Avalanche Studios Group is reported to be taking on the global publishing role for Supermassive Games titles, with Directive 8020 named as the first game under the arrangement. The report does not establish that Avalanche will market and distribute every title, or provide a complete list of games covered.
What the reported arrangement means
GamesMarket reported on October 9, 2026, that Avalanche Studios Group will become the global publisher of Supermassive Games titles. That describes a publishing responsibility—not a merger or acquisition of Supermassive. The report names Directive 8020 as the arrangement’s starting title.
In practical terms, the announcement identifies which group is expected to publish the named game and describes a broader global publishing role. It does not explain the work split between the companies or specify whether publishing responsibility includes particular marketing or distribution activities. Those details should not be inferred from the word “publisher” alone.

Directive 8020
The first named title is Directive 8020, a space-horror game in Supermassive’s The Dark Pictures series. Supermassive Games gives its release date as May 12, 2026. That places the game’s release before GamesMarket’s October 9, 2026 report; the announcement concerns the publishing arrangement, not a future release date.

How the companies are connected
Avalanche Studios Group and Supermassive Games are both part of Nordisk Games. Supermassive says Nordisk Games fully acquired it in 2022; Nordisk Games is part of the Egmont Group. This ownership context helps explain why publishing responsibilities can be handled within the same larger group, but it does not by itself establish the terms or scope of the new arrangement.
The studios have different creative identities. Avalanche Studios Group describes its divisions as Avalanche Studios, Expansive Worlds, and Systemic Reaction, and its historic portfolio is centered on open-world games. Supermassive describes itself as a storytelling-games studio. Supermassive’s notable games include Until Dawn, The Dark Pictures Anthology, and The Quarry; its about page also identifies Little Nightmares III as a release. These titles provide context for the studios, but are not individually confirmed as covered by the reported arrangement.

Does Avalanche now publish every Supermassive game?
The report describes Avalanche’s role broadly as global publisher for Supermassive Games titles, but it does not enumerate the full catalogue covered or explain how the arrangement applies to individual games. It also does not say whether existing publisher agreements or rights holders are affected. The clearest confirmed starting point is Directive 8020; coverage of other titles should not be treated as established on the information reported.
What has not been disclosed
The available report does not provide the commercial terms, a precise effective date, a title-by-title allocation of rights, platform plans, regional rollout details, or a detailed account of marketing and distribution responsibilities. It also does not identify a complete schedule of future Supermassive releases under Avalanche’s publishing role. These are unresolved details, not evidence that a particular platform, region, or game is excluded.
