Atelier du Mas is a loft-free tiny house designed for two: its bed, kitchen, dining and work surfaces, storage, and bathroom all sit on one level. Plume Habitat built it for the Pépiite hospitality network as a high-end holiday stay near Châteaurenard and Avignon. The choice reflects that specific use—not a claim that every tiny house can dispense with a sleeping loft.
Why this tiny house has no sleeping loft
Plume Habitat says host Marie, who welcomes guests at Mas des Écoliers, wanted to add holiday accommodation with a lighter structure that would still feel high-end and fit the surrounding Mediterranean garden. Because the house was intended for a couple’s stay, the builder judged an elevated sleeping mezzanine unnecessary and placed the sleeping area on the main level instead.
The project page describes Atelier du Mas as a single-level tiny house, or “de plain-pied,” with an exterior height of 3.5 m. Plume Habitat gives 4.2 m as the height of its more usual mezzanine-equipped mini-houses. Those are the builder’s figures for this project and its typical design, not a universal height comparison across tiny homes. How the one-level layout fits the essentials
The plan brings the sleeping area, cooking, dining, work surface, seating, storage, and bathroom together on one compact level. Plume Habitat lists a 160 cm bed with high-end bedding, a raised dining shelf, a two-person seat with integrated storage, and a compact kitchen. The photovoltaic system and water reserve are stored beneath the bed. The builder does not publish a floor plan or total floor area on its project page, so those dimensions cannot be used to assess the layout’s exact circulation or usable area.

Kitchen and dining
The specified kitchen has a two-burner gas hob, a 90 L black refrigerator, a 45 L built-in oven, a single-bowl sink, and pan drawers. Homecrux describes the breakfast counter as also serving as a work surface, a useful dual purpose when one small room needs to support both meals and laptop use. Homecrux’s October 5, 2026 feature offers a secondary room-by-room description.
Sleeping and storage
The bed is raised, but it is not a loft: it remains part of the main-level arrangement rather than requiring a climb to an elevated sleeping mezzanine. Homecrux reports drawers beneath the bed and storage in the seating bench; Plume Habitat also specifies integrated storage in the two-person seat and places the water reserve and photovoltaic system beneath the bed. The sources do not state the bed’s access height or provide a dimensioned plan.

Bathroom
The bathroom has sliding-door access, a waxed-concrete wall finish, LVT flooring, an 80 × 80 cm shower with a glazed door, and a mechanized Ecodomeo dry toilet. The builder also lists a basin. These specifications establish the fittings, but do not provide a bathroom floor plan or accessibility measurements.

Atelier du Mas uses a spruce frame with recycled cotton-wool insulation. Its braked, double-axle chassis is hot-dip galvanized steel, and the exterior is clad in French thermally treated poplar. Inside, the walls and ceiling use maritime pine plywood; the floor is vitrified solid spruce, and the fittings are semi-solid spruce. An anthracite sinus-profile steel roof and anthracite double-glazed aluminum windows complete the listed construction.

The large atelier-style window is a central part of the brief: Plume Habitat says it was chosen to open views onto the surrounding nature and help the structure sit harmoniously beside the existing property. That makes the window more than an exterior detail; it ties the compact indoor stay to its garden setting.
Power, water, and heating: listed equipment, not measured performance
Plume Habitat lists a 1200 W photovoltaic system, a 230 V hybrid inverter, and Victron lithium batteries. Electrical equipment is described as a Legrand and Schneider network. Water and heating specifications include a 40 L electric water heater, a 1500 W electric radiator, a 3 kW wood stove, and multilayer plumbing with crimped fittings and copper.

Who this layout may suit—and what to check in another tiny house
Atelier du Mas demonstrates a design choice for a couple’s holiday accommodation: keep sleeping at ground level and use the freed-up height for a lower exterior profile. Whether that trade-off works in another home depends on its occupants, intended stay, and floor plan. A loft-free layout avoids climbing to bed, while the actual space available for circulation and storage still depends on dimensions the project page does not provide.

When comparing compact homes, examine the features that determine day-to-day use rather than treating “no loft” as a complete measure of comfort:
- Sleeping access and separation: note whether the bed is on the main level, how it is accessed, and whether it is separated from the living area.
- Circulation and usable area: look for a dimensioned floor plan; a single level does not by itself show how easily people move around.
- Storage: check what is built into beds, benches, and kitchen fittings, and whether those solutions fit the intended stay.
- Daylight and outlook: consider window placement alongside privacy and the site’s views.
- Systems and occupancy: match heating, electrical equipment, water capacity, and cooking facilities to the number of guests and length of stay; listed equipment is not the same as independently measured operating performance.

Plume Habitat says Atelier du Mas was designed and built for the Pépiite network. Its project page directs prospective guests to Pépiite or Mas des Écoliers for a stay, and prospective clients to Plume Habitat for custom-project inquiries. Availability and booking terms are not specified on the project page.
