If Battlefield 6 is running below your target frame rate, start by lowering Undergrowth Quality, Effects Quality, Volumetric Quality, Lighting Quality, Local Light & Shadow Quality, Sun Shadow Quality, and Post Process Quality to Low. Electronic Arts identifies these as the less noticeable settings to reduce first. If performance is still insufficient, its fallback recommendation is to use the Low preset for everything. The official guide does not publish a measured FPS gain for any individual option, so treat the result as hardware- and resolution-dependent rather than a guaranteed percentage.
The seven settings to lower first
Open the game and use Settings > Graphics, then choose Modify beside Graphics. Change the following options to Low before sacrificing settings that are more obvious in normal play:

EA describes these seven choices as less noticeable than many other graphics options. They are therefore the sensible first pass when you want more performance without immediately making the whole game look like a lowest-quality preset.

- Record a baseline. Note your usual frame rate, the one-percent-low behavior if your overlay provides it, resolution, display mode and whether the slowdown occurs during combat, in dense outdoor areas or everywhere. A single peak FPS number is not enough to judge smoothness.
- Open the graphics editor. Go to Settings > Graphics > Modify.
- Set the seven EA-listed options to Low. Change Undergrowth Quality, Effects Quality, Volumetric Quality, Lighting Quality, Local Light & Shadow Quality, Sun Shadow Quality and Post Process Quality.
- Restart the same type of scenario. Use a comparable map area or match situation, because a quiet menu or empty corridor cannot represent a large multiplayer firefight.
- Use the full Low preset only if necessary. EA recommends trying everything on Low when the first group does not meet your goal. This changes options that may matter more to image quality, so raise individual settings again afterward if your frame-rate headroom allows it.
- Change one remaining option at a time. Keep notes and stop when you reach your practical target. Lowering every slider can make the game harder to read without solving a CPU or memory bottleneck.
The order above is a troubleshooting method, not a published benchmark procedure. EA provides the settings recommendation but does not provide per-setting frame-rate deltas.
Improve competitive visibility without claiming an FPS gain
Some options are worth changing because they make motion and targets easier to read, even when there is no controlled evidence that they add a specific number of frames.
Screen Space Reflections
Try turning Screen Space Reflections off if reflections distract you or hide targets. EA reports that some players find enemies easier to spot in buildings or through water with this option disabled. This is a visibility preference, not a guaranteed performance improvement.

For a clearer competitive view, lower World Motion Blur, lower Weapon Motion Blur and reduce Camera Shake Amount. These settings change the way movement and impacts are presented; they should not be described as measured FPS optimizations.

Chromatic aberration, vignette and film grain
Switch Chromatic Aberration, Vignette and Film Grain off if you prefer a clean image. Removing these effects can make edges and distant targets look less processed, but the official guidance does not quantify a frame-rate benefit.
Upscaling, anti-aliasing and frame generation
Battlefield 6 supports several hardware-dependent technologies. Electronic Arts’ August 28, 2025 PC feature article states support for Intel XeSS and AMD FSR for upscaling, frame generation, anti-aliasing and latency reduction. It also lists NVIDIA support for DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation, DLSS Frame Generation, DLSS Super Resolution, DLAA and NVIDIA Reflex.
Availability depends on your graphics card, driver, game version and selected resolution. The official information does not identify one universally best technology or preset, so compare the options on your own system rather than copying a single recommendation.

How to compare them fairly
- Keep the display resolution, graphics preset and scene consistent while testing.
- Compare native rendering with each supported upscaling mode at the same output resolution.
- Look for fine texture stability, readable distant targets, shimmering, ghosting and image softness.
- Check frame pacing and controls, not only the counter’s average FPS.
- Treat generated frames as additional displayed frames, not as the same thing as increasing the game’s rendered base FPS.
Frame generation can make motion appear smoother, but it does not automatically improve responsiveness. Latency depends on the base render rate, the frame-generation method and the rest of your system. If controls feel delayed or artifacts appear around moving objects, a lower but natively rendered frame rate may be preferable.

Battlefield technical director Christian Buhl told PC Gamer on August 28, 2025: “We want Battlefield 6 to run great without [DLSS], and we want to give you the option to use it if you want.” The same interview reports that default performance targets were not set with upscaling enabled. That means upscaling is an option to evaluate, not a prerequisite assumed by the game’s baseline targets.
When the Low preset is not enough
Graphics settings cannot fix every limitation. A processor-limited multiplayer scene, insufficient memory, thermal throttling, a background workload or a driver problem can leave FPS low even after visual settings are reduced.
Check the pattern of the slowdown
- GPU usage near full load: Lowering resolution or using a supported upscaler is more likely to help than changing CPU-heavy options.
- GPU usage unexpectedly low with a busy processor: The game may be CPU-limited, limited by a single heavily loaded thread, or affected by background software.
- Stutters after extended play: Check temperatures, clock speeds and memory use for throttling or paging.
- Only one map or mode is affected: Compare another scenario before making permanent quality cuts.
Use an on-screen monitoring overlay if available, but interpret it alongside frame-time consistency and input feel. A higher average can still feel worse if the frame-time graph contains frequent spikes.
Battlefield 6 PC requirements and what they do not guarantee
EA publishes separate minimum and recommended configurations. They establish supported hardware tiers, not a guaranteed frame rate, resolution or graphics preset.

Both tiers list 16 GB of system memory. The minimum graphics tier lists 6 GB of VRAM, while the recommended tier lists 8 GB. EA specifies 55 GiB of HDD storage for minimum systems and 80 GiB of SSD storage for recommended systems. Meeting the recommended list does not promise a particular FPS result because resolution, settings, match conditions and software state still affect performance.

A hardware purchase is the fallback, not the first step. Try the seven Low settings, verify temperatures and background usage, and compare native rendering with supported upscaling before spending money.
If the GPU remains fully loaded at your chosen resolution and the Low preset still misses your target, a faster graphics card may be appropriate. EA’s recommended examples—Radeon RX 6700 XT, RTX 3060 Ti and Arc B580—are reference points for the published tier, not a universal upgrade prescription. The best choice depends on your current card, power supply, processor, case clearance, target resolution, local pricing and warranty. Confirm current specifications and compatibility before buying; the published requirements do not establish present-day prices, availability or comparative value.

Common mistakes and fixes
Expecting a guaranteed percentage from one slider
No official source reviewed for this guide supplies a per-setting FPS increase. If a change appears to help, record it under your own resolution and match conditions instead of applying the result as a universal claim.

Judging performance from an empty area
Large battles, smoke, destructible environments and dense vegetation can stress the system differently from a quiet test location. Recheck the settings during the kind of match in which you notice the problem.
Confusing generated FPS with base rendering
Frame-generation counters can rise while the underlying render rate and input latency remain unchanged or improve only modestly. Evaluate responsiveness and artifacts as well as the displayed number.
Lowering image quality before checking the real bottleneck
If the processor, memory, storage or temperatures are the limiting factor, indiscriminately lowering every graphics option may produce little benefit. Monitor utilization and frame times first.
Assuming launch-era feature support never changes
The technology statement is from August 28, 2025. Drivers and game updates can change which modes appear or how they behave, so check the current in-game menu and driver support before relying on a version-specific feature.
