The most useful aim routine for FPS 1v1s is a balanced fundamentals session followed by focused practice for the duel you tend to lose. Aimlabs’ current game-agnostic Aim Basics playlist covers flicking, target switching and tracking in roughly 30 minutes; its VALORANT Aim Basics playlist is a 24-minute option built around micro-corrections, flicking, smoothness and situations such as strafes and angle peeks. Neither routine is proven to guarantee more 1v1 wins. Treat aim training as practice for specific skills, then check whether those skills carry over in the game you actually play.

Choose a routine that matches the duel you lose

Fast clicking is only one part of aiming. A duel can go wrong because you acquire the target slowly, make a poor correction, lose a moving opponent, or fire inaccurately while moving. A good routine therefore starts with broad fundamentals and then gives extra attention to the skill behind your most common miss.

If you do not yet know which weakness matters most, start with the current Aimlabs Aim Basics hub. Its game-agnostic playlist is designed to cover flicking, target switching and tracking in roughly 30 minutes. If you already have a specific game and recurring duel problem, use an available routine for that game or a focused block aimed at the relevant skill. Aimlabs’ hub also describes routines for Counter-Strike 2, Apex Legends, Rainbow Six Siege and other games; mechanics and task names should not be assumed to transfer exactly between titles.

Practice option Best starting point for Stated duration and coverage
Game-agnostic Aim Basics Players who want broad practice or have not isolated a weakness Roughly 30 minutes; flicking, target switching and tracking
VALORANT Aim Basics VALORANT players who want drills shaped around that game’s duels 24 minutes: eight one-minute tasks repeated three times
Focused practice block Players with limited time or a clearly identified weakness Duration depends on the block you choose; it is an adaptation, not the complete official playlist

These are starting points, not a ranking based on measured win-rate results. The routine descriptions explain what each playlist contains and how long it takes; they do not establish that one produces a larger increase in 1v1 wins than another. The practical choice depends on your game, the problem you want to address and how much time you can consistently set aside.

It also helps to separate a general warm-up from targeted improvement. A balanced playlist exposes you to several fundamentals, while a focused block spends more of the session on one weakness. If you are unsure what to prioritize, breadth is a reasonable starting point. If your duels repeatedly reveal the same issue, give that skill attention without assuming the rest of your aim no longer matters.

What the VALORANT Aim Basics routine trains

The official VALORANT Aim Basics guide describes eight tasks, each one minute long, repeated three times for a total of 24 minutes. The tasks are grouped around micro-corrections, flicking, smoothness and game-specific situations. Use the playlist as described rather than treating a shortened selection as the full routine.

Skill area Tasks in the routine What the practice emphasizes
Micro-corrections Micro 2 Sphere VALORANT; Microshot VALORANT Small adjustments and chained corrections on small or strafing targets
Flicking Adjustshot VALORANT; Headshot VALORANT Acquiring a target, then correcting the aim, including on moving targets
Smoothness Strafe Track VALORANT; Angle Track VALORANT Following a strafing target, maintaining stability and keeping crosshair placement while taking angles
Game-specific situations Strafeshot VALORANT; Peekshot VALORANT Responding to evasive movement and to opponents peeking from either side of a corridor

These task descriptions are specific to the VALORANT playlist. Do not assume that their names, timings or scenarios define the best practice for another FPS. Where a game-specific routine exists, its own task design is a better starting point than importing VALORANT mechanics wholesale.

The playlist combines distinct demands rather than repeating one kind of target engagement for the full session. Small corrections are different from the initial movement needed to acquire a target; following a moving target is different again from holding stable crosshair placement around an angle. That mix is one reason to use the routine as a whole when you want its intended coverage. A smaller selection can still be useful for a specific weakness, but it should be described as a focused adaptation.

The eight tasks are not a promise that every player needs exactly the same emphasis. For example, if your main problem is losing a strafing opponent, tracking and smoothness are especially relevant; if you are consistently late to a peek, the game-specific tasks may be a better fit for extra attention. Keep the full playlist’s stated structure clear, then personalize your additional work based on observed duels.

Build a practical session around trainer and game practice

An aim trainer lets you repeat a target task; a live game adds crosshair placement, movement, weapon handling and the pressure of a real duel. Use both. A trainer-only session can help you practice a skill in isolation, but it cannot by itself establish whether your decisions and aim work in match situations.

  1. Pick a session length you can repeat. Use the roughly 30-minute game-agnostic playlist as a broad session, or the 24-minute VALORANT playlist for its game-specific task set. If you have less time, select a short block for your main weakness; do not describe that shortened block as the complete official playlist.
  2. Practice the chosen skill in the trainer. Work through the relevant playlist or focused tasks. Aimlabs’ practice guidance favors purposeful, reasonable, consistent sessions over trying to train all day. Its author gives 15 minutes a day as an example of purposeful practice, but that is publisher advice, not an independently established minimum or a guaranteed route to improvement.
  3. Move into the game’s practice environment. For VALORANT, use the Range to practice with the game’s weapons and scenarios. Aimlabs’ VALORANT guide recommends prioritizing accuracy over speed at first, then combining movement with accuracy, including counter-strafing.
  4. Play duels or matches with one observation in mind. Notice whether the problem you trained—such as losing a strafing target or missing a small correction—still appears. Keep the observation specific enough to guide the next session.
  5. Adjust the next session rather than chasing a score. Keep a balanced routine if you do not have a clear weakness; otherwise, devote focused practice to the recurring problem and reassess its carryover in the game.

The order matters: isolated repetition is useful for practice, while the game is where you assess whether the skill fits the movement, angles and accuracy demands of your actual duels. A high trainer score alone is not evidence that a routine has improved your match results.

For a VALORANT session, the practical sequence can be simple: complete the chosen Aim Basics playlist or a clearly labeled focused block, spend time in the Range working on controlled accuracy, and then play with a single focus such as staying accurate through movement. The Range is not a substitute for real opponents, but it gives you an in-game place to practice with the game’s weapons and scenarios before judging your performance in duels.

Aimlabs’ author, Mr Aimlabs, writes that “Even if you spend 15 minutes a day with purposeful training, you’ll see the benefits over time.” Treat that as the publisher’s encouragement to practice consistently, not as a tested threshold, guarantee or requirement. If your schedule only allows a shorter focused block, consistency and a clear purpose are more useful framing than claiming you completed a longer official playlist.

Match a common 1v1 problem to a practice focus

Before choosing extra drills, describe the failure as an observable event. “My aim is bad” does not identify what to practice; “I see the opponent but my first correction falls short” gives you a more useful starting point.

  • You see the opponent but miss the first shot: Focus on target acquisition and controlled accuracy. The VALORANT playlist’s flicking tasks practice initial acquisition followed by correction. In the Range, follow the advice to prioritize accuracy before pushing for speed.
  • Your aim lands near the target but small corrections are unreliable: Give more attention to micro-corrections. Micro 2 Sphere VALORANT and Microshot VALORANT are the named options in the VALORANT routine for small adjustments and chained corrections.
  • You lose track of an opponent who is strafing: Practice tracking and smoothness rather than only stationary flicks. The VALORANT routine includes Strafe Track VALORANT for following a strafing target; the general Aim Basics playlist also includes tracking.
  • You can hit targets in the trainer but struggle with peeks or angles: Include game-specific practice. VALORANT’s Angle Track VALORANT and Peekshot VALORANT address angle-related situations, while practice in the Range and actual duels lets you work in the game’s context.
  • Your shots are inaccurate while moving: Practice movement and accuracy together in the game, including counter-strafing for VALORANT. Do not treat movement as a separate problem if the missed shots happen during movement.
  • You are not sure what is going wrong: Begin with a balanced fundamentals playlist. During duels, observe whether the recurring issue is the first shot, tracking, movement accuracy or an angle; use that observation to personalize the next practice block.

This is a way to select practice, not a diagnostic test. A missed duel can have more than one cause, and a particular task should not be treated as proof that you have corrected it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Make the observation concrete enough to compare from session to session. Instead of recording only “lost the duel,” note whether you saw the opponent late, started with the crosshair away from the likely angle, lost the target during a strafe, or fired while movement made the shot inaccurate. These examples help distinguish an aim-training focus from an in-game context problem, although a single loss does not establish the cause.

Also avoid turning one frustrating match into a complete routine overhaul. The practice advice from Aimlabs is to choose a purposeful goal, use a playlist and reflect on whether performance feels different. That supports small, deliberate adjustments; it does not specify a magic number of sessions or a fixed progression that applies to every player.

Measure progress without mistaking scores for wins

Use more than one kind of measurement. Trainer metrics can help you notice changes in task performance; live-game measures and observations help you judge whether practice is relevant to actual play. Neither category, by itself, proves that a routine caused a change in 1v1 results.

What to track Examples named in the guidance What it can tell you
Trainer task performance Accuracy, speed, reaction time and tracking How you performed on the trainer tasks being measured
Game outcomes Headshot percentage or average damage per round Whether a chosen in-game goal appears to change over time
Qualitative carryover Whether aim feels controlled and the trained weakness appears less often in duels Whether the practice seems relevant in match situations

Set a realistic goal before a session—for example, working on accuracy or paying attention to one recurring duel failure—then reflect afterward. Avoid changing several variables at once if you want to understand what seems to help. Aimlabs recommends sampling a playlist, choosing purposeful practice and checking whether performance feels different. These are practice-management suggestions, not a validated formula for predicting or increasing duel wins.

Riot Games’ 2021 Aim Lab Combine announcement gives a historical example of how aim practice can be measured. Its Player Cards summarized overall and individual task performance, with measures including accuracy, speed, reaction time and tracking. Those numbers describe performance on the measured tasks; they are not a direct measure of how often a player wins 1v1s.

For your own practice, choose a small number of signals rather than treating every available number as equally meaningful. You might look at trainer accuracy or tracking for the task you practiced, then check a game goal such as headshot percentage or average damage per round alongside your notes about specific duel problems. Aimlabs suggests goals of this kind, but they are examples for reflection, not validated standalone predictors of winning a 1v1.

Be cautious about reading too much into a short run of scores. A better task score can mean you performed better on that task; it does not establish why, whether the change will last, or whether it transfers to another game or mode. Likewise, a match result can be affected by factors beyond aim. The useful question is narrower: does the weakness you chose to practice seem less prominent in the situations where you previously noticed it?

What the VALORANT Aim Lab Combine does—and does not—show

Riot Games’ 2021 Aim Lab Combine announcement described six custom tasks for VALORANT practice: Entry, Headshots, Microflexing, Tracking, Trigger Control and Wallpeek. It said registered players’ Player Cards summarized overall and individual task measurements, including accuracy, speed, reaction time and tracking, as well as VALORANT rank and primary agent. Riot also noted that players could repeat tasks to improve their scores.

This announcement is useful historical context for the kinds of skills and measurements used in that Combine. It is not evidence that the same event or feature is currently available, and improving a Combine or trainer score is not proof of a better 1v1 win rate. The published routine descriptions and practice guidance do not provide a controlled comparison showing that a particular routine causes a quantified improvement in FPS duels.

The Combine’s categories also show why “aim” can refer to more than one task type: Entry, Headshots, Microflexing, Tracking, Trigger Control and Wallpeek each point to a different practice emphasis. They are named categories from a 2021 announcement, not a required checklist for a current training plan. If you refer to the Combine, keep the date and historical status attached rather than implying that registration, scoring or the event is currently active.

How to choose between general and game-specific practice

A general playlist makes sense when you want to maintain a range of fundamentals or have not identified a particular weakness. A game-specific routine makes more sense when the problem involves situations or mechanics distinctive to the game, such as VALORANT’s strafing-target and angle-peek tasks. Focused practice is a practical adaptation when time is limited or a specific problem is clear, but it trades broad coverage for concentration on one area.

  • Choose breadth when you need to practice more than one core skill or are unsure what is limiting you. The current game-agnostic Aim Basics playlist covers flicking, target switching and tracking.
  • Choose game context when your problem occurs in a recognizable in-game situation. VALORANT Aim Basics includes tasks around strafing targets, stability and peeking angles.
  • Choose a shorter focus when a full playlist does not fit your schedule. Keep the selected skill tied to a real duel problem and treat the shorter block as an adjustment, not the official complete routine.
  • Reassess using both kinds of evidence when a trainer score improves but the same match problem persists. Return to in-game accuracy, movement and situation practice rather than assuming more score-chasing will solve it.

The best choice is therefore conditional: begin broadly if you lack a diagnosis, then specialize based on what you observe in your own duels. Practice can be consistent without being long, and its value is better judged by purposeful work and in-game relevance than by session length alone.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Time and coverage are the clearest stated comparison between the two named playlists: the current general Aim Basics routine is designed for roughly 30 minutes and covers flicking, target switching and tracking, while the VALORANT playlist is 24 minutes and names eight one-minute tasks repeated three times. The shorter stated duration does not mean the VALORANT playlist is inherently better or more efficient for every player; it has a different, game-specific design. Choose based on what you play and what you need to practice, not duration alone.

There is no special hardware requirement in these routine descriptions. The recommended core practice consists of downloadable playlists and in-game activities such as the VALORANT Range. A gaming mouse or mousepad may be part of a player’s setup, but this practice guidance does not establish that a particular model or equipment upgrade is necessary for the routine or useful for improving 1v1 performance.

Aimlabs’ current hub describes game-specific routines beyond VALORANT, including Counter-Strike 2, Apex Legends and Rainbow Six Siege. That is a reason to look for the routine associated with the title you play, not to assume that one playlist’s weapon handling, movement or angle scenarios map cleanly to another game. Keep your in-game practice anchored to the actual mechanics and duels you want to improve.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long should I aim train before playing?

The current game-agnostic Aimlabs Aim Basics playlist is designed for roughly 30 minutes. The official VALORANT Aim Basics playlist is 24 minutes: eight one-minute tasks repeated three times. If you have less time, use a shorter focused block for your main weakness, but do not describe it as the complete official playlist. Aimlabs recommends reasonable, consistent practice rather than training all day; its author’s 15-minutes-a-day example is guidance, not a tested minimum or guarantee.

What should I practice in Aimlabs for VALORANT 1v1s?

The VALORANT Aim Basics playlist includes micro-corrections, flicking, smoothness and game-specific tasks. Its named tasks include Micro 2 Sphere VALORANT and Microshot VALORANT for small adjustments; Adjustshot VALORANT and Headshot VALORANT for target acquisition and correction; Strafe Track VALORANT and Angle Track VALORANT for tracking, stability and angles; and Strafeshot VALORANT and Peekshot VALORANT for evasive movement and peeks. Pair trainer practice with the Range and actual duels.

Should I focus on flicking or tracking for 1v1s?

Choose based on the problem you notice. If you are slow to acquire a target or your first correction misses, flicking and micro-correction practice may be relevant. If you lose an opponent who is strafing, tracking and smoothness are a better focus. A balanced playlist is a sensible starting point if you have not identified a recurring weakness.

Will an aim trainer routine guarantee more 1v1 wins?

No. The routine descriptions and practice guidance explain what tasks train, but they do not establish that a particular routine causes a quantified increase in FPS 1v1 win rate. Track trainer performance alongside in-game goals and observations, and treat them as clues about practice and carryover rather than proof of causation.

Do I need special hardware for these routines?

The recommended core practice uses downloadable playlists and in-game activities; no specific mouse or mousepad is required by the routine guidance. It does not establish that buying new hardware will improve your 1v1 results.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Bottom Line

Start with a balanced routine if you are unsure what is limiting your duels, then focus extra practice on the recurring problem you actually observe. Aimlabs’ current general Aim Basics playlist takes roughly 30 minutes; the VALORANT Aim Basics playlist takes 24 minutes and includes eight one-minute tasks repeated three times. Pair trainer work with practice in the game, especially accuracy and movement, and judge progress using both task measures and in-game observations. Neither a high score nor a named routine guarantees more 1v1 wins.
