Battleface Discovery is a customizable, single-trip travel insurance plan—not a promise that every listed benefit covers every loss. Its fit depends on the benefits you select, the limits and deductibles on your schedule, your state’s policy wording, and whether your trip and activities meet the plan’s conditions.
What Battleface Discovery is
Discovery lets travelers choose combinations of benefits for a single trip. The company describes it as a way to tailor coverage to a trip; what you actually buy is determined by your selections and the applicable policy and schedule. Start with Battleface’s US benefits information, then check the policy documents for your residence and itinerary.
A benefit name in a marketing summary is not enough to establish that a claim will be paid. Coverage can depend on a policy limit, deductible, covered-reason requirement, eligibility rule, or exclusion. For example, the Pennsylvania policy form describes travel medical reimbursement for reasonable and customary charges, up to the schedule maximum and after any deductible, for eligible treatment of an injury or sickness that occurs or first begins during a covered trip. It also requires initial documented treatment by a physician during the trip. Those are Pennsylvania form terms, not a nationwide guarantee; consult the current form for your state.
Discovery vs. Scout
The main structural difference is how coverage is assembled. Battleface says Discovery allows travelers to choose coverages, while Scout begins with a preselected package and offers limited add-ons. NerdWallet describes Discovery as generally more flexible and higher-limit, but that characterization does not establish that it is the better purchase for every traveler. Compare the actual schedules and prices for the same traveler, trip, and desired benefits.

What to verify before buying
Benefits, limits, and deductibles
Use the schedule to check the specific medical, emergency evacuation, trip cancellation, trip interruption, baggage, and other benefits relevant to your trip. Confirm each limit and sublimit, any deductible, and whether a benefit is primary or secondary where applicable. The Discovery Program Guide describes state-dependent plan details; the schedule and policy for your state determine the terms that apply to you.
Eligibility, trip cost, and trip length
Eligibility and plan design can vary by state, age, trip cost, and trip duration. Battleface’s Discovery Program Guide states a maximum trip length of 90 days and an age maximum of 85 in listed states, with exceptions—including a shorter maximum trip period in Florida. It also describes state-dependent maximum trip costs. These figures are not universal eligibility guarantees: check the current guide and your state’s policy before relying on them.

Activities and optional sports coverage
Do not assume that advertising adventure coverage means every activity is included automatically. The applicable policy may require an optional benefit to be elected and paid for, and may still impose conditions or exclusions. For example, the California form lists activities excluded unless Adventure Sports Coverage has been elected and the premium paid. Its list includes professional athletic events, motor sports, skydiving, parachuting, hang gliding, bungee jumping, heliskiing, spelunking, skiing, snowboarding, rafting, hunting or shooting, and parkour. This is an example from the California form, not a complete or universal activity list. Check the exact activity and its circumstances in your own policy.
Pre-existing-condition exclusion waiver
The waiver is conditional; it does not mean pre-existing conditions are automatically covered. Battleface’s US benefits information and Program Guide describe a 15-day purchase window for Discovery. The guide also shows that eligibility and plan design depend on state, and the waiver has additional conditions, including requirements related to insuring the full trip cost. Confirm the deadline and every eligibility condition in the current guide and applicable policy before purchasing; do not assume the waiver applies if a condition is unmet.

How to judge whether Discovery fits
- Identify your needs. List the losses that matter for your trip—such as medical care, evacuation, cancellation, interruption, or baggage—and the activities you plan to do.
- Check eligibility first. Use your state’s current policy and guide to confirm that your residence, age, trip cost, destination, and trip duration qualify.
- Build the coverage you need. Select the relevant benefits and any required activity option. Read the schedule to see the resulting limits, sublimits, and deductibles.
- Check the conditions. Review covered reasons, exclusions, documentation requirements, and whether any benefit is primary or secondary. If seeking a pre-existing-condition exclusion waiver, verify its deadline and all conditions before buying.
- Compare Scout on equal terms. Request or review quotes for the same traveler, trip, and coverage needs, then compare the schedules—not just the product summaries.
What this review can and cannot establish
The available plan descriptions and an independent NerdWallet review support an assessment of product structure and policy conditions, but they do not establish representative claim acceptance rates, claim-processing times, or typical customer satisfaction. Discovery’s modular design may suit someone who wants to choose benefits, but only the applicable policy and schedule show what protection the purchase provides.
