Best overall for a rich, reactive world: LivingLSAIs. Best for private offline play: Sentience V5.1 Animus, provided your PC meets its local-LLM requirements and you can work around its current primarily Chinese dialogue. Enhanced Conversations is the most interesting local beta, TalkToMeV is the simplest Gemini-based option, GTA V AI NPC Edition offers Ollama or API backends, and GTA V Offline AI Co-Pilot is better understood as a local voice companion than as a replacement for conversations with every pedestrian.
All of these are Story Mode experiments. Script-hook modifications should never be loaded when launching GTA Online. Voice cloning or voice-reference files also require the rights to use those voices.
Which GTA V AI conversation mod should you choose?
Use this table to narrow the field before installing anything. The projects do not publish a common latency, quality or frame-rate benchmark, so the feature and requirement descriptions below are project-stated rather than independently measured.

Not currently an installable recommendation: Living World AI. Its Nexus listing says it was hidden on 2026-09-24 because it was unsupported and had issues the authors could not fix. Reconsider it only if the listing returns with active maintenance.

What NPCTalk actually is
NPCTalk is a toolkit and workflow rather than one universal, plug-and-play GTA V mod. Its GTA V example uses Script Hook and a stack of separate services: a voice or character engine, a large-language model, speech-to-text, text-to-speech and an action engine. The intended loop is to inspect the game state, select a character and voice, capture what the player says, send that input to the language model, synthesize a reply and optionally trigger an in-game action.
The repository describes NPCs answering in character in a cloned voice roughly a second after the player speaks. That timing is an implementation claim for the project’s documented setup, not a benchmark that applies to every computer or model. The workflow also supports typed input, push-to-talk and character personas, which means you can start without a microphone and add voice later.
Why the distinction matters
- A mod with a built-in local model is easier to keep offline than a toolkit that expects you to assemble cloud and voice services.
- World reactions depend on the game-state bridge, not just on the quality of the language model.
- Voice cloning is a rights issue. Use only voice references you are authorized to use.
- Script Hook testing belongs in single-player. NPCTalk explicitly warns against launching GTA Online with a script hook installed.
Cloud richness versus local control
The central decision is where inference happens. Cloud-backed mods can use larger or newer conversational models and avoid loading a language model into your gaming PC, but they need a network connection, an API key and available quota. A 429 or quota response can stop a conversation even when GTA V itself is running normally. Network delay also makes voice turn-taking less predictable.

The trade-off is hardware: model loading consumes RAM, CPU time and sometimes GPU memory. A local model can also be less capable in unusual conversations, and installing a compatible runtime may take more work than pasting in a cloud API key.
Pick by priority
- Most reactive world: LivingLSAIs, if Gemini quota and internet access are acceptable.
- Offline memory and extensibility: Sentience V5.1 Animus, with its documented language limitation in mind.
- Local experimentation: Enhanced Conversations, a beta using Phi-3, llama.cpp and Vulkan.
- Multilingual cloud chat: TalkToMeV.
- Backend flexibility: GTA V AI NPC Edition, because it describes both Ollama and an OpenAI-compatible API route.
- Private voice helper: GTA V Offline AI Co-Pilot, which focuses on companionship and game-state assistance.
LivingLSAIs: the closest broad-world alternative
LivingLSAIs is the closest match when your goal is to speak with characters while they remain aware of the surrounding sandbox. Its documented context includes the player’s location, current weather, health, vehicle, weapons and wanted level. NPCs can have personalities, voices and memory, and the system can produce dynamic actions instead of returning dialogue alone.

How conversations work
You can use text or voice. A voice turn is sent through the Gemini or Gemini Live cloud route, interpreted in the selected character’s context and returned as synthesized speech or an action. Because the system reads live game state, the same character can respond differently during a quiet street conversation, a police chase or a fight.
What you need
- A working GTA V single-player modding foundation and the project’s local bridge.
- A Gemini API configuration with remaining quota.
- A microphone if you want spoken input rather than typed messages.
- Enough network stability for repeated requests during play.
Known failure modes
The author notes occasional turns with no audio, quota errors, pathfinding failures, interruptions when combat takes over and NPCs despawning. Treat those as expected recovery cases: retry a silent turn, check quota and API status, move away from an active firefight when pathfinding is blocked, and reacquire a character after a despawn. These symptoms do not necessarily indicate a broken GTA V installation.

Sentience is the strongest choice when “offline” means no cloud conversation service. It runs a local LLM and adds long-term memory, emotions, more than 30 character archetypes, text-to-speech, microphone speech-to-text, a plugin SDK and a JSON scenario engine. Its documented behaviors go beyond talking: an NPC may attack, flee, call the cops, hug, smoke or dance.

The page currently warns that NPC dialogue is primarily Chinese. That makes Sentience a compelling systems and offline experiment, but not the safest recommendation for an English-first role-play session. Check the project’s current language status before committing to a large installation.
Why memory and plugins matter
Long-term memory lets a character retain facts across interactions instead of treating every encounter as a blank prompt. The plugin SDK and JSON scenario engine give technically inclined players a way to define repeatable situations, behaviors and extensions. Those capabilities are more useful for a planned scenario or recurring cast than for a quick one-off conversation.

Enhanced Conversations: local Phi-3 in an open beta
Enhanced Conversations uses Phi-3 through llama.cpp and Vulkan. Conversation memory, summaries and speech-to-text input are documented, so it sits between a simple chat overlay and a full world-simulation framework. The public listing identifies version 0.6.0.0 as an open beta released on 2025-11-17.
Who should try it
Choose this project if you want to learn how a local model behaves inside GTA V and are comfortable adjusting graphics or runtime settings. It is not the pick for a no-maintenance installation: the author notes Vulkan and DirectX interactions, and hardware fit varies with the selected model and your existing game settings.
Practical expectations
- Allow extra time for first-run model loading and runtime configuration.
- Keep a copy of your working graphics settings before changing Vulkan-related options.
- Expect beta regressions after game or ScriptHook updates.
TalkToMeV: a straightforward Gemini API layer
TalkToMeV is aimed at a simpler cloud conversation setup. It uses the Google Gemini 2.0 Flash API and supplies context about location, NPC type, weather and vehicle. The documented language set is English, Polish, Spanish, French, German and Italian.
Installation prerequisites
- Use GTA V on PC in Story Mode.
- Install ScriptHookV and ScriptHookVDotNet3.
- Install .NET Framework 4.8.
- Create and protect a Gemini API key.
- Copy the mod DLL into the game’s
scriptsfolder, following the project’s current file layout.
Because the mod depends on a cloud key, keep the key out of screenshots, public configuration files and shared mod archives. If replies stop with an authorization or quota error, regenerate or reconfigure the key rather than repeatedly reinstalling the DLL.
GTA V AI NPC Edition: switchable local or hosted backends
This project describes open-ended dialogue with 15 NPC archetypes and reactions to wealth, wanted level and vehicle. It also describes text or speech input and two backend paths: local Ollama or an OpenAI-compatible API.

When the flexibility helps
Ollama lets you keep inference on the PC, while an API endpoint can be useful when your local hardware cannot load the desired model. The ability to change backends is valuable for testing privacy, response quality and resource use without changing the in-game concept.
Installation choices
The project lists Vortex, Mod Organizer 2 or manual installation and recommends the latest game patch. Whichever method you use, confirm that the selected patch is supported by the current ScriptHook build. Feature descriptions in the README are project claims; there is no standardized independent test showing that every advertised reaction works consistently.
GTA V Offline AI Co-Pilot: companion first, NPC simulation second
Offline AI Co-Pilot is a 100% local voice assistant for GTA V Enhanced single-player. Its stack is faster-whisper for speech recognition, Ollama running Hermes 3 3B for language processing and Piper for speech synthesis. It can comment on live game state, answer by voice and perform a small whitelist of actions. An embodied companion with lip-sync is part of the design.
This architecture is different from a system that equips every pedestrian with a persona. Choose it when you want a private co-driver, mission helper or conversational companion. Do not install it expecting every passer-by to become an autonomous social character.
Common installation workflow
Although file names differ, most ScriptHook-based projects follow the same preparation sequence. Read the current project instructions for exact release files and supported game builds.

- Back up your clean game setup. Keep a copy of the original game directory or a known-good mod profile so you can remove a failed experiment without guessing which file caused it.
- Confirm Story Mode and PC support. These projects target GTA V on Windows. Do not test them in GTA Online.
- Check the game build. ScriptHookV and ScriptHookVDotNet support specific patches. A mod that worked before an update may need a new hook or may be temporarily incompatible.
- Install required script components. Common dependencies are ScriptHookV, ScriptHookVDotNet and, for TalkToMeV, .NET Framework 4.8. Sentience specifically lists ScriptHookVDotNet 3.6 or newer.
- Install one AI mod at a time. Multiple conversation frameworks can compete for the same input, audio device or script events. Add the next project only after the first one launches reliably.
- Configure the backend. For cloud mods, enter the API key in the location documented by the author and restrict file permissions where possible. For local mods, install the required model runtime and verify that the model loads before starting GTA V.
- Set push-to-talk and audio devices. Select the intended microphone, choose a key that does not conflict with GTA V controls and test input levels outside combat.
- Start with a low-risk test scene. Use a quiet street, speak a short sentence and verify transcription, model response, synthesized audio and any action trigger separately.
- Record the working configuration. Note the game build, ScriptHook versions, model name, API settings and graphics backend. This makes rollback possible after an update.
Microphone and voice setup
A microphone is not universally required: typed input works in NPCTalk’s documented workflow, and Sentience lists the microphone as required only when voice input is enabled. For a voice-first experience, use a dedicated USB microphone or a headset with a stable input level.
Reduce recognition errors
- Set the microphone as the default input device before launching the game.
- Disable aggressive noise suppression if it clips the first or last words of a sentence.
- Use push-to-talk in busy scenes so gunfire and engine noise are not transcribed as speech.
- Keep the microphone away from speakers to prevent the NPC’s synthesized reply from being fed back into speech recognition.
- Test one short sentence before changing model or game settings; this isolates an audio problem from an AI problem.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The mod does not load
Verify that the game is the PC edition, that the files are in the expected root or scripts directory, and that ScriptHookV and ScriptHookVDotNet versions match the current game patch. Remove other recently added scripts and retest one mod alone.
Speech is transcribed but there is no reply
For cloud projects, check API-key validity, quota and network access. LivingLSAIs specifically documents quota failures and occasional no-audio turns. For local projects, confirm that the model process is running, the selected model is present and the system has enough free RAM.

Actions depend on the game-state and pathfinding bridge, not just on text generation. LivingLSAIs notes pathfinding failures, combat interruptions and despawns. Move to a clear area, end active combat and reacquire the NPC before assuming the language model failed.
Performance drops after enabling a local model
Close other memory-heavy applications, reduce the local model size if the project allows it, lower GTA V graphics settings and watch system memory while the model loads. Sentience’s 16 GB minimum and 32 GB recommendation are a useful warning that local inference competes with the game for resources.
An update breaks the setup
Disable the AI script, confirm that unmodded Story Mode launches, then check for a compatible ScriptHook release and a mod update. Do not carry an old hook into GTA Online while troubleshooting.
