For most teams, LSEG Workspace AI Search is the closest direct alternative to Bloomberg ASKB. It combines natural-language questions with market data, filings, Reuters News, screening, comparisons, summaries, charts, tables and cited answers. AlphaSense is the better fit when the priority is broad document discovery, internal knowledge and deep-research workflows. S&P Capital IQ Pro is strongest for AI-assisted document extraction and sector intelligence, particularly energy and commodities.

The right choice depends less on the word “AI” than on the evidence your analysts must search, the audit trail they need, and the systems in which they deliver work. The comparison below separates those decisions and identifies what is and is not established publicly about each service.

What Bloomberg ASKB sets as the baseline

Bloomberg describes ASKB as a conversational AI interface inside existing Terminal workflows. It is designed to answer questions using Bloomberg data, documents, news, research and analytics rather than relying on an ungrounded general-purpose chatbot. Bloomberg says responses include transparent attribution and direct links to the underlying source documents, so an analyst can inspect the evidence behind an answer.

That combination creates four requirements for any credible alternative:

  • Relevant financial content: the system must search the kinds of market data, filings, news, research and transcripts the team actually uses.
  • Traceability: answers need citations or source links that let a reviewer verify a statement.
  • Multi-step conversation: a follow-up question should refine the same analysis instead of forcing the user to start over.
  • Workflow fit: results should move into the tools where analysts screen securities, build models, prepare presentations or collaborate.

Bloomberg’s current product material says its AI-powered summaries cover stories from more than 30,000 sources. A Bloomberg News press statement from November 2025 says the newsroom produces more than 5,000 stories each day. Bloomberg also states that purpose-specific AI solutions have been developed since 2009. The Bloomberg financial-news page described ASKB as being in beta when it was captured, so readers should confirm the current release status and entitlements with their account team.

These figures describe Bloomberg’s content operation, not a head-to-head accuracy or speed test. No public source reviewed for this comparison supplies a comparable pricing schedule, latency study, independent accuracy benchmark or complete country-by-country availability matrix for ASKB and the alternatives.

LSEG Workspace AI Search: the closest Bloomberg ASKB substitute

What it combines

LSEG announced Workspace AI Search in July 2026 as a natural-language search and answer layer for financial professionals. It connects LSEG market data and filings with Reuters News, deals, aftermarket research and LSEG analytics. That mix most closely mirrors the way a Terminal user moves between a question, primary documents, news context and quantitative analysis.

The service is designed to return fast, verifiable answers with transparent citations. Users can screen markets, compare companies or datasets, summarize documents, analyze trends, and produce charts and tables. Follow-up questions preserve the conversational context, allowing an analyst to narrow a universe, change a date range or ask for a different comparison without rebuilding the request.

Who should choose it

  • Research desks that already rely on Reuters News and want cited answers alongside market data.
  • Analysts who alternate between filings, company comparisons and screening.
  • Teams that want the same service in a desktop workspace and Microsoft Teams.
  • Organizations planning a Microsoft 365 Copilot deployment and willing to validate the stated future integration when it becomes available.

Where it differs from Bloomberg

LSEG’s announcement identifies the connected content and functions above, but it does not publish a complete entitlement matrix, public price list, latency measurement or independent accuracy benchmark. A Bloomberg user should therefore test equivalent prompts against the specific LSEG Workspace package being considered. Confirm whether the required exchanges, filings, aftermarket research and regional news rights are included in the contract.

AlphaSense: strongest for research, diligence and internal knowledge

Document scale and search

AlphaSense presents a unified workflow that spans initial exploration, deep diligence, ongoing monitoring, generative search, deep research, enterprise intelligence, financial data and workflow agents. Its product page states that its library contains more than 500 million premium documents. The stated scope is broader than a conventional news terminal: it is intended to bring external research and an organization’s own knowledge into one search experience.

Generative Search is described as reasoning across qualitative insights, structured financial data and internal knowledge. That is valuable when the answer is distributed across earnings materials, broker research, industry reports, prior internal work and numerical company information rather than contained in one news story.

Deep Research and deliverables

AlphaSense says its Deep Research agents produce comprehensive research outputs and investment-grade briefings. Workflow agents and monitoring are aimed at recurring tasks such as tracking a company, theme or competitor over time. PowerPoint and Excel add-ins support the final deliverables, reducing the need to copy findings manually into presentation and spreadsheet workflows.

Best-fit users

  • Investment banking: broad company, industry and transaction diligence with presentation-ready output.
  • Private equity: commercial diligence that combines external sources with internal knowledge.
  • Asset management: monitoring and thesis research across a large document universe.
  • Corporate strategy: competitor, market and executive research that must include proprietary company material.

AlphaSense is not presented in the cited material as a like-for-like replacement for every real-time terminal function. Before switching, verify the market-data fields, exchange coverage, portfolio tools and quantitative calculations your desk requires. Its strongest documented advantage is research breadth and knowledge integration.

S&P Capital IQ Pro: document intelligence and sector depth

AI extraction from reports and articles

S&P Global’s Capital IQ Pro page highlights AI-powered Document Intelligence that extracts insights from thousands of articles and reports. This addresses a common fundamental-research problem: finding a specific metric, statement or risk factor inside a large set of documents without reading every item line by line.

Energy and commodities coverage

The same page highlights proprietary S&P Global Energy news and research covering the global energy and commodities value chain. Access is provided through S&P Global Market Intelligence. That emphasis makes Capital IQ Pro especially relevant to analysts who need sector-specific intelligence in addition to company filings and financial information.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Best-fit users

  • Fundamental analysts extracting comparable facts from filings, reports and transcripts.
  • Corporate-finance teams that need company and transaction intelligence in a structured research environment.
  • Energy, metals and commodities researchers who value proprietary sector news and research.

The cited product material emphasizes extraction and sector intelligence rather than a detailed description of a general conversational assistant with Bloomberg-style follow-up behavior. Ask for a demonstration using your own documents and confirm which conversational, citation and export features are included in the licensed edition.

Choose by the evidence your team needs

If Reuters News and cited market answers are central

Start with LSEG Workspace AI Search. Its stated combination of Reuters News, LSEG market data, filings and analytics maps directly to a workflow in which an analyst asks a question, checks the cited evidence, screens a universe and builds a comparison. Validate the exact regional and exchange entitlements before signing.

If the hard part is finding information across millions of documents

Evaluate AlphaSense first. The stated 500-million-plus premium-document library, generative search and internal-knowledge integration address discovery and synthesis across heterogeneous sources. Test whether your organization’s repositories can be connected under the required security and retention controls, and whether the PowerPoint and Excel add-ins match your templates.

If sector reports and energy or commodities intelligence dominate

Put S&P Capital IQ Pro on the shortlist. Document Intelligence and proprietary S&P Global Energy research are its clearest documented differentiators. Ask the vendor to demonstrate extraction on the filings, reports and sector questions that drive your investment process.

If the goal is to remain inside an existing Terminal workflow

Compare the cost and switching friction of LSEG Workspace AI Search with retaining Bloomberg ASKB. LSEG is the closest functional substitute described in the available material, but “closest” does not mean identical coverage, entitlements or user experience. Run a controlled pilot rather than assuming that one platform’s citation or screening behavior transfers to another.

How the alternatives compare on critical capabilities

Content breadth

Bloomberg’s baseline is Bloomberg data, documents, news, research and analytics, with summaries spanning more than 30,000 sources. LSEG explicitly lists market data, filings, Reuters News, deals, aftermarket research and its analytics. AlphaSense emphasizes a 500-million-plus premium-document library, qualitative insights, structured financial data and internal knowledge. Capital IQ Pro emphasizes thousands of articles and reports plus proprietary energy and commodities research.

Those descriptions are not interchangeable counts. “Sources,” “documents,” “articles” and “reports” measure different things, and none of the cited pages supplies a normalized overlap study. For a procurement decision, list the exact publishers, filing jurisdictions, transcript providers, broker relationships and internal repositories your analysts use, then verify each item in writing.

Answer traceability

Bloomberg says ASKB provides transparent attribution and direct links to source documents. LSEG says Workspace AI Search returns transparent citations. AlphaSense and Capital IQ Pro describe research, extraction and agent capabilities in the cited material, but the pages reviewed do not provide an equivalent, detailed citation specification. Request examples showing how a citation is displayed, whether it opens the licensed source, and whether the answer and source version can be retained for an audit.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Conversational depth

LSEG explicitly supports follow-up questions that refine an analysis without restarting. Bloomberg positions ASKB as conversational inside Terminal workflows. AlphaSense describes Generative Search, Deep Research agents and workflow agents, which suggests multi-step research processes rather than only single-turn retrieval. The Capital IQ Pro material establishes AI extraction but does not detail the same follow-up interaction model. A pilot should include chained questions, corrections and requests to show the calculation or source passage behind an answer.

Analytics and outputs

LSEG lists screening, company and dataset comparisons, trend analysis, charts and tables. AlphaSense supports research outputs and names PowerPoint and Excel add-ins. Bloomberg’s baseline includes analytics and source-linked answers. Capital IQ Pro’s documented emphasis is extracting insights from documents and sector research. If your workflow requires calculations, screeners, chart formatting or model-ready exports, test the exact fields and file formats rather than relying on marketing descriptions.

Integration and collaboration

LSEG states availability in LSEG Workspace and LSEG Workspace in Microsoft Teams, with Microsoft 365 Copilot availability planned. AlphaSense identifies PowerPoint and Excel add-ins and integration with internal knowledge. Bloomberg is designed to complement Terminal workflows. Capital IQ Pro is accessed through S&P Global Market Intelligence subscriptions. “Planned” Copilot availability is not the same as current availability; obtain a date and licensing requirement before treating it as a production dependency.

A practical evaluation plan before you replace a terminal

Use the same evidence set and prompts for every finalist. This produces a useful decision even though the vendors do not publish comparable public benchmarks.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Define the required corpus. List the exchanges, countries, filings, news publishers, transcripts, broker research, sector reports and internal repositories that must be searchable. Mark each item as mandatory or optional.
  2. Create a balanced prompt set. Include a current-news question, a filing question, a multi-company comparison, a trend question, a screening request, a document summary and a request that combines an external source with an internal document.
  3. Require evidence with every answer. Record whether the system supplies a citation or direct source link, whether the link opens the licensed document, and whether the cited passage actually supports the conclusion.
  4. Test follow-ups. Ask the system to change the period, add a peer, explain an outlier and revise the conclusion after supplying a correction. Note whether context is preserved and whether the answer clearly distinguishes facts from interpretation.
  5. Check quantitative behavior. Repeat a screening or comparison with a known set of securities. Verify dates, currencies, units, corporate-action treatment and the source of each value. Do not treat a fluent answer as proof that a calculation is correct.
  6. Test deliverables. Export a chart, table, spreadsheet or presentation using the team’s normal template. Check formatting, source retention, versioning and whether a reviewer can reproduce the result.
  7. Measure operational fit. Have representative users perform the same tasks in the desktop workspace, Microsoft Teams, Excel or PowerPoint where applicable. Record time to a usable answer, not just time to the first response.
  8. Review governance. Ask how prompts, uploaded documents, generated answers and citations are retained; which administrators can access them; and how the service handles confidential internal material. These controls are contract and configuration questions, so obtain the current terms from each vendor.
  9. Score the pilot. Weight content coverage, citation quality, follow-up behavior, analytical correctness, integration and governance according to the desk’s priorities. Keep a written record of failed prompts and missing entitlements.

Example questions for a controlled pilot

Use questions that expose evidence quality rather than generic demonstrations. For example:

  • “Summarize the latest filing’s changes in revenue guidance, list the cited sections and compare the change with the prior filing.”
  • “Screen the specified market for companies meeting the stated valuation and growth thresholds, show the date and currency for every value, and cite the underlying data.”
  • “Compare the two companies’ exposure to the same commodity, separating reported figures from analyst interpretation.”
  • “Summarize the supplied industry report, identify every stated risk, and distinguish the report’s facts from your synthesis.”
  • “Track new developments on this issuer over the chosen period, group duplicate stories, and retain a link for each distinct source.”

These are test prompts, not claims that every product supports every function. Run each one only where the vendor has confirmed the relevant data and feature entitlement.

Pricing, access and availability: what to verify

The reviewed official pages do not provide comparable public prices for Bloomberg ASKB, LSEG Workspace AI Search, AlphaSense or S&P Capital IQ Pro. Institutional finance services commonly vary by user count, content packages, exchanges, geography, deployment and contract term, so a headline quote without those assumptions is not a meaningful comparison.

Request a written proposal that identifies:

  • Named users, concurrent users and any limits on automated or agentic use.
  • News, filing, transcript, broker-research and market-data entitlements by region.
  • Access to Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams, APIs and internal repositories.
  • Retention, audit, export and administrator controls for prompts, answers and documents.
  • Implementation, training, support and renewal terms.
  • Current availability dates for features described as planned, including Microsoft 365 Copilot access for LSEG.

Do not infer regional availability from a global product page. The sources reviewed do not establish a complete geography-by-geography matrix, so your contract and pilot should settle that question for the locations where the service will be used.

Bottom-line selection

Choose LSEG Workspace AI Search when you want the most direct Bloomberg ASKB-style workflow: natural-language questions tied to market data, filings, Reuters News, screening, comparisons, charts, tables and transparent citations. Choose AlphaSense when research breadth, internal knowledge and deep-diligence agents matter more than a single terminal’s real-time workflow. Choose S&P Capital IQ Pro when document extraction and energy or commodities intelligence are central to fundamental or corporate-finance work. Keep Bloomberg ASKB in the evaluation when its source coverage, Terminal integration and existing user habits outweigh the cost of changing platforms.
