The best 120Hz TV depends on what you watch, your room, and how many gaming devices you connect. For a shortlist, compare current examples such as the Samsung S90F OLED, LG C6 OLED, Hisense U7SG, and Hisense U65QF—but verify the exact size and regional version. Before choosing, confirm the TV’s native refresh rate, supported resolution-and-refresh modes on its HDMI inputs, and whether it has the gaming and picture features you need.
What a 120Hz TV does—and who benefits
A 120Hz panel can refresh its image up to 120 times per second. That matters most when a source sends high-frame-rate content: compatible consoles can offer games at up to 120 frames per second, and fast-moving sports can benefit from smoother motion. A 120Hz label alone does not prove that a TV accepts a 4K signal at 120Hz; check the supported input modes for the specific model and HDMI port.
For gaming, refresh rate is only one part of the experience. Variable refresh rate (VRR) can match the display’s refresh to changing game frame rates and help reduce tearing. Input lag and pixel response time also affect how responsive and clear gameplay feels. RTINGS discusses these factors in its gaming-TV guide.

|---|---|---|
| Samsung S90F OLED | 3,840 × 2,160 resolution; 120Hz native refresh rate, up to 144Hz; four HDMI 2.1 ports | Worth comparing if you want OLED and several high-bandwidth inputs. Confirm the exact size and regional version. |
| LG C6 OLED 2026 | RTINGS lists it as a 120Hz-class TV with four HDMI 2.1 ports supporting up to 4K at 165Hz | An OLED gaming example below a flagship tier; pricing and availability can change. |
| Hisense U7SG | RTINGS lists four high-bandwidth ports supporting 4K at 120Hz | A gaming-focused comparison example for a more constrained budget; check local variants. |
| Hisense U65QF | Tom’s Guide lists 144Hz, two HDMI 2.1 ports, two HDMI 2.0 ports, and sizes from 55 to 100 inches | Illustrates why the number of HDMI sockets is not the same as the number of full-bandwidth inputs. |
Specifications and recommendations are reported by Tom’s Guide’s HDMI 2.1 TV guide, RTINGS’ 120Hz TV guide, and RTINGS’ gaming-TV guide. Use them as a starting point, then check the manufacturer’s specifications for the exact model sold in your region.
How to choose the right 120Hz TV
Confirm the refresh rate and signal mode
Look for a native panel refresh rate of 120Hz or higher, then confirm that the TV accepts your intended resolution and refresh rate over the input you will use. A TV may support a higher refresh rate only with certain PC signal formats or at lower resolutions. Interpolated motion figures do not establish that a TV can receive a 4K 120Hz signal.

Count capable HDMI ports, not just sockets
Check how many inputs support the bandwidth and features required by your sources. Some TVs have a mix of higher-bandwidth and HDMI 2.0 ports. Also account for the HDMI port used for eARC audio if you plan to connect a sound system that way; it may reduce the number of ports available for other devices.
Compare gaming features separately
- VRR: Check for the format supported by your source and TV, such as HDMI Forum VRR, FreeSync, or G-SYNC.
- Input lag: This affects how quickly on-screen actions respond to controller input.
- Response time: This affects how quickly pixels change and how clearly moving objects appear.
These features complement a high refresh rate; none is a substitute for confirming the TV’s supported input mode.

Match panel and picture performance to the room
OLED is a candidate if deep blacks and off-axis viewing are priorities. QLED and Mini LED LCD options can also suit buyers who prioritize brightness and color. Those panel labels do not guarantee equal performance across models: compare measured brightness, reflection handling, and viewing angles for the specific TV and room. Samsung’s 2026 lineup guide and sports-TV guide offer manufacturer context, but model-specific performance should guide the decision.
Choose a size that fits your seating and space
Measure viewing distance and check the room’s layout, wall, and furniture limits before selecting a screen size. Samsung’s US sports-TV guide suggests multiplying viewing distance in inches by 1.2 to estimate a diagonal for a 40-degree field of view. This is manufacturer guidance rather than a universal sizing requirement; personal preference and the room matter.

Compare like with like before buying
Prices, stock, warranty terms, and model names can differ by region and screen size. Compare the same size and regional version, and check current retailer and manufacturer information before making a decision. A certified Ultra High Speed HDMI cable may be needed for some high-bandwidth setups, but whether you need one depends on the source, resolution, refresh mode, and cable you already have.

Which type of buyer should prioritize what?
- PS5, Xbox, or Switch 2 gaming: Confirm the console’s desired output is supported by the TV input, then compare VRR, input lag, response time, and the number of capable HDMI ports.
- PC gaming: Check which refresh rates and resolutions the TV accepts with your graphics card and connection; some higher-rate modes may be limited to particular signal formats.
- Sports in a bright room: Prioritize motion performance, brightness, and reflection handling, then choose a size that suits your seating distance and room.
- Movies or mixed viewing: Compare black levels, viewing angles, brightness, and the kinds of content you watch rather than choosing on refresh rate alone.
