Short answer: Choose an Akai MPC when separately exporting sequencer tracks is the deciding requirement; choose a Synthstrom Audible Deluge for a portable, performance-first sampler/sequencer after confirming its current stem-export firmware workflow; choose a Roland SP-404MKII when WAV files for individual pads are enough. The 1010music Bento remains a strong live-looping baseline, but its documented single-track method is a mute-and-render pass rather than a one-click batch export.
Those recommendations depend on what you mean by “stems.” A finished stereo mix, separate arrangement tracks and one WAV per sampler pad are different deliverables. Decide that first, then match the device and its software or firmware version to the job.
What “stem export” must mean for your workflow
Hardware manufacturers use terms such as stem, track, pad and mixdown differently. Before comparing products, identify the file set you need after a performance.

|---|---|---|
| Full song mix | One stereo WAV containing the complete arrangement and any enabled effects | Bento, Deluge, MPC or SP-404MKII, depending on the export command |
| Separate project tracks | One file per sequencer or arrangement track, suitable for mixing in a DAW | Akai MPC, using its documented individual-track workflow |
| Pad stems | One WAV for each pad used by a selected pattern | Roland SP-404MKII MULTIPAD EXPORT |
| Single-track render from Bento | A song render with other tracks muted in the Mixer | 1010music Bento; repeat the pass for each required track |
Track stems preserve the project’s arrangement model. Pad stems preserve the trigger layout of a pattern. Neither automatically gives you the other. Ask a collaborator or mixing engineer which format they expect before buying hardware.

1010music Bento as the baseline
1010music describes Bento as a portable sampling production lab with eight flexible tracks. Its product page lists scene-based sequencing, real-time loop launching, sample-bank, multisample, slicer, granular and external-MIDI track types, effects, multiple stereo inputs and outputs, MIDI, USB-C and an internal battery. It can record external audio, synchronize loop recording to clock, start recording from an input threshold, play a recording immediately and resample the master output. See the official Bento product page for the manufacturer’s feature description.
Firmware matters. The 1010music downloads page listed Bento firmware 1.5.32 from July 2026, with 1.5 additions including step sequencing, USB audio and MIDI, loop groups, XY effects and WAV copy/paste. The page can change, so check the current file and release notes for the unit you own.
How Bento’s documented export works
The 1.4.7 release notes describe song export as playback of the song followed by saving a rendered file in the project folder on the microSD card. To create a single-track file, the notes instruct you to mute every other track in the Mixer and then run the same song-export procedure; the render respects Mixer settings. This is a serial mute-and-render workflow, not an independently selected batch of stems. The notes also warn that Bento does not ask before overwriting a file with the same name. Read the Bento 1.4.7 release notes and verify whether later firmware changes either behavior.

- You capture a vocalist, instrument or ambient source while a clock-synchronized loop is running.
- You want immediate playback, scene changes and resampling inside a battery-powered box.
- You normally deliver a stereo performance mix or only a few manually rendered parts.
- You value flexible track types more than a fully automated multitrack export.
If every session ends with a large set of separately named files for a mix engineer, the extra mute-and-render passes are the main reason to consider an alternative.
Best alternative for separate project tracks: Akai MPC hardware
Akai’s documented export workflow is the clearest match for a reader searching for a sampler that can export stems as separate arrangement tracks. The support article covers MPC projects in MPC 2 and MPC 3 software. In MPC 2, use Save Audio Mixdown and enable Explode Tracks. In MPC 3, use Audio Mixdown and choose Separate Tracks. The dialog also exposes file format, bit depth and sample-rate choices. Follow the exact labels in Akai’s Export Individual Tracks instructions.

The MPC 3 Song-mode limitation
Akai explicitly states that separate tracks are not available in Song mode on MPC 3. That limitation can change how you arrange a set: make sure the material you need to export exists in a supported project or sequence context, or plan a bounce strategy before the session. Do not assume that an MPC model running MPC 3 has the same export choices as an MPC 2 project.
Why MPC is the strongest general track-export candidate
- Deliverable: the manufacturer documents one audio file per project track, rather than requiring a separate mute pass for each part.
- Settings: you can choose format, bit depth and sample rate at export.
- Workflow fit: MPC projects combine sampling, sequencing and arrangement, so the exported files map more naturally to a DAW mix than pad-only files do.
- Caveat: the labels and limitations depend on MPC 2 versus MPC 3, and on the specific hardware generation.
Akai’s firmware page lists MPC Live III among supported Gen 2 devices and showed MPC 3.9.1 as the current release at the time of the cited information. Confirm the current model/software pairing on the Akai MPC firmware downloads page before purchasing or updating. The export documentation establishes the file workflow; it does not establish comparative sound quality, reliability or ease of use.

Choose MPC when
Choose this route if “individual track export” means the files must follow the project’s sequencer tracks, and you can work within the MPC 2 or MPC 3 export context. It is less attractive if your priority is the simplest pad-trigger performance and you only need one WAV per pad.
Best portable performance alternative: Synthstrom Audible Deluge
Synthstrom describes Deluge as an all-in-one, stand-alone, portable synthesizer, sequencer and sampler for creating, performing and improvising electronic music. That positioning makes it a credible Bento alternative for live sampling, clip and song performance, and hardware-only sessions. The manufacturer’s description is on the Deluge product page.
Stem export evidence and its qualification
A community documentation site describes an EXPORT STEMS menu in Song and Arranger views. Its documented options include normalization, export-to-silence, song effects and offline rendering. This is useful evidence of a possible song-level stem workflow, but it is community documentation rather than a manufacturer guarantee. Check the firmware version, menu names and supported hardware configuration on the unit you intend to use before treating Deluge as your export solution. The community instructions are available at Deluge stem export documentation.

Where Deluge fits better than Bento
- You want a self-contained instrument centered on improvisation and performance rather than a computer-connected production session.
- You prefer a grid-based sequencer that can serve clips, patterns and longer arrangements in one instrument.
- You are willing to verify firmware-dependent export behavior and keep a backup rendering method.
Do not present the community-described menu as universal across all Deluge firmware versions. If a project must be delivered as guaranteed, separately named files on a deadline, confirm the export on the exact firmware first.

The SP-404MKII is a strong match when your production model is pattern plus pads. Roland’s reference manual documents MULTIPAD EXPORT: select a pattern and export the phrase as a WAV stem for each pad to the SD card’s EXPORT folder. The procedure and file destination are in the SP-404MKII reference manual.
Understand the scope
Multipad export gives you pad-level audio files. It is not evidence of a general, song-wide multitrack export equivalent to MPC’s separate project tracks. A pad may contain a one-shot, a loop or a resampled phrase, while the pattern supplies the timing. If your engineer wants kick, snare, bass and vocal as arrangement tracks, confirm that your pad organization and pattern length produce useful files before committing to this workflow.
Choose SP-404MKII when
- Your live set is built around pads, patterns, resampling and quick sample manipulation.
- Per-pad WAV files are the required handoff.
- You do not need a documented batch export of every independent song or sequencer track.

| Roland SP-404MKII | Input sampling, pad triggering and resampling-centered performance | Patterns and pads | MULTIPAD EXPORT creates a WAV stem for each pad in a selected pattern | Pad stems are not a claim of general project-track export |
How to choose the right Bento alternative
Choose by the file handoff
- Need one stereo file? Bento’s song export may be sufficient, as may a performance-oriented Deluge or SP-404MKII workflow.
- Need one file per sequencer track? Start with MPC and confirm whether your arrangement is in a context supported by MPC 2 or MPC 3.
- Need one file per pad? SP-404MKII’s documented MULTIPAD EXPORT is the most direct match.
- Need song-level stems but can verify firmware? Investigate Deluge’s current implementation and perform a test project before relying on it.
Choose by performance behavior
For clocked external-loop capture, Bento’s documented threshold and immediate-playback behavior is unusually relevant. For a broader standalone sequencer and improvisation environment, Deluge is the natural candidate. For pad-first beat performance, SP-404MKII keeps the mental model close to pattern and pad triggering. MPC is the most practical compromise when live sampling must end in organized mix files.
Choose by connectivity and portability
Bento’s published feature set includes multiple stereo inputs and outputs, MIDI, USB-C and an internal battery. Deluge is explicitly positioned as portable and standalone. MPC and SP-404MKII configurations vary by model and setup, so inspect the exact hardware’s audio I/O, MIDI ports, storage and power requirements before buying. Do not infer battery life, connector count or included accessories from a product family name alone.

Reliable export practices for any of these devices
Prepare the project
- Save a new project version before rendering.
- Use clear names that include the song, section and date; avoid reusing a filename when the device may overwrite without a prompt.
- Confirm sample rate, bit depth and file format with the person receiving the stems.
- Decide whether master effects, track effects, tails and silence should be printed.
- Leave enough storage on the microSD card or internal drive for every rendered file.
Check timing and tails
Offline or song-level renders may include a complete arrangement, while pad exports can follow pattern length. Set the intended start and end points, allow reverb and delay tails where appropriate, and inspect the first and last bar in a DAW. A file that begins at a different bar or ends before an effect tail can be difficult to align, even when its audio sounds correct.
Verify the files
- Open the destination folder on the device or card and confirm that every expected file exists.
- Check filenames, channel format and duration.
- Import the files into a DAW at the documented sample rate and line them up from bar one.
- Solo each file against the original performance to detect missing effects, muted parts or truncated tails.
- Keep the original project and an unprocessed mix alongside the exported files.
Common failure modes and fixes
The export contains only a mix
You likely used a song-render command rather than a separate-track or pad-export command. On MPC, use the version-specific individual-track workflow. On Bento, the documented method is to mute all other tracks and render again for each track. On SP-404MKII, select MULTIPAD EXPORT rather than a conventional pattern mixdown.
Tracks are missing in MPC 3
Check whether the project is in Song mode. Akai’s documentation states that separate tracks are unavailable there. Rework the arrangement in a supported project or sequence context, then repeat the Audio Mixdown process.
Deluge has no stem menu
Confirm the installed firmware, the current Song or Arranger view and the exact hardware configuration. The cited export instructions are community-maintained, so do not assume every menu appears on every release. If the feature remains unavailable, render the required parts through an alternate workflow before the deadline.

Bento overwrote a previous render
The 1.4.7 release notes warn that Bento does not warn before overwriting a same-named file. Change the project or export name before each mute-and-render pass and copy completed files off the card promptly.

Files do not align in the DAW
Check that all files share the same start point, sample rate and tempo interpretation. Re-export with consistent song boundaries, include tails deliberately and avoid changing the project tempo between passes.
Bottom-line recommendations
Buy or keep Bento if live input capture, synchronized looping, scenes and immediate playback are your priorities and you can tolerate manual track renders.
Choose an MPC when the decisive requirement is manufacturer-documented export of separate project tracks. Verify the model, MPC 2 versus MPC 3 workflow and the MPC 3 Song-mode restriction.
Choose Deluge when a portable standalone performance and sampling instrument matters most and you can validate the community-documented stem-export workflow on your firmware.
Choose SP-404MKII when your deliverable is one WAV per pad from a pattern and a pad-centered performance model suits the music.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Bento export a single track without exporting the others?
The cited Bento 1.4.7 procedure is to mute the other tracks in the Mixer and render the song, repeating the pass for each track you need. Check later firmware notes for changes.
Which alternative is safest for a mixing engineer who wants separate tracks?
An Akai MPC has the clearest manufacturer-documented project-track export, but the exact MPC 2 or MPC 3 workflow and the MPC 3 Song-mode limitation must be checked first.
Are SP-404MKII pad exports the same as multitrack stems?
No. MULTIPAD EXPORT creates a WAV for each pad in a selected pattern; that is a pad-level deliverable, not a general claim of song-wide sequencer-track export.
