For a 65-inch PC gaming TV, start with the display mode you want your PC to deliver: 4K at 120Hz or higher is a useful target for modern gaming, but confirm that the exact TV model and HDMI input support that combination. Then check VRR compatibility with your graphics card, the number of high-bandwidth HDMI inputs, and whether the screen will also serve as a desktop display. No single model is best for every room, PC, or region.
What matters most when choosing a 65-inch gaming TV?
A gaming TV’s headline refresh rate is only one part of the match. Resolution, input support, GPU compatibility, latency, room conditions, and desktop text clarity all affect how useful a set will be for a PC.
- Resolution and refresh rate: Check the supported combination, such as 4K at 120Hz or 4K at 165Hz—not just the maximum refresh number in isolation.
- HDMI bandwidth and port count: Confirm which inputs support the desired resolution and refresh rate. Count the ports you will need for a PC, console, receiver, and other devices.
- VRR and GPU compatibility: Verify support for the variable-refresh technology compatible with your graphics card, and enable it on both the TV and PC where required.
- Game-mode features: ALLM can switch the TV into a lower-latency mode; check the model’s supported gaming modes and input-lag evidence rather than assuming the label guarantees a particular result.
- Room and desktop use: Bright-room performance and reflections matter for daytime play. If you will read small text or use the TV as a desktop monitor, consider subpixel layout and text rendering as well as picture quality.
HDMI 2.1 is a useful specification to look for, but it does not by itself establish which resolution and refresh combinations an input supports. TechRadar’s 65-inch TV guide recommends checking HDMI 2.1, VRR, ALLM, low input lag, and HDMI port count; RTINGS’ PC-use guide illustrates why the number of full-bandwidth inputs and desktop text behavior also deserve attention.

Refresh rate sets the display’s supported ceiling; variable refresh rate (VRR) helps the screen track changing game frame rates within its supported range. Neither feature guarantees that a game will run at the TV’s maximum refresh. The graphics card, game, connection, input, resolution, cable, and settings all affect the result.

Check the exact TV model and the specific HDMI input you plan to use. Then confirm the PC supports the same mode and VRR standard. Samsung says its G-SYNC compatibility requires a compatible NVIDIA graphics card and may require VRR settings to be enabled both on the TV and in the GPU driver. AMD describes FreeSync as a technology for reducing choppy gameplay and broken frames, and provides a certified-device list. That list is dynamic and includes older products, so use it to check a particular model rather than as a complete current shopping guide.
65-inch models to compare for PC gaming
The models below illustrate different refresh targets and practical trade-offs. Specifications are model- and region-dependent; verify the full local model number and its input capabilities before buying.
| Model | Gaming specification cited | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|
| LG OLED evo AI G6, 65-inch | LG UK describes up to 4K 165Hz, G-SYNC compatibility, AMD FreeSync Premium, VRR, ALLM, and a 0.1ms pixel response time. LG Canada lists OLED65G6SUB with 120Hz native refresh and VRR up to 165Hz. | Manufacturer claims, not independent latency testing. The UK OLED65G64LW and Canadian OLED65G6SUB are different regional suffixes; confirm the local SKU and input specifications. |
| Samsung 2026 OLED family | Samsung lists up to 165Hz for S95H and S90H, and up to 120Hz for S85H. It says 4K 165Hz depends on a PC game supporting the specification and a suitable graphics card. | Confirm the exact 65-inch regional SKU. Samsung’s stated FreeSync Premium Pro coverage applies to S95H and S90H in 55–83-inch sizes; S85H and 42- or 48-inch S90H use FreeSync Premium. |
| TCL QM7L | RTINGS reports a 144Hz native refresh specification and RGB subpixels in its PC-use guide. | RTINGS notes that only two inputs support HDMI 2.1 bandwidth. Its review also reports picture-quality, motion-blur, and ghosting trade-offs relative to the LG C6; these are findings for the models it assessed. |
| Sony K-65XR90 | Sony lists HDMI 4K signal support at 120Hz and dedicated FPS and RTS game picture modes. | A useful 4K/120 comparison point; the cited Sony specifications do not establish 4K/165 support. |

Will you use the TV as a desktop display?
Do not infer desktop suitability from OLED or Mini LED alone. Panel subpixel layout can affect the sharpness of text, while room reflections and brightness influence comfort in a bright workspace.
In its PC-use guide, RTINGS says the LG C6’s RWBG subpixel layout can leave text less than perfectly clear, while the TCL QM7L’s RGB layout produces clearer text in its assessment. These are model-specific review findings, not a rule that applies to every OLED or Mini LED TV. The same guide discusses OLED glare and text considerations, but does not establish an individual user’s burn-in outcome. If you plan to display static desktop elements for long periods, treat that as a separate use case to assess rather than assuming the gaming review answers it.
Choosing for room light and connection needs
Bright rooms and reflections
TechRadar’s 2026 65-inch guide presents the Samsung QN90F as a bright-room option and notes its anti-reflection screen. That is a model-specific recommendation, not a guarantee that reflections will disappear in every room. Consider where windows and lights sit relative to the screen, and look for review evidence tied to the exact model.

It does not provide test conditions here that would establish these as directly comparable laboratory results, so do not use the numbers alone to rank models.

More than one connected device
List every device that will stay connected before choosing. A TV with a high refresh rate can still be inconvenient if too few inputs support the bandwidth needed for your PC and other sources. RTINGS reports that only two TCL QM7L inputs support HDMI 2.1 bandwidth; check the port layout on any candidate, not just its total HDMI count.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the published input-lag figure does—and does not—tell you
TechRadar reports 9.5ms input lag for the Samsung QN90F in its 2026 65-inch guide. Treat that as the guide’s reviewer measurement, not a universal value across all picture modes, signal formats, or settings. The cited information does not provide test conditions sufficient to compare it as a standardized result with other models.
Quick Recap
A practical shortlist process
- Set your target mode. Decide whether 4K/120Hz meets your needs or whether you want to investigate a higher refresh target such as 4K/144Hz or 4K/165Hz.
- Check the exact model and input. Use the manufacturer’s specifications for your regional SKU to verify the resolution-and-refresh combination on the HDMI input you will use.
- Match VRR to your PC. Check the TV’s G-SYNC or FreeSync support against your GPU and enable the required settings on both devices.
- Audit your connections. Count the HDMI inputs that support the required bandwidth and compare that number with the devices you intend to leave connected.
- Account for the room and desktop work. Consider reflections and ambient light, and look for specific evidence about text clarity if the TV will also display desktop apps.
- Check local availability and terms. Confirm regional model suffix, current price, stock, and warranty for your market; the cited product information does not establish current local offers.
