Use AI to support editorial work, not to substitute for reader value. Strong search visibility starts with useful, accurate content for a real audience; good performance makes that content easier to use. Neither AI disclosure, a technical score, nor any single SEO tactic guarantees rankings.
Start with the reader’s goal, not the tool
Before drafting, identify who the page is for, what they need to do or understand, and what your site can add that a generic summary cannot. Google’s people-first guidance asks whether readers will leave having learned enough to achieve their goal. It also points publishers toward a clear audience, a useful purpose, appropriate first-hand expertise, and a satisfying outcome.
SEO can help people discover that work. Google puts it plainly: “SEO can be a helpful activity when it is applied to people-first content, rather than search engine-first content.” The distinction is practical: optimize a useful page so it can be found, rather than creating pages mainly to capture search visits.

Use AI as a workflow aid, with an editor accountable for the result
Generative AI can assist with research and organizing material. The finished page still needs editorial judgment: check factual claims against reliable evidence, add relevant context and analysis, and decide whether the material is accurate and useful for its intended audience. Represent authorship and any AI role honestly; do not invent credentials or expertise.
#1 Best Overall
Volume is not a substitute for value. Google warns that producing many pages without adding value for users may violate its scaled content abuse policy. A responsible workflow therefore asks what the page contributes, not how quickly a tool can generate another URL. Follow Google’s Search Essentials and prioritize quality, accuracy, and relevance.
When to explain AI’s role
Disclose how AI was used when readers would reasonably want that context to understand the content. Treat this as a transparency decision, not a ranking shortcut. The useful question is whether knowing the tool’s role helps readers assess the work—not whether adding a disclosure is expected to improve search position.

Build for AI Search with sound fundamentals
Google’s guide to its generative Search features, announced May 15, 2026, says those features are rooted in core Search ranking and quality systems. Its guidance emphasizes distinctive, useful content, crawlability, and a good visitor experience. It discourages unnecessary pages and supposed optimization hacks.

Do not assume that a special AI-focused tactic can compensate for a page that adds little or is hard to access.
Rank #3
Treat performance as part of the content experience
A reader cannot benefit from useful material if a page is slow to load, difficult to interact with, or unstable as it appears. Google considers page experience across multiple aspects. Core Web Vitals are used by its ranking systems, but passing their thresholds does not guarantee top rankings, and relevant content can still appear when page experience is subpar. Google’s page-experience FAQ states: “There is no single signal.”
Google’s documented good-experience targets are useful diagnostics for loading, responsiveness, and visual stability:
| Metric | Google’s good-experience target | What it helps diagnose |
|---|---|---|
| Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) | Within 2.5 seconds of page load | Loading performance |
| Interaction to Next Paint (INP) | Less than 200 milliseconds | Responsiveness to interactions |
| Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) | Less than 0.1 | Visual stability |
These are Google’s stated good-experience targets, not promises about ranking position. Use measurements to locate problems readers actually encounter rather than pursuing a perfect score for its own sake.
Review content, discoverability, and experience together
A page can be strong in one area and weak in another. There is no universal formula for weighting originality, trust, crawlability, speed, responsiveness, mobile usability, and distractions such as intrusive ads or interstitials. Google notes that relevance can outweigh subpar page experience in some cases, while a good experience can contribute when many helpful results compete. Use the following review to find fixable weaknesses without treating any one check as a guarantee.
Best Value
- Reader value: Does the page solve a real need and contribute information, analysis, experience, or utility beyond a generic summary?
- Editorial responsibility: If AI helped with research or organization, did an editor verify claims, add context, and assess relevance?
- Trust: Are authorship and AI’s role represented accurately, with no fabricated qualifications?
- Discoverability: Can search engines crawl the useful content? Are the page title and structure clear?
- Usability: Does the page work on mobile, respond to interactions, load responsively, and avoid disruptive visual shifts?
- Focus: Do ads or interstitials interfere with the main task?
- Measurement: Are performance reports being used to resolve user-facing problems rather than chase a score?
Use the answers to prioritize work: improve a thin page’s usefulness, correct unsupported claims, fix crawlability, or address a measured usability problem. Do not inflate the page count or add a tactic simply because it is associated with AI or SEO.
