Acorn TV is a strong fit if you want mystery, suspense, and drama rather than a general-purpose streaming catalog. The service’s official US/Canada overview currently lists direct plans at $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year, with the annual option described as 12 months for the price of 10. Acorn TV’s signup help describes a seven-day trial for new customers. Prices, eligibility, titles, and device support can change, so confirm the offer and the catalog shown for your country before paying.
This guide explains how to choose what to watch, which subscription route makes sense, how to watch on a television or phone, and what the Prime Video channel does differently from the standalone app.
What Acorn TV is best at
Acorn TV positions itself around mysteries and suspense-driven dramas. That makes it more focused than a broad streaming service: viewers who enjoy investigations, slow-burn tension, character-led crime stories, and international drama are more likely to find a good fit than viewers looking primarily for blockbuster films, live sports, or a large general entertainment library.
The homepage promotes weekly additions, but the service does not guarantee a permanent, identical catalog. Its terms explain that content can change and that a title may not be offered in every region. Use the catalog displayed after selecting your country as the final check before subscribing, especially if one particular series is the reason you are joining.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Because the available lineup changes, the most reliable way to make “best picks” is to choose by viewing mood and then confirm each title in your territory. The following approach avoids recommending a show that may have left the service or may not be licensed where you live.
Best for traditional mystery fans
Start with detective-led stories in which the central question is solved through interviews, evidence, and observation. Look for descriptions that mention a case, investigation, village or community secrets, or an unusual death. These are usually the closest match for viewers who like a clear puzzle and a methodical solution.
Best for suspense and darker drama
Choose titles described with terms such as psychological suspense, missing person, conspiracy, corruption, or family secrets. These stories generally put more emphasis on danger and uncertainty than on a neatly structured whodunit. Check the age rating and episode synopsis before starting if you prefer to avoid especially intense material.

Best for international and British-style storytelling
Acorn TV’s audience often seeks drama from outside the largest US studio catalogs. When browsing, check the country of origin, subtitle and audio options, and episode length. Regional licensing can affect both the title itself and the available language tracks.
Best for a short trial-period watchlist
If you are using the seven-day trial, make a shortlist before pressing play. Pick one series with a strong first episode, one shorter limited series, and a fallback film or episode collection if your first choice is unavailable. Do not assume that a title found in a search result is included: open its page while signed in and confirm that playback is offered in your location.
Acorn TV plans, price, and the trial
Acorn TV’s official US/Canada overview currently displays these direct-subscription terms:
| Direct plan | Displayed price | What the page says |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly | $9.99 per month | Recurring monthly subscription |
| Annual | $99.99 per year | 12 months for the price of 10 |
These are the displayed US/Canada prices on Acorn TV’s overview page accessed in 2026, not a guarantee for another country, currency, tax treatment, promotion, or future date. Review the amount on the checkout screen before confirming payment: Acorn TV’s plan overview.
The signup help describes a seven-day free trial for new customers. After the trial, the selected plan is billed until you cancel. The wording is specifically for new customers, so prior trials, partner subscriptions, payment method, location, and current promotions may affect eligibility. Confirm the trial end date and renewal amount on the signup screen: Acorn TV’s subscription instructions.

Monthly or annual: which should you choose?
- Choose monthly if you are testing the catalog, want flexibility, or expect to watch for only a few months.
- Choose annual if you already know you will watch throughout the year and the displayed annual price remains attractive in your country.
- Use the trial carefully: record the renewal date and cancel before it if you decide not to continue. Do not rely on deleting the app to stop billing; cancellation must be completed through the account or billing provider that accepted the subscription.
Where Acorn TV is available
Acorn TV’s help center lists the United States and its territories, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom as supported locations. This is the official country set in the cited help article, not a promise that every title or device works identically in each market: see the availability list.
Availability has two separate parts:
- Service availability: whether Acorn TV accepts subscriptions and provides an app in your country.
- Catalog availability: whether a particular series, season, subtitle track, or download is licensed in that country.
A billing address must be in the same country where the service is being watched, according to the signup help. If your payment address and viewing location do not match, registration or payment may fail. Travelers should also expect the catalog and playback rights to follow location-based licensing rather than the catalog they saw at home.
What devices can you use to watch Acorn TV?
The official compatible-device list includes the following categories and operating-system thresholds. The list can change, so use the support page to confirm a particular model before buying hardware: Acorn TV compatible devices.

The version numbers above are the thresholds published by Acorn TV’s help center; they are not a guarantee that every old handset, television firmware build, or regional app store will still install the app. Keep the device software current and check the app store listing if installation is refused.
Do you need a Fire TV Stick?
No. A Fire TV Stick is one optional way to add Acorn TV to a television, but Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast, supported smart TVs, and a computer connected to the television are other routes. Buy a streaming stick only when your existing television and devices do not already support the app. Acorn TV lists Fire TV Stick support at the category level; this guide does not claim that a particular generation was tested or that every model is guaranteed indefinitely.
How to subscribe directly to Acorn TV
- Open the official signup flow and select your country. The available plan, currency, trial message, and payment terms can depend on this selection.
- Choose monthly or annual billing. Compare the displayed recurring amount rather than relying on an old promotion or a search-result snippet.
- Enter an email address you can access and create the account credentials requested by Acorn TV.
- Review the trial language, renewal date, taxes, cancellation terms, and billing country. The billing address must match the country where the service is being watched.
- Submit payment and sign in on the device you intend to use first.
- Open the account or subscription area and note the renewal date. If you do not want to continue after a trial or billing period, cancel through the same billing route before renewal.
For the service’s current signup instructions, use How do I subscribe? The checkout page is the authoritative source for the offer you actually receive.
Prime Video channel versus the Acorn TV Fire TV app
There are two different ways to watch through Amazon hardware and services. The Acorn TV add-on subscription inside Prime Video is a channel subscription for Prime members. The Acorn TV app installed on Fire TV is a separate app and does not require a Prime membership.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →| Question | Prime Video add-on | Acorn TV app on Fire TV |

| Membership and watchlist sync | Does not sync with the standalone Fire TV app | Does not sync with the Prime Video add-on |
| Best fit | Viewers who want one Prime Video billing and viewing interface | Viewers who do not have Prime or want a direct Acorn TV account |
The important practical distinction is account continuity. If you subscribe through Prime Video, signing into the standalone Acorn TV app does not transfer the membership or watchlist, and the reverse is also true. Decide which interface you want before paying, particularly if you have already built a watchlist.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
When comparing the two checkout screens, compare the current price, trial language, renewal date, taxes, cancellation path, and device experience shown by that provider. A Prime membership may already be useful for other reasons, but it is not required for the Fire TV app. The official explanation is available at Acorn TV’s Prime/add-on help page.
How to watch on a television
Using a supported smart TV
- Connect the television to the internet and install any pending system updates.
- Open the television’s app store and search for Acorn TV.
- Install the official app, open it, and sign in with the Acorn TV account used for the subscription.
- Search for a title and confirm that its episode page offers playback in your location.
Samsung support in the published list starts at Tizen model year 2017 in the US, UK, New Zealand, Australia, and Canada. A television outside those markets or below that model year may need another playback route.
Using Roku, Fire TV, or Apple TV
- Connect the streaming device to an HDMI port and complete its internet and account setup.
- Open the device’s app store and install Acorn TV.
- Sign in with the correct account. If you used the Prime Video add-on, open it through Prime Video rather than assuming the standalone app will recognize it.
- Play a short section of a title before settling in. This confirms that the app, network, and account are all working.
Using Chromecast
- Put the phone, tablet, or computer and Chromecast on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Open Acorn TV in the supported app or browser and start a title.
- Use the cast control, select the Chromecast, and keep the sending device available for playback controls.
If the cast icon does not appear, verify that both devices are on the same network, disable guest Wi-Fi isolation, and update the app or browser.
Using a computer and television cable
On a PC or Mac, open Acorn TV in a current browser; Chrome is the recommended browser in the compatibility guidance. Connect the computer to the television with a suitable HDMI adapter or cable, select the matching television input, and play from the browser. This is a useful fallback when the television app is unavailable, but picture quality and controls depend on the computer, cable, and browser.
Watching on phones and tablets
iPhone and iPad support is listed for iOS 15 and later. Android phones and tablets are listed from Android 4.2 onward. Install the official app from the device’s app store, sign in to the account that owns the subscription, and test playback over Wi-Fi before relying on cellular data.
Older operating systems may be unable to install the current app even when they once supported an earlier release. Updating the operating system is the first fix; if the hardware cannot update, use a supported television or computer instead.
Offline viewing and changing titles
Offline playback is conditional, not universal. AMC Networks’ terms say that certain content may be temporarily downloadable on certain supported devices and subscriptions, subject to device, geographic, expiration, and other limits: read the current terms.
Before a flight or commute, open the individual title in the mobile app and look for a download control. If it is absent, that title, device, region, or plan may not support a download. Start the download while online, check that it appears in the app’s downloads area, and play it once before leaving coverage. Downloads can expire or disappear when rights change, so do not treat them as permanent copies.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
The same terms explain that content may change and may not be available in every region. A watchlist is therefore a planning aid, not a guarantee that an episode will remain playable.
Choosing the right setup: a quick decision framework
- You already own a supported smart TV: install the app first; purchasing a streaming stick may add no value.
- Your TV is older but has HDMI: use a supported Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, or Chromecast rather than replacing the television.
- You have Prime and want one interface: compare the Prime Video add-on at checkout, remembering that it creates a separate membership and watchlist from the standalone app.
- You do not have Prime: subscribe directly and use the standalone Fire TV app or another supported device.
- You watch mainly on a laptop: use the PC/Mac website with Chrome recommended; a streaming device is optional.
- You need offline viewing: verify the download icon on each title and device before depending on it.
- You are subscribing for one specific show: search while signed in from your country and confirm every required season is playable before choosing an annual plan.
Common problems and practical fixes
The app cannot be installed
Check the device category and operating-system threshold against Acorn TV’s current compatibility page. Update the television, streaming device, phone, or tablet, then restart it and try the app store again. On Samsung televisions, confirm that the model is from 2017 or later and that you are in one of the markets named in the support list.
The subscription is not recognized
Confirm that you are using the same email address and sign-in method used at checkout. If you subscribed as a Prime Video channel, open Acorn TV through Prime Video; the standalone app will not inherit that membership. If you subscribed directly, use the Acorn TV account rather than a different Amazon profile.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →A title is missing
Check the country selected for the account and search the title while signed in. Licensing can differ by region, and Acorn TV’s terms allow the catalog to change. A missing title is not necessarily an app fault.
Playback buffers or stops
- Run a speed test near the television or mobile device and pause other heavy downloads.
- Restart the app, device, and home router.
- Install pending app and operating-system updates.
- If casting, place the sender and Chromecast on the same Wi-Fi network and avoid an isolated guest network.
- Try the same account in a current browser or another supported device to separate an account problem from a device problem.
Billing continues after a trial
The trial converts to the selected paid plan unless canceled under the applicable terms. Check the subscription page or the billing provider used at checkout, note the renewal date, and complete cancellation there. Removing the app does not itself cancel a subscription.
Is Acorn TV worth it?
Acorn TV is worth considering when your priority is a concentrated supply of mysteries and suspense-led drama and you are comfortable checking the changing, region-specific catalog. The direct US/Canada prices currently make the annual plan cheaper than paying twelve displayed monthly installments, but the annual commitment is sensible only when the available lineup supports a year of viewing for you.
It is a weaker fit if you want a broad all-purpose service, rely on a title that is not confirmed in your country, need guaranteed downloads for every program, or expect one watchlist to follow you between a Prime Video channel and the standalone app. In those cases, verify the exact title, device, and account route first.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use Acorn TV without Amazon Prime?
Yes. The standalone Acorn TV app on Fire TV does not require Prime membership. Prime is required for the separate Acorn TV add-on inside Prime Video.
