First, resolve the name: AYN’s official catalog lists Odin 3 and Odin 2 Portal as separate handhelds. It does not show a product called “Odin 3 Portal.” If you meant Odin 3, the comparison below applies. If you meant Odin 2 Portal, use the separate section before deciding.

On published specifications, Odin 3 is the larger, newer-software option with a high-refresh AMOLED display, an 8,000mAh battery and more memory/storage configurations. Retroid Pocket 5 is a separate Android handheld whose official listing specifies Android 13, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1 and an eight-core processor layout. No controlled, directly comparable testing establishes a winner for emulation speed, sustained performance, comfort or battery life, so the right purchase depends on the exact model, delivered price and games you intend to play.

Confirm which AYN handheld you mean

The word “Portal” changes the comparison. Odin 3 and Odin 2 Portal are not two names for the same device:

What Odin 3’s published specification means

AMOLED display and 120Hz listing

Odin 3 is listed with a 6-inch Full HD AMOLED touchscreen, and the product title identifies a 120Hz screen. AMOLED can provide deep blacks and strong contrast; a higher refresh rate can make supported interfaces and games look smoother. Neither fact proves that every emulator or Android game will render at 120 frames per second. Actual refresh behavior depends on the game, emulator, frame pacing, power mode and software support.

Android 15

The Odin 3 listing specifies Android 15. A newer Android base can matter for app compatibility, security support and controller features, but the listing does not establish how long AYN will provide system updates. Treat the version as the software shipped or advertised for that listing, not as a promise of a particular update schedule. Confirm the installed build when your unit arrives.

8,000mAh battery

The quoted capacity is substantial for a handheld, but capacity is not runtime. Screen brightness, refresh-rate selection, wireless radios, emulator load, thermals and sleep behavior all change endurance. No controlled battery comparison with Pocket 5 is established here, so do not convert the capacity number into hours of play.

Hall-effect sticks and 390g weight

AYN lists Hall sticks, which use magnetic sensing rather than a conventional resistive contact path. That design can reduce one common source of stick wear, but it does not guarantee a particular feel, dead-zone setting or lifetime. The listed 390g weight is useful when comparing the device with a phone, a smaller handheld or a tablet; it does not by itself predict comfort. Grip shape, stick placement, button force and how you hold the device are equally important and have not been measured in a controlled comparison here.

Memory and storage choices

Odin 3 configurations start at 8GB of RAM with 128GB of storage and extend to 24GB of RAM with 1TB of storage. More storage is convenient for large Android installs, disc images and shader caches, while extra RAM can help with multitasking. It does not automatically increase emulator frame rates. Choose the capacity for your library and transfer habits rather than paying for unused memory.

Price and preorder risk

At the time of the checked AYN listing, the starting price was $369 and the page included batch-preorder information. That is a time-specific listing, not a guaranteed delivered price. Before paying, verify the current configuration price, estimated dispatch batch, shipping charge, import taxes or duties, warranty terms and return window. A lower headline price can disappear once those costs are added.

What Retroid Pocket 5’s published specification means

CPU layout

Retroid’s official listing specifies one ARM Cortex-A77-class core at 2.8GHz, three A77 cores at 2.4GHz and four A55 cores at 1.8GHz. This tells you the advertised core arrangement and clock rates. It does not provide a benchmark score, sustained-temperature result or emulator test against Odin 3. Different cooling systems, firmware, governors and emulator settings can produce different real-world behavior even when two devices have published clock numbers.

Android 13

Pocket 5 is listed with Android 13. Check the actual firmware version after setup and look for the manufacturer’s update notes before assuming that a later Android release will arrive. Android version is one part of app compatibility; the graphics driver, permissions, controller mapping and emulator build also matter.

Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1

The listing identifies Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1. Those are useful for downloading games, streaming from another computer and pairing wireless controllers or headphones, but your router, network congestion and accessory codecs determine the experience. Wireless standards do not establish local emulation speed.

Missing comparison figures

The official result used here does not establish Pocket 5’s display specifications, battery capacity, weight, memory/storage tiers or current price. Do not fill those cells with numbers copied from a reseller or an older revision without checking that the listing is for the same model and region.

If you actually meant Odin 2 Portal

Odin 2 Portal is a separate product. AYN describes it as a Qualcomm 8 Gen 2 device with a 7-inch 1080p AMOLED touchscreen, Android 13 and an 8,000mAh battery. Its product listing has separate configurations and pricing. Those facts should be compared with Pocket 5 only after you confirm the exact Portal configuration and current delivered price.

The larger screen may be the deciding factor for someone who values a roomy interface, but screen size alone does not establish comfort, portability or game performance. Do not use Odin 3’s Android 15, 6-inch display, 120Hz description or 390g weight when evaluating Odin 2 Portal.

Why the specifications do not identify a performance winner

A processor name, core count or clock speed is not a controlled performance result. A meaningful comparison would hold the emulator version, game build, resolution, frame limit, renderer, thermal state and power mode constant, then measure frame time and sustained behavior over a repeatable session. No such head-to-head figures are established for these products here.

AYN Odin 3 Pro Android Gaming Handheld | Qualcomm Dragonwing Q8, 6" 120Hz AMOLED, 8000mAh Battery | 12GB RAM, 256GB Storage | Wi-Fi 7 | Next-Gen Emulation Console
  • Flagship Dragonwing Q8 Performance: Powered by the advanced Dragonwing Q8 processor, delivering exceptional speed and efficiency for high-end Android gaming and demanding emulation. Paired with a powerful integrated GPU, it ensures smooth gameplay, fast load times, and a consistently responsive experience even under heavy workloads.
  • Ultra-Fluid 120Hz AMOLED Display: Immerse yourself in games on a vibrant 6-inch AMOLED touchscreen with a 1920x1080 resolution and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, offering superior color accuracy and response time.

  • Next-Gen Connectivity & I/O: Features future-proof Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0 for stable, ultra-low latency online play. The USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode, allowing 4K@60Hz video output to an external screen.

That matters most for demanding 3D emulation. A device can launch a title yet show uneven frame pacing, shader-compilation pauses or throttling after it heats up. Conversely, a less powerful device may be entirely adequate for a library made mostly of lightweight games. Select the handheld around the systems and individual titles you actually intend to play, and treat community compatibility reports as title-specific rather than universal proof.

Longest battery life No specification-only winner Controlled runtime at your brightness, refresh rate and emulator workload

A practical buying process

  1. Write down the exact model. Use “Odin 3,” “Odin 2 Portal” or “Retroid Pocket 5.” If a page combines names, pause and find a page that identifies one model unambiguously.
  2. List your target software. Separate native Android games, streaming clients and emulated systems. Mark the few titles that matter most; a device that runs your favorite games well is more useful than one with an impressive specification sheet.
  3. Set a delivered-price ceiling. Add the device, shipping, taxes or duties, optional storage, case, screen protector and any replacement or return costs. Use the same currency and configuration when comparing sellers.
  4. Choose capacity deliberately. Estimate the space for Android applications, game files, save backups and updates. If you will move a large library frequently, internal storage and transfer methods may matter more than theoretical peak performance.
  5. Check the seller’s terms. Confirm dispatch timing, batch status, warranty contact, return address, dead-pixel policy and who pays return shipping. This is particularly important for a preorder listing.
  6. Recheck volatile facts at checkout. Android versions, prices, stock, shipping estimates and included accessories can change after an article or product page is published.
  7. Keep your order evidence. Save the configuration, promised batch, price and policy shown when you buy. It gives you a reference if the listing changes later.

Accessories and storage: avoid compatibility assumptions

AYN’s catalog includes an Odin 3 carrying case, soft pouch, screen protector, accessories pack and a 256GB SD card. These listings show that the categories exist; they do not prove that every accessory fits every configuration or that a third-party item is equivalent. Check the exact model cut-outs, screen dimensions, stick clearance and SD-card requirements before ordering.

For either handheld, a fast, reliable card from a reputable seller is preferable to a suspiciously cheap card with an unverified capacity. Back up saves and configuration files separately. A card failure should not erase the only copy of your progress.

Setup checklist after delivery

  1. Photograph the package and serial information before discarding packing material, especially if the purchase is a preorder or international shipment.
  2. Confirm the model and configuration in Android settings and against the order. Verify RAM/storage claims and inspect the screen, buttons, sticks, ports and speakers.
  3. Update through the manufacturer’s supported method after recording the original software version. Avoid unofficial firmware until you understand recovery procedures and warranty implications.
  4. Charge and calibrate your expectations. Test sleep, wake, charging and battery reporting. A single short session is not a runtime benchmark.
  5. Pair one controller or headset at a time and test reconnect behavior. Note whether Bluetooth accessories interfere with your preferred control layout.
  6. Install only software you are licensed to use. For emulation, create game images from media you own and follow the laws that apply where you live.
  7. Run a repeatable game test. Use the same title, resolution, renderer, frame limit and play period when comparing settings. Record frame pacing, temperature, battery percentage and any crashes rather than relying on memory.
  8. Back up saves and settings. Keep a copy on another device before experimenting with performance tweaks or storage changes.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them

Buying the wrong AYN model

The “Portal” wording is the most serious trap. Read the model name on the product page, checkout screen and invoice. Odin 3 and Odin 2 Portal have different published specifications.

Treating list price as delivered price

Use the final checkout total for your region. Shipping, tax, import charges and optional storage can change the comparison more than a small difference in advertised starting prices.

Using CPU labels as benchmark results

Core architecture and clock rates describe hardware; they do not establish frame rates, sustained performance or battery endurance. Look for repeatable, title-specific measurements before making a demanding-emulation decision.

Assuming a newer Android number guarantees support

Android 15 or Android 13 is the manufacturer-listed base version, not a commitment to a particular update timetable. Verify the installed build and the vendor’s current support information.

Ignoring ergonomics

Weight, screen size and controls interact. If possible, hold the same class of device before buying, or use a retailer with a clear return policy. A specification advantage is not useful if the controls cause fatigue.

Ordering accessories by appearance

Cases and protectors are cut for particular shells and screens. Match the accessory to the exact model and revision, and verify that a listed SD card is supported by the device and formatted appropriately.

Which one should you buy?

Choose Odin 3 when its documented priorities match yours

Odin 3 is the more compelling specification-led choice if you specifically want the advertised Android 15 base, a 6-inch Full HD AMOLED screen identified as 120Hz, an 8,000mAh battery, Hall sticks or a broad range of published RAM and storage tiers. Make that choice only after confirming the current configuration price, preorder timing and delivered cost.

Choose Retroid Pocket 5 when its complete current offer fits better

Pocket 5 can be the sensible purchase if its current price, size, controls, software support and target-game compatibility suit you better. The available official information confirms Android 13, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1 and the listed eight-core CPU arrangement, but it does not establish a performance or value win over Odin 3. Obtain the missing display, battery, storage and pricing details for the exact listing you plan to buy.

Choose neither until the identity or price is clear

Wait if the page calls the product “Odin 3 Portal,” hides the configuration, gives no dispatch information or shows a price that excludes unavoidable delivery costs. Clarifying the model and total cost is more important than ordering quickly.

Bottom line

There is no evidence here for a universal winner. For the correctly identified Odin 3, the published specification favors a newer Android base, high-refresh AMOLED display, larger battery and unusually broad memory/storage choices. Pocket 5 has a clearly listed Android 13 software base, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1 and an eight-core CPU configuration, but several comparison-critical figures and all controlled head-to-head results remain unstated. Buy Odin 3 for its documented feature set if the delivered price and preorder terms work for you; buy Pocket 5 only after confirming its current configuration and that it meets your specific game list. If “Portal” was intentional, restart the comparison with Odin 2 Portal rather than treating it as another name for Odin 3.
