The Evercade Nexus is earning positive early coverage, and its included Banjo-Kazooie Double Pack makes the handheld’s biggest control change easy to understand: two analogue sticks let players use the right stick to move the camera in these 3D platformers. Time Extension gave the Nexus 8/10; Tom’s Guide published a favorable hands-on preview, not a completed review. The bundle is compelling, but the larger screen and dual sticks come with trade-offs in price, portability, and ergonomics.
What the early Evercade Nexus coverage actually says
Time Extension’s October 8, 2026 review awarded the Nexus 8/10 and described it as an upgrade, while identifying the bundled games as a major part of its appeal. Read Time Extension’s Evercade Nexus review.

Both games come on one cartridge
The Banjo-Kazooie Double Pack includes Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie on a single cartridge, according to both outlets. The physical format fits Evercade’s cartridge-based approach, while the two games give the bundle a substantial showcase rather than a single-game demonstration.

The second stick has a clear job
Time Extension reports that the Nexus’s right analogue stick controls the camera in the Banjo games. That makes dual analogue controls more than a hardware spec: players can adjust the view while steering Banjo and Kazooie with the other stick, an especially relevant improvement for 3D platforming.
Tom’s Guide reports that the Evercade versions target 60 frames per second and include improved resolution, added control options, bonus content, and Stop ’n’ Swop functionality. These are claims from its hands-on coverage; they are not independent performance measurements.

What changes compared with the Evercade EXP
The Nexus has a 5.89-inch IPS display at 840×512, according to Time Extension. The EXP comparison in that review is a 4.3-inch, 800×480 display. The Nexus therefore offers a larger image area, but its lower effective pixel density means size alone does not establish that the picture will look sharper.

For someone who already owns Evercade cartridges, compatibility makes the Nexus more than a Banjo-specific device. The reported catalog totals differ by publisher: Time Extension said the library exceeded 70 cartridges and 700 games, while Tom’s Guide reported more than 80 cartridges and 700-plus games in its October 2026 coverage. Those counts should be read as each outlet’s snapshot, not combined into one definitive total.
Trade-offs to weigh before buying
- Price: Tom’s Guide reported pre-launch pricing of $199 / £169, while TechRadar reported $199.99 / £169.99 / €199.99. These are slightly different published figures from before the reported October 30, 2026 release date, not a guarantee of the current local price. Check a retailer listing in your country.
- Processing power: Time Extension said the Nexus does not deliver a significant processing-power increase over the EXP or VS. Its case rests more on controls, screen size, and the bundled software than on a major performance leap.
- Comfort and portability: Time Extension found the shoulder triggers uncomfortable during some play and considered the Nexus less portable than the EXP. Those are reviewer impressions; how much they matter depends on your hands and whether you prioritize a larger screen or a smaller device.
Is the Evercade Nexus worth it for Banjo-Kazooie?
The Nexus bundle is most persuasive for players who want both Banjo games on a physical cartridge and expect to use the second stick for camera control. Existing Evercade owners also have a reason to consider the system if they want their cartridge library on a larger-screen handheld. The case is weaker if you already have an EXP, want a substantial jump in processing power, or put compact portability and trigger comfort ahead of the new controls.
