The ASUS TUF GAMING X570-PLUS has two M.2 sockets—M.2_1 and M.2_2—and eight SATA 6 Gb/s connectors. Both M.2 sockets accept SATA or PCIe M.2 storage, but the PCIe generation available in M.2_1 depends on the processor. The standard X570-PLUS is distinct from the Wi-Fi and other variants; check the exact model name before applying these specifications.
How many M.2 slots does the TUF GAMING X570-PLUS have?
There are two M.2 sockets, labeled M.2_1 and M.2_2. They are separate from the motherboard’s eight SATA 6 Gb/s connectors. ASUS lists the M.2 socket modes and supported module sizes in its TUF GAMING X570-PLUS user manual and tech specifications.
Does the board support NVMe SSDs?
Yes. Both sockets support PCIe storage, so a compatible PCIe/NVMe M.2 SSD can be used. ASUS also lists NVMe SSD RAID support on the product overview. The M.2 form factor describes the module’s shape and connector; it does not by itself identify its protocol. SATA M.2 drives are supported too, so check a drive’s interface rather than relying on “M.2” in its product name.
How do the two M.2 sockets differ?

These are supported interface modes, not guaranteed SSD benchmark results. The negotiated mode depends on the processor and drive, and ASUS cautions that actual transfer speed is below the theoretical maximum. ASUS’s product page describes dual PCIe 4.0 M.2 capability; read that alongside the manual’s CPU qualification for M.2_1 rather than assuming every processor enables Gen 4 in both sockets.

What size M.2 SSD fits?
Both sockets support M-key modules in four lengths: 2242, 2260, 2280, and 22110. The four-digit size code identifies the module’s width and length; for example, 2280 is 22 mm wide and 80 mm long. Match the SSD length to a mounting point shown in the manual’s board diagrams.
Which socket should you use?
Choose based on the drive’s protocol, your processor, and the SSD’s physical length. If you want a PCIe 4.0 drive in M.2_1, confirm that your processor is a supported third-generation Ryzen model. M.2_2 is the chipset-connected PCIe 4.0 x4 option. Either socket also supports a SATA M.2 drive, but a SATA drive does not become NVMe simply because it fits an M.2 socket.

- Check the exact motherboard model and processor support before buying.
- Confirm the SSD uses SATA or PCIe/NVMe and select a socket accordingly.
- Verify the module length—2242, 2260, 2280, or 22110—against the available mounting position.
- Do not treat a drive’s advertised maximum speed as a promised result on this board; real transfer speed can be lower than the interface’s theoretical limit.
Does installing an M.2 drive disable SATA ports?
The cited manual and specifications establish eight SATA connectors, but the reviewed documentation does not establish that using either M.2 socket disables particular SATA ports. Do not assume a port-sharing rule from another motherboard model. If simultaneous use of all connectors matters, consult the manual for the exact board revision and configuration.
What else is needed to install an M.2 SSD?
ASUS states in the manual: “The M.2 SSD module is purchased separately.” The manual lists an M.2 screw package among the accessories and shows socket positions and mounting locations. ASUS’s product overview identifies an M.2 heatsink. Check that the screw and mounting point are present before installation; the cited materials do not establish which drive will run cooler.
