Deutsche Bank strategist George Saravelos argues that investor pessimism about bonds has become excessive because markets may be underestimating a different risk: an AI-related shock that sends investors rushing toward bonds. That is a scenario he says markets are not pricing fully—not a prediction that an AI shock will happen or a recommendation to buy Treasury securities.
What Deutsche Bank’s strategist says
Bloomberg Law reported on October 9, 2026, that Saravelos, Deutsche Bank AG’s global head of FX research, believes the swing to deeply negative sentiment on fixed-income assets “has gone too far.” His counterpoint is that an AI-related blowup could prompt investors to seek bonds, a possibility he says markets are underpricing. The report provides no probability, timing, yield target, or price target for that scenario.
The report attributes a related observation to US client meetings: “Client meetings in the US displayed concerns that AI is a ‘big driver of higher yields and the US Treasury has lost control of the long-end,’ Saravelos, global head of FX research, said in a note Friday.” Those quoted phrases describe concerns raised in meetings; they are not established findings about AI’s effect on yields or Treasury control.

How the two AI-related bond scenarios differ
The report brings together two possible channels, not a single settled outlook. Investor concerns about AI and long-term Treasury supply could weigh on bonds, while an AI-related shock could lead investors to seek them. The report does not quantify either channel.

What the 20-year Treasury speculation means
