The ASUSTOR LOCKERSTOR 2 Gen2+ AS6702T v2 is a two-bay NAS for buyers who can make use of dual 5GbE networking and four NVMe slots—not a value pick for basic file storage. Its strongest features are unusual at this size, but an older Celeron processor, modest per-slot NVMe bandwidth, screw-mounted drive trays, and a relatively high price make the purchase worthwhile only when those features fit your setup.

What the AS6702T v2 offers

ASUSTOR’s product page and datasheet describe a two-bay NAS with two 2.5/3.5-inch SATA III bays, four PCIe 3.0 M.2 NVMe slots, and two 5GbE network ports. It starts with 4GB of DDR4-2933 SO-DIMM memory and supports up to 16GB. Connections also include two USB 10Gbps ports, one USB 2.0 port, and HDMI. The manufacturer lists an Intel Celeron N5105, rated at 2.0GHz with boost up to 2.9GHz, and support for ADM 5.0 onward.

TechRadar’s October 11, 2026 review identifies the processor as a four-core, four-thread chip and the four M.2 2280 slots as PCIe 3.0 x1. It reports 8GB of eMMC storage, HDMI 2.0b, ADM 5.1, and a three-year warranty. Hardware Busters also reports 8GB eMMC, M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0 x1 slots, EXT4 and Btrfs internal filesystem options, and a three-year warranty. These are reviewer-reported details; consult ASUSTOR’s current product and support information for the latest specifications and firmware.

How it differs from the earlier AS6702T

The defining change from the earlier Lockerstor 2 Gen2 AS6702T is the move from dual 2.5GbE to dual 5GbE. The N5105 processor and 4GB starting memory remain. Do not assume the two-bay v2 accepts ASUSTOR’s optional 10GbE card: ASUSTOR’s product information says the AS6702T and AS6702T v2 do not support that card.

How fast is it in real use?

The faster ports create headroom, but the results depend on the drives, clients, network, and configuration. TechRadar tested two WD Red Plus 2TB drives in RAID 1 over a 2.5GbE network and measured approximately 230MB/s reads and 181MB/s writes. The review says results were similar without its read-cache SSD. In RAID 0 without SSD cache, it measured around 232MB/s reads and 236MB/s writes; RAID 0 increases the risk of losing the volume if either drive fails.

Those are TechRadar results under its specified drive and 2.5GbE test conditions, not a full 5GbE benchmark or a performance guarantee. They show why simply buying a NAS with 5GbE does not ensure file transfers will approach the interface’s full potential: the storage and the rest of the network matter too.

Vendor figures versus review measurements

ASUSTOR advertises up to 837MB/s reads and 754MB/s writes using SMB Multichannel across two links. The manufacturer labels its product-page results as optimized lab performance, using optimized client computers and network settings; ordinary setups may not reproduce them. TechRadar also reports ASUSTOR SSD-based figures of about 591MB/s in each direction over one link and about 1,050MB/s with both links aggregated, also as optimized-lab results. These vendor figures should not be treated as independent review measurements.

Hardware Busters describes its own testing with one and two 5GbE links, SATA SSDs in RAID 1, and an NVMe drive tested both as cache and as a volume. Its sample ran ADM 5.0.0.RHN2 and used two ADATA SU800 256GB SATA SSDs plus a WD_BLACK SN7100 1TB NVMe drive. The review’s setup is useful context, but its test configuration is not a prediction of what every drive or network will deliver.

What the four NVMe slots are good for—and their limits

The four M.2 slots can be used for NVMe storage pools or cache, and TechRadar says an SSD can also host an ADM or app volume. That flexibility is a major reason to consider this model if a two-bay NAS with SSD options suits your plan. The key limitation is that each slot is PCIe 3.0 x1; TechRadar says a single SSD is therefore limited to roughly 1GB/s. Four slots offer capacity and configuration choices, not four unrestricted high-bandwidth links.

The reviewer notes that M.2 volumes support more RAID layouts than the two SATA bays: it lists RAID 5, 6, and 10 for M.2 volumes, while the SATA bays support Single, JBOD, RAID 0, or RAID 1. ASUSTOR lists RAID 0/1 among the SATA volume types on its product materials. Confirm the current drive compatibility list and volume options before purchasing; these sources do not establish universal drive compatibility or a hard maximum capacity.

TechRadar advises using a UPS with SSD cache because power loss can risk corruption of the data volume. That is a practical consideration for an always-on system, especially if the cache or SSD configuration is important to your workload.

ADM software and workload fit

TechRadar’s unit ran ADM 5.1.4.RM62, while Hardware Busters tested ADM 5.0.0.RHN2. TechRadar describes ADM as competent, with about 150 official apps in App Central, but says it is less deep than Synology’s software in some areas. Those observations apply to the versions and software areas it assessed, rather than establishing how every current ADM feature compares.

TechRadar characterizes Surveillance Center as simple, VirtualBox use as awkward, snapshots as applying to whole volumes rather than individual shared folders, and the backup and sync apps it assessed as lacking file versioning. Hardware Busters says it tried Docker, Jellyfin, and Photo Gallery and audited fresh-install security settings. Buyers who depend on a particular app, snapshot scope, versioning workflow, or container behavior should check the current ADM documentation and test their intended setup before relying on it.

Build, upgrades, and everyday trade-offs

TechRadar praises the metal chassis, hot-swappable bays, memory expansion to 16GB, and three-year warranty. It also criticizes the drive trays for requiring screws and says reaching internal upgrades requires case disassembly. That makes the NAS less convenient to service than a tool-free design, even though the memory can be expanded.

The N5105 is the same processor carried over from the prior model, and TechRadar considers it ageing compared with processors in some alternatives. For file serving and a network- and NVMe-focused setup, the port and slot provision may matter more than processor novelty. For virtual machines, heavier container workloads, or demanding media tasks, weigh the CPU and 4GB starting memory carefully; moving to the 16GB maximum adds memory headroom but does not change the processor.

TechRadar compares the NAS with Ugreen’s DXP2800 and DXP2800 GT and Synology’s DS225+, noting that those options may offer newer processors or lower prices, while the AS6702T v2 counters with four M.2 slots, dual 5GbE, its build, and three-year warranty. Which is preferable depends on current prices and the buyer’s needs; the comparison does not make one model a universal winner.

Buy it if

  • You have, or plan to build, a multigigabit network with clients and network equipment that can use the faster links.
  • You specifically want four M.2 slots for NVMe pools, cache, or an ADM/app volume in a two-bay chassis.
  • You value dual 5GbE and the combination of SATA bays and NVMe options enough to justify the price and older processor.

Look elsewhere if

  • You mainly need an inexpensive two-drive file server and will not use 5GbE or NVMe.
  • Your priority is a newer CPU for virtualization, heavier containers, or media workloads.
  • You want tool-free drive installation or simple internal access for upgrades.

Check the whole setup before deciding

Assess the number of SATA bays against your capacity needs, whether your switch, cabling, clients, and SMB Multichannel configuration can use dual 5GbE, and whether NVMe pools or cache are genuinely useful to your workflow. Also account for CPU and memory demands, ADM features and backup approach, upgrade convenience, and the cost of drives and any optional SSDs. TechRadar notes that two HDDs may not saturate even one 5GbE link and that SSDs or cache are needed to make fuller use of the faster ports; treat that as the reviewer’s assessment, not a rule for every drive and workload.
