To improve your chances of being discovered on Bandcamp, make your artist profile and each release easy to classify and preview: choose accurate genres, add specific release tags, include cover art, and select a representative featured track. Then connect with listeners who already know your work, recommend artists you value, and use Bandcamp’s stats to see how people are finding you. These are practical steps based on Bandcamp’s guidance—not guarantees of placement, followers, or sales.
How Bandcamp discovery works
Bandcamp describes itself as both a direct-to-fan store and a connected music community. Its Artist Guide points to Discover, recommendations, fan collections, and the music feed as ways listeners may encounter artists. Those features create possible paths to new listeners, but simply uploading music does not ensure that those paths will lead to a release.
One path begins with an artist telling existing fans about a Bandcamp page. Fans can follow the artist and receive release and merchandise notifications. A purchase may also put a release in a buyer’s public collection, where other listeners can find it. Bandcamp describes related-purchase suggestions and recent best-seller sections in Discover as additional routes. These are platform features, not a promise that every release will appear in each one. See the Bandcamp Artist Guide and Bandcamp for Artists.

The terms say this automatic feed does not use machine learning or recommendations derived from a fan’s general browsing activity. That description applies to the automatic feed covered by the terms; it should not be generalized to every search or discovery surface. Read the Bandcamp Terms of Use.

Discover features can change. On July 16, 2026, Bandcamp announced that fans could filter Discover to show releases by artists they follow, then explore those results by tag, location, and format. Bandcamp’s announcement describes that feature update.
How Bandcamp tags work—and how to choose them
Genres and tags help describe music so listeners can search and browse for relevant releases. Bandcamp advises artists to choose a fitting genre for the profile and tag every release. Discover also supports combining tags to narrow searches, as described in Bandcamp’s April 25, 2024 update.
- Choose the closest accurate genre for the artist profile.
- Add relevant genre and subgenre tags to each album or track, rather than relying only on profile tags.
- Prefer terms a listener might genuinely use to find this music. Avoid unrelated, joke, or misleading tags that classify the release inaccurately.
Charlie Pastuszenski, Bandcamp Product Lead, wrote in the December 12, 2023 Discover announcement: “Select a genre on your profile, and tag all of your releases. You’re more likely to show up in the search results of your future fans by doing this.” The wording is “more likely,” not a guarantee of search placement. Read the announcement.

What to set up on your artist profile
A clear profile helps a new visitor understand who you are and what you make. Bandcamp recommends using a concise biography; its Artist Guide says text after 400 characters is cut off. Put links to other sites in the profile’s link section instead of crowding the biography.
- Set an accurate profile genre and add relevant artist-level tags.
- Write a short biography that identifies the artist and describes the music near the beginning.
- Add lyrics where appropriate. Bandcamp says lyrics can support search discovery and accessibility for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
These profile recommendations are covered in the Artist Guide.
How to prepare a release for search and Discover
Add cover art
Bandcamp says releases without album art will not appear in search listings, tag listings, or Discover. Its June 5, 2026 design tutorial recommends square artwork at least 1400 × 1400 pixels. Check the Bandcamp design tutorial for the platform’s current artwork guidance.

Choose a useful featured track
Select a featured track that represents the release and gives a prospective listener a strong first listen. Bandcamp’s Discover announcement recommends choosing one with new listeners in mind. The featured track is a presentation choice; the cited guidance does not establish that a particular selection guarantees more plays.

Make pre-orders playable
If you use a pre-order, enable at least one track for streaming or download during the pre-order period. Bandcamp’s Artist Guide says a pre-order album needs at least one streamable track to appear in discovery tools.
Complete the release page
Add specific tags to the release itself, and include useful liner notes or context. Bandcamp recommends liner notes as a way to add value and biographical context. See the Artist Guide for its release setup guidance.

How to reach more followers on Bandcamp
Bandcamp’s guidance emphasizes bringing existing listeners to the platform and inviting them to follow. Followers can receive notifications when an artist releases music or merchandise, giving fans a direct way to keep up with new work.
- Announce your Bandcamp page through channels where you already reach listeners.
- Ask people who want updates to follow your artist page.
- Keep release and merchandise information current so notifications remain relevant.
- Recommend other Bandcamp artists whose music you value. Bandcamp says recommendations can appear in album-page footers and Discover, and that the recommended artists are notified.
- If you have merchandise to sell, list it with appealing item photos. Bandcamp’s Discover announcement recommends these practices but does not require a particular camera or photo accessory.
Recommendations are a way to participate in the community, not a guaranteed or automatic exchange: another artist’s recommendation does not ensure they will recommend you in return. Bandcamp’s guidance on followers and recommendations appears in the Artist Guide, artist tools overview, and Discover announcement.

Bandcamp says artist tools include sales and traffic statistics. The Artist Guide describes checking where sales and visits come from, including social media, Bandcamp search and the search terms people used, and Bandcamp browsing tools.
Best Value
- Advanced build quality and engineering
- 40 millimeter drivers with rare earth magnets and copper clad aluminum wire voice coils
- Tuned for enhanced detail, with excellent mid-range definition
- Circumaural design contours around the ears for excellent sound isolation in loud environments
- Convenient single side cable exit
- Look for the referral sources and search terms associated with visits or sales.
- Use those observations to decide which announcements, tags, or release-page details may need attention.
- Compare patterns over time, but do not assume one traffic change proves a particular action caused it.
Stats can help you make more informed choices about promotion; the available guidance does not establish a measured audience or sales lift from any single tactic. See the Artist Guide and Bandcamp for Artists.
Why an album may not appear in Bandcamp Discover
Start by checking the release requirements and classification details Bandcamp identifies for discovery:
- No cover art: Bandcamp says a release without album art will not appear in search listings, tag listings, or Discover.
- Pre-order without a playable track: Bandcamp says a pre-order album needs at least one track enabled for streaming to appear in discovery tools.
- Missing or inaccurate tags: Check that the release—not only the artist profile—has relevant tags listeners might search or combine.
- Unclear profile genre: Confirm that the artist profile genre accurately describes the music.
These checks address the specific eligibility and findability guidance Bandcamp publishes. They cannot establish why a release is absent from every discovery surface, since Bandcamp’s cited material does not promise a particular placement or explain every case of visibility. For current setup guidance, consult the Artist Guide and design tutorial.
What these tactics can—and cannot—promise
Accurate metadata, complete release assets, a deliberate first listen, fan communication, community recommendations, and reviewing stats are actions artists can take. Discover and other recommendation surfaces are platform-mediated, so their placement is not under an artist’s direct control. Bandcamp’s official sources explain features and offer advice; they do not provide controlled evidence that any one tactic causes a specific increase in listeners, followers, or revenue.
