The ASUS ROG Strix XG32UQWMS offers two distinct ways to play on its 31.5-inch Tandem WOLED panel: native 4K at 240Hz for detailed games, or 1080p at 480Hz for high-refresh competitive play. That flexibility is its central appeal—and its key compromise, because the faster mode cuts resolution to 1920×1080. Tom’s Hardware judged it a strong, versatile option around a $900 budget in its review published August 23, 2026; that is a dated reviewer assessment, not a current price or universal ranking.
What the XG32UQWMS is, and what its dual mode changes
This is a 31.5-inch-viewable 4K OLED gaming monitor with a glossy surface ASUS calls TrueBlack Glossy. Its dual mode switches between two resolution-and-refresh combinations:
| Mode | Resolution | Refresh rate | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| UHD | 3840 × 2160 (4K) | 240Hz | Detailed single-player games and general use |
| FHD | 1920 × 1080 (1080p) | 480Hz | Competitive games where very high refresh matters more than image detail |
The 480Hz setting is not 4K at a higher refresh rate: it halves the refresh-mode resolution to 1080p. On a 31.5-inch screen, that makes fine detail and text visibly less crisp than at native 4K, particularly at a typical desktop viewing distance. Whether the trade is worthwhile depends on the games you play, how close you sit, your sensitivity to image sharpness, and whether your PC can deliver frame rates that make the higher refresh useful.

How fast does it feel in games?
Tom’s Hardware’s Christian Eberle described the monitor as among the quickest and smoothest 4K OLED displays tested in that review. The review included response and input-lag testing, and its conclusion emphasized speed and versatility. Windows Central’s reviewer likewise reported smooth 240Hz operation and considered 240Hz sufficient for their own use, while recognizing that 480Hz may appeal to highly competitive shooter players. These are reviewers’ findings and preferences, not a guarantee of identical results on every unit or system.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For many players, the practical question is less “Can I select 480Hz?” than “Will I consistently benefit from it?” If you mostly play cinematic or visually demanding games, the 4K/240Hz mode preserves the detail that makes a 32-inch-class display compelling. If you play fast competitive shooters and prioritize motion clarity and response, 1080p/480Hz offers a higher refresh ceiling—but only if your system and games can produce the frames to use it.
Image quality, color, and brightness claims
What ASUS specifies
ASUS lists a 0.03ms GTG response time, G-SYNC compatibility, VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500, 99.5% DCI-P3 coverage, true 10-bit color, and Delta E below 2. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements of every retail unit. ASUS also attributes improvements to its Tandem WOLED design, claiming 15% higher peak brightness, 25% larger color volume, and 60% longer OLED lifespan compared with previous-generation WOLED panels. Those comparisons are ASUS’s claims; they should not be read as a measured guarantee of brightness or lifespan for an individual owner.

What reviewers observed
Tom’s Hardware reported more than 108% DCI-P3 coverage on its review sample and HDR peaks between 600 and 1,500 nits. Those are results from that outlet’s testing, not guaranteed performance across modes or units. PC Gamer’s July 2026 review coverage reported a 330-nit full-screen brightness rating and a 1,500-nit HDR peak specification; the full-screen figure and a small-area HDR peak describe different conditions and should not be treated as interchangeable.

Windows Central’s reviewer measured roughly 306–311 nits at maximum brightness in the default mode and about 99% DCI-P3 on its sample, noting that adjustments might be needed to reach 330 nits. Differences among these figures can reflect mode, settings, calibration, sample variation, and measurement method. In practical terms, OLED’s deep blacks and contrast can make HDR scenes look striking, but a high peak-brightness number does not mean the display sustains that brightness across the whole screen.

Glossy finish, desktop use, and OLED care
Windows Central’s reviewer found 4K desktop text clear and room reflections tolerable on the glossy panel. A glossy finish can preserve a rich-looking image, but reflections depend on room lighting and where windows or lamps sit relative to the screen. If your room is bright, consider placement and light sources before choosing a glossy display.
ASUS’s OLED Care Pro includes a Neo Proximity Sensor that can detect when the user steps away and transition the screen to black. This can reduce the time static content remains displayed and therefore mitigate burn-in risk; it does not eliminate OLED wear or guarantee that burn-in cannot occur.

Connections, stand, and warranty
ASUS lists DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC, HDMI 2.1, and a USB hub, and describes the stand as compact. The accessible product overview does not establish port counts, the stand’s full adjustment range, or mount compatibility, so confirm those details in the specification sheet for your region before buying accessories or planning a desk setup. ASUS’s overview page states a three-year warranty claim, but warranty coverage can vary by region; check the local terms for the exact model.

Tom’s Hardware’s August 23, 2026 review said buyers with about $900 to spend on a 32-inch 4K OLED should consider the XG32UQWMS among the best options at that time. The assessment is useful as a dated review judgment, not a current ranking. The monitor makes the most sense if you will actually use both modes: 4K/240Hz for detail and 1080p/480Hz when competitive play makes refresh the priority. If you expect to stay in one mode, compare current alternatives on that mode’s image quality, brightness, warranty, and price rather than paying for flexibility you will rarely use.
