Yes: Linux can run on the Beelink EQi 304’s Intel Core 3 304 and use its mix of one performance core and four efficiency cores. A published Ubuntu 26.04 test ran on the mini PC with Linux 7.0 and 7.1. That confirms Linux compatibility in the tested setup, but it does not prove that every distribution always assigns latency-sensitive work to the fast core or that performance matches Windows in every task.
What the EQi 304’s “one fast core” means
The Intel Core 3 304 has five cores: one performance core (P-core) and four efficiency cores (E-cores), according to the CNX Software review and Intel’s processor specification. Intel lists a maximum frequency of up to 4.30 GHz and 6 MB of cache. The maximum frequency is not a promise that the P-core will sustain that speed during a long workload.
The distinction matters because “make proper use” can refer to different things: whether Linux runs at all, whether it adjusts processor performance, and whether it places a particular thread on a suitable core. Those are related, but they are not the same question.

Frequency scaling adjusts performance state
Linux’s CPUFreq subsystem combines a core framework, scaling governors that estimate how much capacity is needed, and scaling drivers that communicate with supported hardware. Scheduler utilization updates can inform frequency decisions. This is the mechanism for requesting an appropriate performance state; it does not by itself guarantee that a particular application thread runs on the P-core. See the Linux kernel CPUFreq documentation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Task placement is a separate decision
The scheduler decides where runnable work executes. Linux kernel documentation says that Intel Hardware Feedback Interface (HFI) information can influence task placement decisions. HFI supplies performance and energy capability information, but the EQi 304 review does not verify that HFI is enabled or operating on this specific system. It should therefore be treated as a documented possible mechanism, not a confirmed EQi 304 feature. See the Linux kernel Intel HFI documentation.
Even with suitable support, “influence” is not a guarantee that every latency-sensitive thread will always run on the P-core. Placement and observed speed can depend on kernel, firmware, configuration, workload, and available power and thermal headroom. Linux documentation notes that thermal or power limits can prevent a processor from sustaining its maximum capacity.

What the Ubuntu test on this mini PC demonstrated
CNX Software reported installing Ubuntu 26.04 LTS on the EQi 304 and running Linux 7.0.0-27, with additional testing on Linux 7.0 and 7.1. Ubuntu was installed on an added 256 GB NVMe SSD in an M.2 slot while Windows remained on the built-in UFS storage. The review identified the five-core Core 3 304 and reported working graphics, wired networking, Wi-Fi, storage, and installation in that setup. This is practical evidence that Linux can boot and run on the model; it is not a controlled CPU comparison across operating systems.

The same review described good single-threaded performance and strong wired networking, but also reported system-specific issues. Under the reviewer’s test conditions, Ubuntu Wi-Fi throughput was about 800 Mbps, approximately half the Windows result. YouTube playback at 4K/60 and 8K/30 sometimes stuttered; 8K/60 was not playable, while 4K/30 was consistently smooth. The reviewer also could not use a Khadas Mind Graphics 2 NVIDIA dock, and Firefox’s default Snap package failed to launch; installing Firefox through apt was the reported workaround. These observations belong to that software and device setup, and graphics, networking, video decoding, docks, and packaging problems do not establish a CPU scheduling failure. Details are in the CNX Software Ubuntu 26.04 review.

What you can expect from different workloads
- Mostly single-threaded work: A task that cannot use several cores may benefit from a fast P-core. The topology makes that possibility relevant, but no cited test isolates P-core placement or proves that every application receives it.
- Parallel work: A workload with several runnable threads may use the E-cores as well as the P-core. Its result depends on how well the application parallelizes and on operating conditions; the core count alone does not predict its speed.
- Long or demanding loads: A headline maximum frequency is not a sustained-clock guarantee. Power and thermal limits can affect available capacity over time.
- Peripherals and media: Wi-Fi throughput, video playback, external graphics docks, and application launch behavior involve drivers, firmware, graphics or media support, and software packaging. They should be checked independently rather than used as proof that Linux chose the wrong CPU core.
How to judge support for your own setup
Use the published Ubuntu result as evidence of one working configuration, not a promise for every Linux installation. If core placement or performance matters for your workload, compare the exact software and hardware combination you intend to use. A useful assessment includes:
- Distribution, kernel version, firmware/BIOS, graphics stack, and relevant device drivers.
- Single-threaded and multi-threaded runs using the same benchmark version and conditions.
- Performance over a defined duration, with power and thermal conditions considered.
- Whether the application is serial or parallel, and per-core utilization or placement during the actual workload.
- Separate checks for user-facing needs such as Wi-Fi, video decoding, suspend, and external devices.
The CNX Software report does not provide a controlled, same-workload Linux-versus-Windows CPU test that isolates the P-core, nor does it show that a Linux scheduler misplaced work. A claim that Linux always uses the fast core optimally—or that this machine performs identically across operating systems—goes beyond the available evidence.
