Belkin ConnectAir AVC024 is a convenient two-piece wireless HDMI system for sending video from a compatible USB-C laptop, tablet or phone to an HDMI television or monitor. It is easy to install because the transmitter and receiver connect directly, without a Wi-Fi network, Bluetooth pairing or driver. The trade-off is fundamental: output tops out at 1080p at 60Hz, not 4K, and reliability depends on placement and a reasonably clear path between the two units. That makes ConnectAir a sensible meeting-room, classroom and casual-viewing accessory, but a poor choice when you require 4K, competitive-gaming latency or dependable operation through a television and other obstacles.

What Belkin ConnectAir AVC024 is

ConnectAir AVC024 replaces a long video cable with a dedicated wireless link. The kit contains a USB-C transmitter for the source device and an HDMI receiver for the display. You plug the transmitter into a USB-C port that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode, then connect the receiver to an HDMI input on a television, monitor or projector. Once both ends have power, the system establishes its own connection.

This is not screen casting over your home network. Belkin says the adapter needs no Wi-Fi network, Bluetooth connection or driver installation. Your laptop or mobile device treats the transmitter as a direct display connection, while the receiver presents a normal HDMI signal to the screen. That distinction matters in offices, schools and hotels where joining a network may be restricted or inconvenient.

The model is designed for laptops, tablets and smartphones running Windows, macOS or Chrome OS, provided the USB-C port can output video. A USB-C connector by itself is not enough: many charging-only ports cannot drive an external display. Check the exact specification for your computer or phone for “DisplayPort Alt Mode,” “USB-C video output” or an equivalent external-display feature before buying.

Key specifications and what they mean

Specification Belkin’s stated figure or requirement How to interpret it
Maximum output Up to 1,920 × 1,080 at 60Hz Suitable for Full HD presentations, video and general desktop work; not a 4K adapter.
Advertised range Up to 131 feet (40 metres) A maximum claim, not a guaranteed distance in every room. Walls, furniture and the television itself can reduce reliability.
Advertised latency Below 80ms Belkin says latency varies with the connected laptop and monitor. Expect a convenience link rather than a low-latency gaming connection.
Source connection USB-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode Confirm video capability on the specific laptop, tablet or phone; USB-C shape alone does not establish compatibility.
Display connection HDMI receiver Works with a display that has a compatible HDMI input and a way to power the receiver.
Network or software No Wi-Fi network, Bluetooth pairing or driver required Useful in managed networks and temporary setups because there is no account or network configuration step.
US price listed by Belkin $149.99 Price shown on Belkin’s US product page at the time of the cited information; check current regional pricing and stock.
Warranty listed by Belkin Two years The term shown for the US product listing; regional warranty terms can differ.

The range, resolution and latency figures are manufacturer specifications, not universal test results. In particular, “up to 40 metres” should not be read as a promise that every television will maintain a stable link at that distance.

Will ConnectAir work with your USB-C laptop, tablet or phone?

Check for DisplayPort Alt Mode

Look up the exact model of your source device and verify that its USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode or external video output. On a laptop, the manufacturer’s port diagram or technical specifications usually identifies this. On a tablet or phone, the support page may describe wired display output, desktop mode or USB-C DisplayPort support. If the documentation only lists charging and data transfer, assume the port cannot drive ConnectAir.

Confirm the operating-system and display requirements

Belkin lists Windows, Mac and Chrome OS compatibility for laptops and support for compatible tablets and smartphones. The receiving screen needs an available HDMI input. A television’s USB port may power the receiver, but not every television supplies enough power; have an appropriate USB power source available if the display’s port is unsuitable.

Understand what compatibility does not guarantee

A supported operating system and a video-capable USB-C port establish a basic connection, not a guaranteed picture in every application. Protected content can invoke HDCP behavior, and a particular laptop-monitor combination can affect latency. Belkin’s support index includes a guide titled “How To Fix a Black Screen or HDCP Error When Playing 4K Content (AVC024),” which is relevant when a protected stream or display handshake fails. The adapter itself still outputs no more than 1080p at 60Hz.

How to install Belkin ConnectAir

  1. Verify the source port. Confirm that the USB-C port on your laptop, tablet or phone supports DisplayPort Alt Mode. Disconnect other docks or display adapters while testing so you know which device is providing the signal.
  2. Connect the receiver to the display. Insert the receiver into an HDMI input on the television, monitor or projector. Select that HDMI input with the display’s remote or front-panel controls.
  3. Provide receiver power. Use the receiver’s USB power connection and a suitable USB power source. A television may have a convenient USB-A socket, but a separate source can be needed when the set lacks an available or adequately powered port.
  4. Attach the transmitter. Plug the USB-C transmitter into the source device’s video-capable USB-C port. The transmitter and receiver are intended to connect directly; no Wi-Fi credentials, Bluetooth menu or application installation is required.
  5. Wait for the display handshake. Give the screen a moment to detect the HDMI signal. If the image does not appear, confirm that the display is on the correct HDMI input and that both units have power.
  6. Set the source to a sensible mode. Select 1,920 × 1,080 at 60Hz when your operating system offers manual display settings. If you are extending the desktop, choose the operating system’s extend-display option; for a duplicate presentation, choose mirror or duplicate.
  7. Position both ends for the room. Keep the receiver and transmitter where the television and surrounding furniture do not block the direct path. If the display is wall-mounted, a side-facing HDMI input can provide a better position than a recessed rear port.

Belkin’s support index provides resources named “How to Connect Your Laptop to a TV or Monitor with ConnectAir” and “How to Connect Your Mobile Phone to a TV or Monitor with ConnectAir.” Those guides are the appropriate place to check model-specific setup diagrams and troubleshooting instructions.

Picture quality, latency and range in practical use

1080p at 60Hz is the ceiling

ConnectAir is a Full HD wireless adapter. Independent hands-on reports describe usable 1080p/60Hz viewing, but neither the product specification nor those reports establish a 4K mode. If your workflow depends on a 3,840 × 2,160 desktop, 4K presentation detail or a 4K television receiving a native 4K signal, this model does not meet that requirement. A wired HDMI connection or a wireless product specifically designed and tested for 4K is a more appropriate direction to investigate.

Latency is acceptable for ordinary viewing

Belkin advertises latency below 80ms and cautions that it varies with the laptop and monitor connection. That level can be unobtrusive for slides, web video and casual streaming, but it is not equivalent to a direct cable for timing-sensitive games, musical instruments or interactive demonstrations. The manufacturer’s qualification is important: the number is not a promise that every source and screen will behave identically.

What the independent reports found

Alfred Siew’s Techgoondu hands-on report, published September 8, 2026, describes connecting the receiver and transmitter without Bluetooth or Wi-Fi pairing. He used a Windows laptop and a Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, observed smooth YouTube playback and streamed audio, and did not test the complete 40-metre range claim. He notes the receiver’s HDMI connection and USB-A power connection and says a separate power source may be necessary when a television lacks a suitable port.

Ed Hardy’s Cult of Mac hands-on report, published February 5, 2026, found usable 1080p/60Hz viewing and successful operation with the components 30–40 feet apart in his test. He also saw occasional signal drops when the receiver sat behind a television that blocked the path. Moving the units so that ports were on the side of the television and the components had clearer line of sight improved performance. Those are room-specific observations, not a universal range or failure-rate measurement.

Placement: will it work if the receiver is behind the TV?

It may, but the available evidence says you should not assume it will. In the Cult of Mac test, the television itself obstructed the receiver-to-transmitter path and intermittent drops occurred. Side-facing ports and a clearer line of sight improved the connection. A wall-mounted set, a deep cabinet, metal equipment and crowded furniture can create a similar problem.

Best placement practices

  • Use a side HDMI input when the rear of the television is recessed or faces a wall.
  • Keep the receiver visible or at least clear of the television’s body and nearby metal objects.
  • Place the source device so its transmitter is not pressed against a desk, dock or other radio-obstructing object.
  • For a long room, start at a short distance and move the source gradually until you find the stable limit rather than assuming the full 131-foot specification.
  • If drops begin after the television is repositioned, restore the earlier placement before changing software settings.

Troubleshooting a blank screen or unstable connection

No image at all

  1. Confirm that the television or monitor is set to the HDMI input containing the receiver.
  2. Check power to the receiver and transmitter. If the receiver is powered from the television, try a separate suitable USB source.
  3. Move the receiver to a side-facing HDMI port or a position with fewer obstructions.
  4. Verify that the source USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode; try another confirmed video-capable port if the device has one.
  5. Restart the source device with the transmitter disconnected, then reconnect it after the operating system has loaded.

Picture appears, then drops

Intermittent drops are more likely to be a placement or path problem than a missing driver, because ConnectAir is designed to work without one. Reduce the distance, clear the area behind the television and test with both units in line of sight. If stability returns, the room layout was limiting the link. If drops continue at short range, test another HDMI input and another USB power source.

Black screen or HDCP message

Check the display input and source resolution first. Protected video can fail during an HDCP handshake, and Belkin’s support index specifically lists a black-screen or HDCP-error guide for 4K content. Because AVC024 is a 1080p device, forcing a 4K output mode is not a solution; set the source to a supported 1080p mode and follow Belkin’s documented HDCP steps.

ConnectAir versus a wired HDMI solution

Decision factor ConnectAir AVC024 Wired HDMI or USB-C-to-HDMI
Maximum resolution Up to 1080p at 60Hz Depends on the cable, adapter and devices; 4K-capable wired setups are available.
Setup Plug in two units; no network, Bluetooth pairing or driver. Plug in one cable or adapter; usually the fewest active components.
Cable clutter Removes the long video cable between source and screen, though both ends still need local power or connections. Requires a physical run between the source and display.
Mobility Lets the presenter move within the wireless link’s usable area. Source must remain within cable length or use an extension.
Obstacles Placement and line of sight can affect reliability; a television can obstruct the path. Not affected by wireless path obstruction, but cable routing can be inconvenient.
Latency consistency Belkin says it is below 80ms and varies with the connected equipment. Generally more predictable for timing-sensitive work, subject to the chosen hardware.
Cost Belkin’s US listing shows $149.99 at the cited time. Varies widely by cable and adapter; compare the complete required setup.

Choose ConnectAir when the value of moving freely or avoiding a long cable outweighs the 1080p limit and placement sensitivity. Choose a wired arrangement when you need 4K, the most predictable response, or operation through walls and furniture. A different wireless adapter may be worth investigating for mandatory 4K, but the available evidence does not provide a controlled head-to-head comparison with competing models.

Best uses and poor fits

Good fits

  • Meeting rooms: A presenter can connect a compatible laptop without asking for the room’s Wi-Fi credentials.
  • Classrooms and training spaces: The instructor can move around while sending a Full HD desktop or video feed to the main display.
  • Temporary installations: Events, hotel rooms and shared offices benefit from avoiding a permanent long cable.
  • Casual television viewing: Smooth 1080p playback, including the YouTube use reported by Techgoondu, suits ordinary streaming.
  • Phone demonstrations: A compatible USB-C phone can show its screen on an HDMI display without a casting app or network setup.

Poor fits

  • 4K production or presentation: The adapter’s maximum is 1080p/60Hz.
  • Competitive gaming: The advertised sub-80ms latency and equipment-dependent behavior are not aimed at low-latency play.
  • Rooms where the receiver must stay behind the television: The obstruction observed in testing can cause drops.
  • Devices with charging-only USB-C ports: The transmitter needs DisplayPort Alt Mode video output.
  • Installations requiring a guaranteed 40-metre link: The range is an “up to” claim, and the full distance was not independently tested in the cited reports.

Price, warranty and regional availability

Belkin’s US product page lists ConnectAir AVC024 at $149.99 and includes a two-year warranty. Those details are tied to the US listing and can change with date, retailer and region; verify the price, stock and warranty terms before ordering.

Belkin Japan announced on April 28, 2026 that the adapter would be sold through Japanese electronics retailers and Amazon.co.jp from that date. That announcement establishes the Japanese launch channel, not current US marketplace stock or a particular affiliate listing. Availability should therefore be checked for the country where you intend to buy.

Pros and limitations

Strengths Limitations
Direct setup without Wi-Fi, Bluetooth pairing or drivers. 1080p/60Hz maximum; no 4K output.
Works with compatible Windows, Mac and Chrome OS computers plus supported mobile devices. USB-C must support DisplayPort Alt Mode.
Removes the long cable between presenter and screen. Receiver and transmitter placement affect reliability.
Independent reports found smooth ordinary video and 30–40-foot operation in one test. Advertised 131-foot range was not fully tested; obstructions caused drops in one review.
Belkin lists a two-year US warranty. $149.99 US list price is high if a simple wired cable already meets your needs.

Verdict: who should buy Belkin ConnectAir?

Buy ConnectAir AVC024 if you want a quick, network-independent way to mirror or extend a compatible USB-C device to an HDMI screen and you are comfortable with 1080p. It is particularly practical for meetings, classrooms and casual viewing where a long cable is the main nuisance. Plan the receiver’s position rather than hiding it behind the television, and verify USB-C video support before purchase.

Skip it for a 4K requirement, competitive gaming, a guaranteed 40-metre installation or a room where the receiver cannot have a reasonably clear path. In those situations, a wired HDMI arrangement is the safer baseline; investigate a 4K-specific wireless product only after confirming its tested resolution, latency and obstacle performance.
