AWS documents a way to connect the Kiro IDE to AWS DevOps Agent through MCP, but that is not the same thing as building an agent with the separate Kiro Crew project. The distinction matters: the AWS workflow is a vendor-documented integration for operational investigation, not evidence of a custom agent or autonomous production fixes.
First, what does “Kiro Crew” mean here?
The name can refer to two different things. AWS describes installing an AWS DevOps Agent power in Kiro and connecting it to the service through MCP. Separately, Kiro Crew’s project documentation describes a local personal autonomous agent powered by kiro-cli and MCP. The available documentation does not establish that these are the same product or that Kiro Crew is the mechanism used by AWS’s Kiro power.
This article covers the AWS-documented Kiro IDE integration. It does not claim a personal implementation, test, or result. If you specifically mean the separate Kiro Crew project, its local execution context should not be treated as equivalent to AWS’s hosted DevOps Agent connection.

What the Kiro–AWS DevOps Agent connection does
In AWS’s documented workflow, MCP is the connection layer that lets a compatible client such as Kiro access AWS DevOps Agent. AWS describes the service as supporting operational work such as incident investigation, cost optimization, architecture review, and topology mapping. These are product capabilities described by AWS, not proof that an integration will resolve an issue or make changes to production.

- Your favorite music and content – Play music, audiobooks, and podcasts from Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify and others or via Bluetooth throughout your home.
- Alexa is happy to help – Ask Alexa for weather updates and to set hands-free timers, get answers to your questions and even hear jokes. Need a few extra minutes in the morning? Just tap your Echo Dot to snooze your alarm.
- Keep your home comfortable – Control compatible smart home devices with your voice and routines triggered by built-in motion or indoor temperature sensors. Create routines to automatically turn on lights when you walk into a room, or start a fan if the inside temperature goes above your comfort zone.
- Do more with device pairing – Fill your home with music using compatible Echo devices in different rooms, or create a home theatre system with Fire TV.
- Say goodbye to drop-offs and buffering - With eero Built-in, Echo Dot doubles as a mesh wifi extender, adding up to 1,000 sq. ft. of wifi coverage to your existing eero network.
AWS’s walkthrough illustrates an investigation using CloudWatch metrics, X-Ray traces, ECS task events, and recent deployments. Its example prompt is: “ECS tasks are failing with OOM errors on my-service”. That is an AWS illustrative scenario, not a measured outcome or a claim that the agent automatically remediates the failure.
How AWS documents setting up the Kiro power
AWS’s setup guide describes installing the AWS DevOps Agent power in Kiro, configuring an agent token and region, approving those variables in Kiro’s MCP environment-variable settings, and restarting Kiro. The precise endpoint, authentication options, supported regions, and configuration may change, so use the current AWS guide to connect Kiro to AWS DevOps Agent for the live requirements rather than relying on a copied configuration.

- Approve the required environment variables in Kiro’s MCP environment-variable settings.
- Restart Kiro, then verify the connection using the current guide’s instructions.
AWS documents remote MCP access using an access token or AWS SigV4 credentials. The exact authentication choice and security requirements depend on the current configuration; do not expose tokens in prompts or shared project files. AWS also describes AWS MCP as a fallback for direct AWS API access when the remote endpoint is unavailable. That fallback is a different access path, so confirm which connection is active before interpreting what the agent can see or do. See AWS’s DevOps Agent access and task overview for the service context.

What MCP does—and what it does not establish
MCP provides a way for Kiro to communicate with the AWS DevOps Agent service. The presence of that connection alone does not establish that an agent has permission to change infrastructure, that it will take autonomous action, or that remediation succeeded. Those claims require evidence about the configured permissions, workflow, and actual results; the AWS setup documentation is not a record of a particular user’s build or test.

- Meet Echo Dot Max: Experience rich room-filling sound that automatically adapts to your space and fine-tunes playback. Features a built-in smart home hub and Omnisense technology for highly personalized experiences.
- Music to your ears: With nearly 3x the bass versus Echo Dot (2022 release), it fits beautifully in any space, delivering your personal sound stage with deep bass and enhanced clarity. Listen to streaming services, such as Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify, and SiriusXM. Encore!
- Do more with device pairing: Connect compatible Echo smart speakers and smart displays in different rooms, or pair with a second Echo Dot Max to enjoy even richer sound
- Simple smart home control: Set routines, pair and control lights, locks, and thousands of smart home devices that work with Alexa without needing a separate smart home hub. With Omnisense technology, you can activate routines via temperature or presence detection.
- Say goodbye to drop-offs and buffering - With eero Built-in, Echo Dot Max doubles as a mesh wifi extender, adding up to 1,000 sq. ft. of wifi coverage to your existing eero network.
Before using an integration for operational work, check the permissions granted to its credentials and the actions allowed in your environment. Treat analysis and recommendations as inputs to your incident process unless your own documented controls explicitly authorize further action.

In an announcement dated June 15, 2026, AWS said DevOps Agent had added custom SRE agents and headless access through MCP and A2A. AWS gave examples such as scheduled database health reports and log anomaly reviews, and cited the Kiro power as an example of checking production health and investigating issues from an IDE. These are AWS-described examples; availability and regional support can change. Consult the dated AWS walkthrough of the Kiro power for DevOps Agent alongside the live service documentation.

How to describe the setup accurately
- Call it the AWS DevOps Agent power for Kiro when referring to AWS’s documented IDE integration.
- Use “Kiro Crew” for the separate local project only when that is actually the project involved.
- Describe incident analysis and related operational tasks as AWS-documented capabilities unless you have evidence from your own implementation.
- Do not describe MCP connectivity as proof of autonomous production changes or successful remediation.
