Australian Military Bank’s Building Plus and Contents Plus are separate cover options, not one bundled tier with identical benefits. Building Plus advertises a 25% safety net above the building sum insured and up to two years of temporary accommodation. Contents Plus includes accidental damage and electrical motor burnout, with its own temporary-accommodation benefit. Portable contents away from home and extra Valuable Contents cover are optional, and the policy’s PDS and schedule determine the exact terms.
What Australian Military Bank Home Buildings and Contents Plus covers
Australian Military Bank describes its home insurance as separate Building and Contents cover, each available in Plus and Standard tiers. The bank names CGU in its product description. Its comparison table lists events including fire, flood or rainwater run-off, storm, storm surge or tsunami, theft or attempted theft, earthquake, escape of water or liquid, impact, and accidental breakage of glass. The extent of cover depends on the selected cover and applicable policy terms. See the bank’s Home Insurance page.
Building Plus
Building Plus advertises a safety net of 25% above the building sum insured if the home needs repair or rebuilding. It also advertises up to two years of temporary accommodation, compared with 12 months for Building Standard, and higher limits on some inclusions, such as landscaping. These benefits are subject to the policy’s limits and conditions.
Contents Plus
Contents Plus automatically includes accidental damage and electrical motor burnout, which are optional benefits under Contents Standard. It advertises up to two years of temporary accommodation and higher limits on some benefits, including food spoilage. Do not treat these features as unlimited cover: check their definitions, limits, and conditions in the PDS and policy schedule.

Is accidental damage included?
It is included automatically with Contents Plus, according to the bank’s tier comparison. Under Contents Standard, accidental damage is optional. Building and Contents are separate choices, so confirm the tier and benefits selected for each part of your policy rather than assuming a Contents Plus feature applies to the building cover.
Does Building Plus cover underinsurance?
Building Plus advertises a 25% safety net above the building sum insured, but that feature does not remove the need to choose an adequate sum insured. The bank says its calculator is only a guide and customers are responsible for insuring the home for its full replacement value. It also says that if the building or contents sum insured is higher than the actual repair, replacement, or rebuilding cost, CGU will pay only that actual cost. Review the safety net’s terms and conditions in the applicable PDS; do not assume it will cover every shortfall or every cost.

How long is temporary accommodation covered?
The bank advertises up to two years for Building Plus and Contents Plus. Building Standard is listed as offering 12 months. “Up to” is important: the actual benefit is subject to the policy’s terms, limits, and conditions. Check the PDS and schedule for the circumstances that qualify, any applicable limits, and how the benefit works across building and contents cover.
Are jewellery and portable items covered?
The bank describes unspecified Valuable Contents as having a total limit of $2,500 for works of art, collections, jewellery, and watches. Its optional Valuable Contents benefit can increase cover for eligible items. Portable Contents is also an optional benefit for items taken outside the home; it is not automatic simply because you hold Contents Plus.

Before relying on cover for a particular item, check the PDS and schedule for item definitions, sublimits, listing requirements, and conditions. Confirm whether the item needs to be specifically listed and whether the selected option applies where you intend to use or store it.
What to check before choosing a tier
- Set realistic sums insured: estimate full rebuilding or replacement costs rather than treating the bank’s calculator as a guaranteed valuation.
- Compare included and optional benefits: check accidental damage, motor burnout, and portable contents against the selections shown on your quote and schedule.
- Check limits for individual belongings: pay particular attention to jewellery, watches, collections, art, food spoilage, and landscaping.
- Read the applicable PDS: the bank lists a Home and Contents Insurance PDS, but its disclosure page does not establish the version or effective date. Use the document that applies to your quote or policy to verify exclusions, claim conditions, excesses, and benefit limits. Find the bank’s disclosure documents.
- Compare like with like: if considering another policy, compare the same property, sums insured, optional cover, and excess. The bank’s advertised features alone do not establish which policy offers better value for your circumstances.
Managing a policy and making a claim
The bank says eligible policies bought or renewed after 16 June 2025 can be changed online for certain settings, including excess amounts and optional benefits. It also advertises online claims at any time and fortnightly, monthly, or quarterly payment options without extra cost. Confirm that the relevant options are available for your policy and check current terms and channels with the bank before relying on them.
