If you can’t sign in to AT&T Mail, first check whether the problem is with your browser login or an email app. Then match the symptom to the fix: correct or reset your credentials, respond to an account lock or error code, or update the app’s authentication and server settings. AT&T does not publish an official seven-fix list; the seven steps below organize its support instructions into a practical troubleshooting sequence.

1. Check your AT&T ID and enter the password manually

Confirm that you’re using the right sign-in ID, then type the password instead of relying on autofill. A saved credential can be outdated or associated with a different account. If you use the same ID and password for AT&T and AT&T Mail, AT&T says the password may be shared across both services. See AT&T’s password guidance.

2. Reset a forgotten password through AT&T

Use AT&T’s password reset process if you don’t know the password or it continues to be rejected. The process asks for your AT&T ID and associated last name, then provides a verification method before you set a new password.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

AT&T’s stated password requirements are 8–24 characters and a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and listed special characters. Avoid easily guessed personal details, common words, and obvious sequences.

3. Update saved passwords on your devices and apps

After a reset, update the saved password wherever you use it, including browsers, devices, and email apps. An app may keep trying an old password even after webmail works with the new one. If you can’t access the recovery options, AT&T’s password guidance directs customers to call 800.288.2020; check AT&T’s current email support page for the latest support routing.

4. Use the error code to identify a lock or security issue

Don’t keep guessing when the sign-in page reports a lock or a security concern. AT&T’s error-code guidance distinguishes several situations:

  • Code 203.3: AT&T says the account may have been locked because it was hacked, phished, or otherwise at risk. Its guidance directs customers to call 800.288.2020 to reset the password and regain access.

5. Give a temporary error time to clear

Some temporary AT&T Mail errors can result from heavy network traffic. AT&T says they may clear within minutes, although some can take hours. Refresh the page first. If that doesn’t help, sign out on your devices and programs, clear your browser cache and cookies, restart the browser, and try again. Code 202.1 indicates a slower-than-usual sign-in; AT&T advises waiting a few minutes before trying again. See its temporary error-code instructions.

6. Test webmail in a supported, up-to-date browser

Try signing in at currently.com with your AT&T password. AT&T recommends using the latest version of a supported browser; update your browser or try another supported one if the sign-in page isn’t working. Its error-code guidance recommends these browser checks.

If webmail works but an email app does not, the issue is more likely to involve the app’s authentication or configuration than your basic webmail sign-in. Continue with the app-specific checks below.

7. Check the email app’s authentication and server settings

Confirm whether the app uses OAuth

AT&T recommends an OAuth-compatible app. Its published OAuth guidance lists Apple Mail, Outlook Mobile, and Yahoo Mail for iOS 9.0 and later; Gmail, Outlook Mobile, and Yahoo Mail for Android Lollipop/5.0 and later; Apple Mail on macOS 10.11/El Capitan and later; and Windows Mail on Windows 10. App and operating-system support can change, so check the current AT&T instructions for your setup.

If your app does not use OAuth, AT&T requires a 16-character secure mail key in place of your ordinary account password. Create one by following AT&T’s secure mail key instructions, then replace the saved app password with the key. For IMAP, change the password for both incoming IMAP and outgoing SMTP. A secure mail key is a credential for an email app, not your webmail password. AT&T says each device has its own key; it does not change your ordinary AT&T password and need not be regenerated just because that password changes. Keys do not expire, but AT&T deletes them when it locks or blocks an account for safety, in which case you’ll need to create new ones.
