-adjacent story.

The right choice depends less on brand loyalty than on the part of Call of Duty you value: fast matchmaking, a campaign, lethal gunplay, coordinated objectives, large battles or playing alone.

At a glance: which Call of Duty alternative fits you?

Game Best for What changes from Call of Duty Platforms listed in the cited sources
Battlefield 6 Mainstream premium military FPS Squad warfare, vehicles, destruction, large maps and a campaign PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S
Insurgency: Sandstorm Grounded infantry combat and co-op More lethal weapons, slower movement and objective-focused rounds PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One/Series
Rainbow Six Siege Round-based tactical PvP Preparation, operator abilities, destructible angles and one-life pressure PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S
Squad Large-team PC milsim Communication, logistics, vehicles and slower coordinated assaults PC
Hell Let Loose Historical combined-arms warfare World War II settings, role-based squads, tanks and artillery PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S
Metro Exodus Single-player exploration and stealth A story-led journey through a post-nuclear world instead of competitive multiplayer PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S

This is not a ranking of technical quality. These games target different definitions of a “premium military shooter.” Battlefield 6 is the broadest substitute; the others are better when you want a specific change in pace, realism, scale or mode mix.

What makes a good Call of Duty substitute?

Call of Duty covers several experiences under one name: a cinematic campaign, quick arcade-style multiplayer, seasonal progression, close infantry fights and, in some entries, cooperative or large-scale modes. No alternative duplicates every part. Instead, match the feature you miss most.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Scale and battlefield control

Insurgency: Sandstorm concentrates on infantry and relatively tight objectives. Battlefield 6 expands the fight with vehicles, destructible environments and larger formations. Squad and Hell Let Loose go further toward simulation, where transport, artillery, command decisions and resupply can determine whether an attack succeeds.

Pacing and realism

Players asking for something “more realistic than COD” usually mean shorter time-to-kill, less sliding and jumping, stronger sound and positioning cues, or a greater penalty for ignoring teammates. Insurgency provides that without requiring a full milsim commitment. Siege makes information and preparation more important than aim alone. Squad is the most communication-dependent option here, while Battlefield 6 remains the most immediately familiar to an arcade-FPS player.

Solo, co-op or competitive play

Battlefield 6 and Metro Exodus are the clear choices if a campaign matters. Insurgency supports both objective PvP and intense PvE co-op. Siege is built around attacker-versus-defender rounds. Squad and Hell Let Loose are primarily large multiplayer battles, so they suit players ready to spend a match coordinating with a team.

Battlefield 6: the closest mainstream premium substitute

Choose Battlefield 6 when you want the nearest overall replacement for Call of Duty without giving up a polished, big-budget presentation. Electronic Arts describes the game with “Tactical destruction. Squad-based gameplay. A new standard of FPS combat. And the return of a global-scale Campaign.” Its official page also promotes large-scale multiplayer and a free-to-play REDSEC mode. See the official Battlefield page for the current product and mode information.

Why it fits

  • Campaign plus multiplayer: You can move between a story-driven experience and squad-based online battles rather than buying a multiplayer-only substitute.
  • Combined-arms identity: Vehicles and environmental destruction create fights that are broader than Call of Duty’s usual infantry lanes.
  • Familiar premium structure: The gunplay and matchmaking format are easier for a Call of Duty player to understand than a full simulation.
  • Large-scale option: EA’s current page emphasizes global-scale battles and the return of a campaign.

What feels different

Battlefield’s maps and vehicles can make an individual gunfight feel less controllable. A tank, helicopter or collapsing structure may change the route you planned. Squad positioning matters, but the battlefield is less predictable than a compact three-lane map. If you want every engagement to be an immediate close-quarters duel, Insurgency or Siege will feel more focused.

Platform and availability notes

The supplied current listing identifies PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. It does not establish last-generation console support, pricing, edition contents or cross-progression, so verify those details on the official page and the storefront for your platform before purchasing. The REDSEC promotion is a mode announcement, not a promise about population, queue times or future availability.

Insurgency: Sandstorm: the best grounded infantry option

Insurgency: Sandstorm is the strongest pick if your priority is lethal, close-quarters infantry combat with both cooperative and competitive modes. Focus Entertainment calls it “The acclaimed team-based tactical FPS” and lists four PvP modes, three PvE modes, 14 maps and day/night play on its official Insurgency: Sandstorm page.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why it feels more realistic than COD

  • Higher consequence gunfights: Positioning, cover and identifying targets matter because you cannot rely on long movement chains to escape every mistake.
  • Infantry-first design: The action stays close to streets, compounds and objective areas rather than revolving around a constant stream of vehicles.
  • Sound and angles: Footsteps, muzzle fire and sight lines provide information that rewards patience.
  • Team objectives: Winning requires capturing or defending objectives, not simply accumulating eliminations.

Modes and maps

Focus lists four PvP and three PvE modes across 14 maps, with day and night variants. That combination gives you a clearer choice of activity than a game that only offers competitive matchmaking: play against people when you want pressure, or use PvE co-op to learn routes, weapons and callouts with friends.

Trade-offs for a COD player

Movement is less forgiving, and rushing into an objective can end a life quickly. You may need to check corners, conserve ammunition and follow the squad instead of chasing a personal streak. The game is still accessible as a team-based FPS, but its rhythm is grounded rather than arcade-like. If you want a campaign, this is not the right substitute; its documented strengths are PvP and PvE modes rather than a traditional solo story.

Platforms

The cited publisher information and comparison coverage list PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles. Edition-specific features and current performance can vary by platform, so use the publisher page and your console storefront for the version you intend to play.

Rainbow Six Siege: the best tactical, round-based alternative

Rainbow Six Siege is the choice for players who want each round to feel like a problem to solve. The current GamesRadar+ comparison lists PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One, and describes attacker-versus-defender objective rounds supported by continuing free-map and downloadable-content updates. Read the GamesRadar+ Call of Duty alternatives guide for that platform and format overview.

How the match structure changes the game

One team attacks while the other defends. Before and during the round, players gather information, reinforce or breach positions, choose angles and coordinate operator abilities. The result is slower at the start than a Call of Duty match, but a single successful breach or flank can decide the round.

Who should choose Siege

  • Choose it if you enjoy learning maps, studying sight lines and making plans before firing.
  • Choose it if you prefer short, high-pressure rounds to continuous respawn action.
  • Choose it if you have friends who will communicate; coordinated information is a major advantage.
  • Avoid it if you want a traditional campaign or large vehicle battles.

Adjustment from Call of Duty

Siege rewards restraint. Sprinting through a doorway without checking for a trap, camera or defender angle can cost the round. Operators add a layer of abilities that does not map neatly to standard loadouts, so expect a learning period even if you are already accurate with an assault rifle.

Squad: the best PC milsim step-up

Squad is for a Call of Duty player who wants to move decisively toward simulation. GamesRadar describes it as a Project Reality-inspired PC milsim with large conflicts and vehicles such as trucks, artillery, boats and helicopters. Its overview appears in the GamesRadar+ guide to games like Battlefield.

What you do differently

Squad is not simply Call of Duty with bigger maps. Players communicate over voice, build and defend forward positions, transport teammates, manage ammunition and coordinate attacks across a broad battlefield. A rifleman who stays with the squad can be more useful than a highly skilled player operating alone.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why the scale matters

Large conflicts create meaningful roles for infantry, drivers, medics and vehicle crews. Trucks move units, artillery shapes approaches, boats open routes and helicopters can reposition a force. Those systems make the battle feel like a connected operation rather than a sequence of isolated firefights.

Who should avoid it

Do not choose Squad if you want instant solo matchmaking, constant action or a forgiving learning curve. The game is PC-only in the cited coverage, and its value depends heavily on servers, leaders and teammates who communicate. Expect longer periods of movement, observation and planning between engagements.

Hell Let Loose: the best historical combined-arms alternative

Hell Let Loose translates the large-team formula into World War II. GamesRadar lists PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, and frames it as a hardcore Battlefield 1942-style experience set across European and North African theaters, with tanks, artillery and role-based classes. Its platform and setting overview is included in the GamesRadar+ Battlefield alternatives guide.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

Why it stands apart

  • Historical setting: Weapons, uniforms, maps and objectives are rooted in World War II rather than modern special operations.
  • Combined arms: Tanks and artillery support infantry, while infantry controls terrain and objectives.
  • Role-based squads: Your class affects what the squad can accomplish, so choosing a role is a team decision rather than only a personal loadout preference.
  • Harder pacing: Sight lines are longer and deaths can seem sudden until you learn how to read terrain and movement.

Best fit

Pick Hell Let Loose if you want the spectacle and teamwork of a large military FPS but do not need modern weapons or a campaign. It is a poor fit for someone seeking a fast, contemporary arena shooter; it asks you to respect cover, concealment and the chain of objectives.

Metro Exodus: the best single-player change of pace

Metro Exodus is the alternative for readers who want to leave competitive multiplayer altogether. GamesRadar lists PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, and describes a single-player story focused on exploration and stealth after a nuclear war. Its listing appears in the GamesRadar+ Call of Duty alternatives guide.

What you get

The game combines firearms with exploration, scavenging and stealth across a story-led journey. Encounters are shaped by the environment and by whether you choose to avoid or confront threats. That makes it military-adjacent rather than a direct multiplayer replacement.

When it is the right recommendation

Choose Metro Exodus when your real complaint about Call of Duty is the pressure to compete online, or when you want a campaign with more exploration than a linear military blockbuster. Do not choose it if your requirement is squad matchmaking, ranked rounds or a large-scale war sandbox.

Comparison by scale, realism, modes and commitment

Game Battlefield scale Realism and pacing Mode mix Social commitment
Battlefield 6 Large maps, squads, vehicles and destruction Arcade-friendly premium action Campaign and multiplayer; official page also promotes REDSEC Moderate; squads help but casual play remains possible
Insurgency: Sandstorm Close infantry objectives Grounded, lethal and faster than a full milsim Four PvP modes and three PvE modes across 14 maps, according to Focus Moderate; co-op lowers the barrier to playing with friends
Rainbow Six Siege Compact objective sites Deliberate preparation and high round pressure Attacker-versus-defender objective rounds High for coordinated teams; individual mistakes can decide a round
Squad Very large conflicts with transport and support vehicles Most demanding milsim pacing in this list Primarily large multiplayer battles Very high; voice communication and role discipline matter
Hell Let Loose Large historical battlefields Hardcore combined-arms pacing Large multiplayer battles with role-based classes High; squad and command coordination shape the match
Metro Exodus Exploration spaces rather than team battlefields Stealth and survival-oriented story pacing Single-player campaign None; designed for solo play

Which game should you buy for your specific goal?

“I want the closest COD replacement on PS5 or Xbox.”

Start with Battlefield 6 for the broadest premium package, provided your console is PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S. Choose Insurgency: Sandstorm instead if you care more about grounded infantry gunplay than campaign presentation and large vehicle battles. Siege is the better choice when you specifically want short competitive rounds and are willing to learn operators and maps.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

“I want a tactical shooter with a campaign.”

Battlefield 6 is the direct fit because EA’s current official description explicitly includes the return of a global-scale campaign alongside squad-based multiplayer. Metro Exodus also provides a campaign, but its focus is exploration and stealth in a post-nuclear setting, not conventional squad warfare.

  • What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.

“I want a co-op military shooter.”

Insurgency: Sandstorm is the clearest match: Focus lists three PvE modes and intense co-op alongside four PvP modes. It lets a group practice objective play against AI or move into competitive matches without changing games. Squad and Hell Let Loose are multiplayer teamwork experiences, but their documented formats are large battles rather than a dedicated co-op campaign.

“I want the most realistic option.”

For the strongest simulation commitment, choose Squad on PC. For a more approachable step toward realism, choose Insurgency: Sandstorm. Hell Let Loose occupies the large-scale historical branch of that spectrum. “Realistic” is not one setting: Squad emphasizes communication and logistics, Insurgency emphasizes lethal infantry engagements, and Hell Let Loose emphasizes historical combined arms.

“I want a large-scale military FPS.”

Battlefield 6 is the easiest entry because its premium presentation, vehicles and destruction are familiar to mainstream FPS players. Squad offers a deeper PC milsim structure, while Hell Let Loose delivers a comparable scale through World War II roles, tanks and artillery.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How to transition from Call of Duty without bouncing off

  1. Set expectations before your first match. Decide whether you are seeking speed, realism, teamwork, a campaign or solo exploration. Picking by that goal prevents judging a milsim for not behaving like an arcade shooter.
  2. Learn one role or operator first. In Insurgency, begin with a straightforward rifle role. In Siege, learn one attacker and one defender. In Squad or Hell Let Loose, follow the squad leader and understand your class before switching roles.
  3. Use cover and information before movement. Stop sprinting into every objective. Listen, check angles, watch likely approaches and move when you know what problem you are solving.
  4. Communicate briefly. Call out direction, room, vehicle or objective instead of narrating every action. Clear information is more useful than constant voice traffic.
  5. Accept slower matches. Squad and Hell Let Loose may spend more time positioning, transporting or preparing than Call of Duty. That setup is part of the game’s intended tension.
  6. Start with the forgiving mode. Use Insurgency’s PvE options to learn maps, or play Battlefield 6 before committing to Siege or Squad. A lower-pressure first session teaches the systems without making every mistake decisive.

Platform and purchase checks

Platform support differs sharply. Battlefield 6 is listed for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S; Insurgency: Sandstorm is listed for PC, PlayStation 4/5 and Xbox One/Series; Squad is PC-only in the cited coverage; Hell Let Loose is listed for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S; Siege spans PC and both current- and last-generation console families; and Metro Exodus is listed for PC, PlayStation 4/5 and Xbox One/Series.

Those lists identify the platforms covered by the cited pages, not a guarantee of identical performance, input options, edition contents or cross-progression. Check the official product page and the storefront for your exact region and platform. Prices, bundles, seasonal content and online-service requirements change, and the available evidence does not establish a current universal price or a permanent discount for any of these games.

Final recommendation

Buy Battlefield 6 if you want one premium military FPS that most closely covers campaign, squad play, vehicles and large battles. Buy Insurgency: Sandstorm if “more realistic than COD” means lethal infantry combat with a useful co-op option. Choose Rainbow Six Siege for deliberate round-based tactics, Squad for the deepest PC milsim teamwork, Hell Let Loose for historical combined arms, and Metro Exodus when what you really want is a solo story instead of another competitive shooter.
