Amazon’s newly announced Kids Tablet 8 and Kids Tablet 11 bundle a case, one year of Kids+, and parent-managed Google Play access; an iPad or standard Android tablet may better suit families who prioritize a broader general-purpose device. Compare the total cost, parental-control setup, app access, and physical fit—not just the starting price.

Age labels are product positioning, not a substitute for a parent’s judgment about maturity, supervision, and how a child will use a device.
What the current options cost and include
Amazon announced its new Kids Tablet family on October 9, 2026. The company says the 8.7-inch Amazon Kids Tablet 8 is for ages 3+ and starts at $229.99, while the 11-inch Kids Tablet 11 is for ages 6+ and starts at $329.99. Both include a case, one year of Kids+, Parent Dashboard, and parent-managed Google Play access. Amazon says shipping begins October 14 in the U.S., Mexico, Canada, and Japan, with an October 19 launch date in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain. These are newly announced products, so check price, local configuration, and availability before buying. Amazon’s announcement has the product details.
TechRadar’s guide, updated October 6, 2026, lists the 11th-generation iPad at $349 in the U.S. (also £329 / AU$599) and the OnePlus Pad Go 2 at $399.99 / £319. The guide describes the iPad as a 10.9-inch model with an A16 chip and 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB storage options; the OnePlus has a 12.1-inch screen and 128GB or 256GB storage. The same comparison lists the Amazon Fire HD 10 (2023) at $139.99 / £149.99, with a 10.1-inch display. It is an older, lower-cost standard tablet—not the newly announced Kids Tablet 8 or 11. TechRadar flags ecosystem dependence and limited game compatibility as tradeoffs.
Choose by age, budget, and expected use
For a younger child who needs a ready-to-use setup
The Amazon Kids Tablet 8 is positioned for ages 3+ and has a smaller 8.7-inch screen. Its bundled case and included year of Kids+ reduce the number of setup decisions at purchase. That convenience does not establish that a child can use it independently or that every app or content choice is right for your household; review the profile, permissions, and content settings yourself.

For an older child who benefits from a larger screen
The Kids Tablet 11 is positioned for ages 6+ and has an 11-inch screen. It keeps the case, Kids+ year, and Parent Dashboard bundle, while parent-managed Google Play gives parents a gate over Play downloads. Consider whether the extra screen size fits the child’s hands, carrying habits, and typical use.
For school, creative work, or a device that can become general-purpose
The 11th-generation iPad is TechRadar’s best overall kids-tablet pick in its October 6, 2026 guide. Its cited strengths are flexibility for schoolwork and entertainment, with the tradeoff of needing a case and a more deliberate family-control setup. It may make sense when the tablet is expected to serve uses beyond a child-focused content environment.

For Android and shared viewing
The OnePlus Pad Go 2’s 12.1-inch display can suit shared viewing or school tasks, but a larger screen is not automatically better for a smaller child. Verify that the apps your family relies on are available and decide which adult account will manage restrictions and downloads.
For the lowest initial outlay
The Fire HD 10 (2023) is the lower-price comparison in TechRadar’s guide, but its age and the noted game-compatibility and ecosystem tradeoffs matter. Compare it with current local offers and the newer Kids Tablet bundle rather than treating the price as a direct like-for-like comparison.

Compare the full ownership cost
A tablet’s starting price is only one part of the cost. Include the protection and accessories needed for your use, plus any subscription after an included period ends.

- School or creative accessories: If you expect keyboard or stylus use, confirm that the device and intended apps support the accessory and add its cost to the comparison.
- App access: A bundle may simplify the child-oriented setup, while a general-purpose tablet can better align with a family’s existing app ecosystem. Confirm app availability and parent-approval steps before purchase.
How parental controls differ
Parental controls are a workflow to configure and maintain, not just a product label. Look at app approvals, web access, purchases, time limits, and whether the adult already uses the platform’s family account tools.

Apple: Screen Time with Family Sharing
Apple says Screen Time can help manage apps and websites, communications, and when a child uses devices. Its guide covers setup through Family Sharing and a child account, app and website approvals, content restrictions, and time schedules. Features can vary by region, age, and software version. Google: Family Link

Samsung: Samsung Kids on supported devices

Amazon’s UK support documentation distinguishes general Fire tablet Parental Controls from a child profile for children under 13. It says general controls can restrict browsing, purchases, apps, content types, wireless connectivity, and other features. Amazon also cautions that these controls do not remove mature or adult-rated content from every device feature or search result.
