A TV is only a genuine under-$1,000 pick when the exact screen size is currently listed at that price in your region—and its specifications confirm the refresh rate and gaming features you need. The available manufacturer information does not verify a current U.S. shortlist at or below $1,000, so this guide focuses on how to check candidates without mistaking a technical example for a price-checked recommendation.
How to verify a 120Hz TV before buying
Check the manufacturer’s specifications for the exact model code and screen size, then confirm the current price of that same version from a U.S. retailer. A product-family name alone may not identify the panel or features you will receive: specifications can differ between sizes in the same lineup.
- Match the full model and size. Open the manufacturer’s product page or specification sheet for the exact screen size you intend to buy. Check size-specific notes rather than assuming every model in the family has identical capabilities.
- Find the native refresh rate. Look for a stated native refresh rate, such as 120Hz. Do not treat motion-rate branding as proof of native refresh performance. For example, Hisense’s sheet for the 2022 U75H series describes native 120Hz separately from “480 motion rate”; that dated example illustrates the terminology distinction, not a current recommendation. - Confirm 4K at 120Hz on the inputs you plan to use. A 120Hz panel specification by itself does not establish that a particular input accepts a 4K/120Hz signal. Check the input-specific feature list for your intended console or PC connection.
- Check gaming features individually. Look for VRR (variable refresh rate) and ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) if you need them. Confirm that the specifications apply to the exact model and relevant input; do not infer support from the brand or product family.
- Check the current, exact-size price. Verify the U.S. listing, seller, stock, promotion terms, and any material delivery charges. A model that meets the technical requirements is not automatically within budget.
What the manufacturer examples establish
LG QNED85AUA, 55-inch (2025): a technical example, not a verified U.S. deal
LG Canada lists the 55-inch QNED85AUA as a 4K QNED MiniLED TV with native 120Hz and support for 4K/120Hz, VRR, ALLM, and QMS (Quick Media Switching) among its HDMI features. LG’s size notes distinguish the 55- and 50-inch versions, which support 120Hz, from larger listed sizes, which support up to 144Hz. This is a useful illustration of why the exact size matters, but the Canadian page does not establish a current U.S. price. LG also notes that prices and availability vary by model and retailer.
