Three flashes do not have one universal meaning across Beats products. The clearest documented case is Beats 360: three red flashes followed by the light turning off mean the battery is too low to turn on. Charge it for at least five minutes using a USB-C cable and compatible power adapter. For any other Beats model, identify the model and check the light’s color, location, and what the device is doing before diagnosing the pattern.
First, identify the Beats model and when the lights flash
The number of flashes alone is not enough to diagnose a problem. Beats models use different indicator patterns, and the same device can show different lights while charging, attempting to power on, or resetting.
- Identify the model: Check the product label, its Bluetooth device name, its packaging, or the Beats app if available.
- Note the pattern: Record the light color, how many lights appear, where they are, and whether the Beats are connected to power.
- Note the context: Was the device charging, being switched on, or in the middle of a reset? This can distinguish a normal status signal from a low-battery warning.
What three blinking lights mean on different Beats models
Apple’s support instructions document several distinct signals. These examples show why a three-flash description should not be applied to every Beats product.

| Model and context | Documented light pattern | Meaning or action |
|---|---|---|
| Beats 360, when trying to turn on | Three red flashes, then off | The battery is too low to turn on. Charge for at least five minutes with a USB-C cable and compatible power adapter. |
| Beats Flex, powered status | Blinking red | No listening time remains; charge the earphones. |
| Beats Solo 4, connected to power | Pulsing red; white at 95% or higher | The lights indicate charging, with white showing the documented high-charge state. |
| Beats Studio Pro, connected to power | Five fuel-gauge lights flash; all five stay lit when fully charged | The lights show charging progress and the fully charged state. |
| Beats Studio Pro, during reset | Five lights flash white, then one flashes red; the sequence repeats three times | This is the reset sequence. The device turns on automatically after the reset. |
Apple documents these patterns in its guides to charging Beats headphones, earphones, and speakers and resetting Beats. The documented behaviors are model-specific, not a universal code for three flashes.
#1 Best Overall
- BEATS’ CUSTOM ACOUSTIC PLATFORM delivers rich, immersive sound whether you’re listening to music or taking calls.
- HEAR WHAT YOU WANT with two distinct listening modes: personalized Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) and Transparency mode.
- MORE MUSIC, LESS CHARGING with up to 36 hours of listening time.
- ENHANCED COMPATIBILITY with one-touch pairing and a robust set of native Apple and Android features.
- FIND YOUR FIT with four pairs of silicone tip sizes to fit a wider range of ears. The tips create a comfortable seal for the best acoustic performance while keeping noise out.
If a Beats 360 flashes red three times and shuts off
Apple identifies this exact pattern as a battery too low to turn on. Connect the Beats 360 to a power outlet with a USB-C cable and compatible power adapter, and leave it charging for at least five minutes before trying to turn it on again.
That diagnosis applies to the Beats 360 pattern Apple describes—not automatically to three flashes on another Beats model. If the light color or behavior differs, use the charging or reset instructions for the exact product.

If the lights flash while charging
A flashing light during charging can be a normal battery-status signal. Check the charging behavior for your specific model rather than treating every flash as a fault. For instance, Solo 4 pulses red while charging and turns white at 95% or more; Studio Pro’s five fuel-gauge lights flash while charging and remain lit when fully charged.

If you need to reset Beats, use the exact model’s steps
Reset controls and hold times vary by model. Do not use another product’s button combination just because its lights look similar. Apple’s Reset Beats instructions give model-specific procedures. Examples include:
- Beats Studio Buds+: Hold the case system button for 15 seconds, until the light flashes red and white.
- Beats Solo 4: Hold the power and volume-down buttons for 10 seconds.
- Beats Studio Pro: Hold the system button for 10 seconds. During the reset, all five lights flash white, then one flashes red; this sequence happens three times.
If the reset does not resolve the problem, Apple recommends contacting Apple Support.
