Which email marketing software works with Amazon SES? The most defensible 2026 shortlist with direct, first-party compatibility evidence contains three choices: Sendy, Mailcoach, and FluentCRM. Amazon SES supplies the delivery infrastructure; these applications add campaign creation, audience workflows, automation, or a WordPress interface. SES itself is not a complete newsletter-marketing workspace, so your decision should start with the operating model you want and then confirm the integration, list controls, maintenance burden, and total cost.
This guide deliberately presents three verified options rather than inventing a ranking of nine. AWS partner-directory entries for Acqueon and MoEngage are useful enterprise leads, but the listings do not document a one-to-one setup or establish that they are interchangeable with newsletter software. Treat them as investigation candidates, not proven winners.
What Amazon SES does in an email-marketing stack
Amazon Simple Email Service (SES) is an email service that can send marketing messages, newsletters, and transactional email. It is the delivery layer: it accepts a message through an API or SMTP connection, applies account and identity controls, and delivers through Amazon’s infrastructure. A companion application normally supplies the visual campaign editor, subscriber workflows, segmentation, scheduling, automation, and reporting.
That separation matters. Two tools can both “support SES” while offering very different experiences. One may be a self-managed campaign application that uses SES as its default transport; another may be a WordPress customer-relationship system that sends through an SMTP connector; a third may be a hosted platform where you bring your own provider account. Compare the complete stack, not only the per-message charge.
#1 Best Overall
SES documentation covers the service’s capabilities and delivery interfaces at AWS’s SES overview and the SES developer guide.
Verified AWS SES software options
The table below limits compatibility claims to product documentation that explicitly names Amazon SES or its API. “Hosted or self-managed” describes the operating decision you need to verify with the vendor because deployment and plan details can change.
| Product | Evidence of SES connection | Best fit | Operating model to evaluate | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sendy | Its update page describes Amazon SES as the default route when no per-brand SMTP credentials are configured; its API documents subscribers, lists, brands, and campaigns. | Teams wanting a dedicated SES-connected campaign tool and control over infrastructure. | Self-managed installation and maintenance should be confirmed before purchase. | Verify the current license, supported runtime, installation procedure, and any SMTP alternatives. |
| Mailcoach | Its provider page lists Amazon SES and says an SES account and corresponding provider token are required. | Organizations wanting a platform with bring-your-own-email-provider support. | Confirm whether the current plan and deployment are hosted, self-hosted, or both. | The provider page does not establish current pricing, deployment plans, or every campaign feature. |
| FluentCRM | Its documentation describes campaigns, sequences, and automations; delivery documentation lists Amazon SES API through FluentSMTP. | WordPress site owners who want CRM and automation features inside WordPress. | WordPress hosting, plugin administration, and a separate delivery configuration. | Campaign/CRM functions and SES transport are distinct components that must both be configured. |
Sendy: a dedicated SES-oriented campaign application
Sendy’s update documentation says Amazon SES is the default sending path when no per-brand SMTP credentials are configured. That makes it a natural candidate when your priority is a campaign application designed around a low-cost, bring-your-own-delivery architecture rather than a fully managed sending service. The product also exposes an API covering subscribers, lists, brands, and campaigns, which can help when signup forms, internal systems, or custom workflows need to exchange data with the campaign tool. See the Sendy updates page and Sendy API documentation.
When Sendy is a sensible fit
- You are comfortable operating the application and its hosting environment.
- You want campaign, list, brand, and subscriber controls in a focused interface.
- You prefer to keep the SES account and sending identity under your own AWS account.
- You need an API for integrating forms or other systems.
Checks to complete before adopting it
Confirm the current installation prerequisites, supported server and database versions, license terms, upgrade process, and backup responsibilities. SES connectivity does not remove those duties. Also map how the application records consent, handles list-level unsubscribes, and prevents a suppressed contact from being re-imported accidentally. If several brands share one installation, determine whether each brand uses the default SES path or separate SMTP credentials and how permissions are partitioned.
Mailcoach: bring-your-own-provider flexibility
Mailcoach’s provider documentation lists Amazon SES and states that you need an SES account and the corresponding provider token to connect it. This model can appeal to organizations that want the application layer while retaining control of the delivery provider, region, credentials, and sending identity. The relevant evidence is on the Mailcoach bring-your-own-email-provider page.
Questions to answer about your Mailcoach deployment
- Is the plan you are considering hosted, self-managed, or available in both forms?
- Which SES credentials are stored, and how are they rotated?
- How are audiences, segments, consent records, and unsubscribe events represented?
- Does the plan include the automation, templates, and reporting your team expects?
- What infrastructure, queue workers, monitoring, and backups are your responsibility if self-managed?
The provider page establishes SES support but does not, by itself, settle current pricing, deployment options, or the boundaries of every feature. Obtain those details for your edition and region before comparing the total cost with a WordPress or self-hosted alternative.

FluentCRM: WordPress CRM and automation with SES delivery
FluentCRM describes itself as an email-marketing and automation tool for campaigns, sequences, and automations. Its delivery documentation lists the Amazon SES API through FluentSMTP, while a separate page covers SMTP and bounce-handler settings. Read both the email delivery and deliverability documentation and the SMTP and bounce-handler settings.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Why WordPress teams choose this architecture
The campaign and CRM data live in WordPress, so site forms, memberships, purchases, and other WordPress events can feed automations without a separate audience database. SES remains the delivery service. That division gives flexibility but also creates two administration surfaces: WordPress and AWS.
Implementation cautions
- Keep WordPress, the CRM plugin, and the SMTP connector updated and backed up.
- Use the SES API configuration documented for your connector rather than assuming SMTP credentials and AWS access keys are interchangeable.
- Test bounce processing and complaint handling before sending a large campaign.
- Document who can export contacts, alter automations, and change sending credentials.
FluentCRM is therefore strongest for a WordPress-centered operating model. If you do not run WordPress or do not want to maintain a PHP application, its integration advantage may not outweigh the operational overhead.
Enterprise leads in the AWS partner directory
AWS’s SES partner directory describes Acqueon and MoEngage as customer-engagement or multichannel platforms. Those entries are useful starting points for an enterprise procurement process, especially when email is one channel in a broader customer-engagement program. However, a directory description does not establish the exact SES configuration, account permissions, delivery workflow, list model, or pricing for your use case.
Ask each enterprise vendor for a current architecture diagram, supported SES regions, API or SMTP setup instructions, data-residency terms, suppression synchronization, contract minimums, and a demonstration of the campaign and automation features you require. Do not treat a partner-directory listing as proof that the product is a direct replacement for a newsletter-focused application.

SES supports two production-sending interfaces: SMTP and an API. The SMTP interface requires a Region-specific endpoint, port, SMTP credentials, a TLS-capable client, and a verified sending identity. SES SMTP credentials are distinct from ordinary AWS access keys and are unique by Region. The requirements are documented in Amazon’s SES SMTP interface guide.
Rank #3
API connection
An API integration lets the companion application call SES directly. The application normally asks for an AWS Region, credentials or a delegated role, and a verified identity. The exact field names depend on the application. Use least-privilege permissions, keep credentials out of source code, and rotate them according to your security policy.
SMTP connection
SMTP is useful when the marketing application already supports a standard mail server configuration. Create or obtain SES SMTP credentials for the Region you will use, select the documented SES endpoint and TLS port, and enter those values in the application’s provider settings. Do not paste normal AWS access keys into an SMTP-password field.
Practical setup sequence
- Choose one AWS Region. SES identities, SMTP credentials, and quotas are Region-specific. Decide where sending and any related data should be managed.
- Verify the sending identity. Verify the domain or email identity that the application will use in the From address. Complete the verification steps in SES before testing.
- Confirm account status. New or restricted SES accounts may have sending limits. Request production access or higher quotas when your projected volume requires it.
- Select API or SMTP. Use the integration documented by your marketing application. API avoids SMTP credential handling; SMTP can be simpler for software that already exposes standard mail-server fields.
- Create narrowly scoped credentials. Use Region-appropriate SES permissions, store secrets in the application’s protected configuration, and define a rotation owner.
- Send a controlled test. Test a verified address first, then a small internal list. Check the From address, Reply-To behavior, links, formatting, bounce events, and unsubscribe path.
- Move to production gradually. Increase volume in line with your SES quotas and monitor bounces, complaints, delivery failures, and application logs.
List management, topics, and unsubscribes
SES includes contact-list and topic management. AWS documents one contact list per account and a maximum of 20 topics. When list-management options are enabled, SES can add unsubscribe links and prevent sending to contacts who unsubscribed from the applicable list or topic. The mechanics are described in SES list management and SES subscription management.
That built-in capability does not automatically answer every marketing-compliance question. Before selecting software, establish which system owns the canonical consent record, how segments map to SES topics or application lists, how a global unsubscribe is enforced, and how suppression data is synchronized after an import. Verify the unsubscribe experience in the actual campaign editor, including headers, landing pages, confirmation behavior, and re-subscription controls.
Cost and quota considerations for 2026
SES usage is only one part of the budget. Add the marketing application’s license or subscription, hosting, database and queue infrastructure, monitoring, backups, maintenance time, integration work, and any enterprise contract minimums. A low send price can be outweighed by the labor required to operate a self-managed stack.
AWS’s current pricing page presents Essentials, Pro, Enterprise, and à-la-carte options. It also states that new SES accounts and account-Region combinations with no metered activity since June 1, 2025 begin Essentials on July 21, 2026. These plan and eligibility rules are volatile; check the live SES pricing page immediately before committing and record the Region, plan, and date used in your estimate.
Build a monthly model with separate rows for message volume, attachments or other metered features, application fees, infrastructure, and staff time. Include a growth scenario and a high-volume scenario that may require increased SES quotas.
Choosing the right operating model
Choose a dedicated self-managed campaign tool when
- Your team can patch, back up, monitor, and secure a server.
- You want direct control of the SES account and sending identity.
- Your main requirement is campaigns, lists, brands, and subscriber workflows rather than a larger CRM.
- You accept responsibility for deliverability operations and incident recovery.
Sendy is the clearest candidate among the verified options for this model, subject to current installation and licensing checks.
Choose bring-your-own-provider software when
- You want a defined application layer but do not want to be locked to one delivery provider.
- Your procurement team needs to control AWS credentials, region, and sending reputation.
- You are prepared to validate the vendor’s current hosting and plan boundaries.
Mailcoach fits this evaluation path because its provider page explicitly lists SES and requires your SES account and token.
Choose a WordPress CRM when
- Your contacts and behavioral events already live in WordPress.
- Automations need to react to site activity, purchases, forms, or memberships.
- You have an owner for WordPress security, updates, backups, and plugin compatibility.
FluentCRM is the verified option aligned with this model, with SES API delivery documented through FluentSMTP.
Choose an enterprise engagement suite when
- Email must coordinate with several channels and complex customer journeys.
- You need vendor-supported implementation, governance, and contractual service levels.
- You can complete a technical and commercial evaluation rather than relying on a directory listing.
Use AWS’s partner directory as a lead source for that process, then demand product-specific SES documentation and a scoped demonstration.

Troubleshooting common SES integration failures
The application cannot authenticate
Check that the selected Region matches the SES identity and SMTP credentials, that you used SES SMTP credentials for SMTP, and that the credential has not expired or been rotated. For API integrations, verify the IAM permissions and the application’s configured Region.
Best Value
Messages are rejected or remain limited
Confirm that the From identity is verified and that the account is allowed to send in the chosen Region. Review current quotas and request higher sending limits before a large launch. A marketing application cannot bypass SES account restrictions.
Unsubscribed contacts receive mail
Inspect both layers: the application’s audience and SES list-management settings. Confirm that unsubscribe events are written to the system used for segmentation, that imports do not reactivate suppressed contacts, and that the campaign uses the intended list or topic.
Bounces and complaints are invisible
Verify that the chosen application and connector process SES feedback, and that bounce or complaint events reach the correct mailbox, webhook, or event destination. Run a test with controlled addresses and document the person responsible for suppression review.
Recommended Free Tools
Deliverability declines after a volume increase
Increase volume gradually, monitor bounce and complaint rates, keep authentication and identity configuration consistent, and compare the campaign’s targeting with your consent records. Higher SES quotas increase capacity; they do not guarantee inbox placement.
Bottom line
For a defensible 2026 shortlist, start with Sendy for a dedicated SES-oriented campaign application, Mailcoach for bring-your-own-provider flexibility, or FluentCRM for WordPress-based CRM and automation. Then validate the current deployment, pricing, consent workflow, credentials, quotas, and maintenance requirements. SES supplies dependable delivery interfaces, but the companion software determines how practical and compliant your day-to-day marketing operation will be.
