A Reddit user says ASUS first replaced their white ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER OC with a black TUF GeForce RTX 5080, then approved a second replacement after the customer objected to the color. The account says the final card will be a white RTX 5080, although the exact board-partner model has not been identified.
What the Reddit post says happened
The customer described the original graphics card as a white ASUS ROG Strix RTX 4080 SUPER OC. In an update, the customer wrote: “Some of you might remember my post from a few weeks ago about ASUS sending me a black TUF RTX 5080 as a replacement for my white ROG Strix RTX 4080 SUPER OC.”
That first shipment changed the GPU generation and product tier, but it did not preserve the appearance of the customer’s all-white build. The post says the customer escalated the issue rather than accepting the black card. ASUS then reportedly approved a white RTX 5080 as a replacement.
The post does not identify the final white card’s exact model, cooler design, factory settings, or delivery date. It is a customer account on Reddit, not an ASUS press release, published warranty ruling, or confirmation of a company-wide replacement policy.

- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4. System Requirements: Minimum 850W PSU with 16-pin 12V-2x6 (12VHPWR) connector required. Verify before purchasing.
- Military-grade components deliver rock-solid power and longer lifespan for ultimate durability. Compatibility: 348mm (13.7") length, 3.6 slots, 4.3 lbs. Confirm case clearance and slot spacing. GPU bracket included.
- Protective PCB coating helps protect against short circuits caused by moisture, dust, or debris
- 3.6-slot design with massive fin array optimized for airflow from three Axial-tech fans
- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal thermal performance and longevity, outlasting traditional thermal paste for graphics cards under heavy loads
Why the second swap is the unusual part
Replacing a failed or otherwise eligible RTX 4080 SUPER with an RTX 5080 would already attract attention because the replacement belongs to a newer generation. The distinctive detail is that the customer says ASUS agreed to change the replacement again solely to address the mismatch between a black card and a white-themed system.
Color is normally a build-compatibility preference rather than a performance requirement. A black card can operate identically in a white case, but the visible shroud, backplate and lighting can matter to owners who have chosen a coordinated interior. In this account, that aesthetic concern became part of the escalation and reportedly changed the outcome.
What is—and is not—confirmed
- Original card: a white ASUS ROG Strix RTX 4080 SUPER OC, according to the customer.
- First replacement: a black ASUS TUF RTX 5080, according to the same account.
- Second decision: the customer says ASUS approved a white RTX 5080 after escalation.
- Final model: not named in the available post excerpt.
- Policy significance: unconfirmed. One Reddit report cannot establish ASUS’s standard RMA terms or guarantee that another customer will receive a newer-generation card or a color-matched model.
The account also does not state why the original card required replacement, whether the exchange was handled under warranty, or whether the customer paid anything. Those details should not be inferred from the GPU models alone.

What an all-white PC builder should check before buying
A white RTX 5080 listing is not automatically the same model the Reddit user received. Manufacturers and retailers can sell several cards based on the same GPU, with different coolers, dimensions, power arrangements and warranty conditions. Before ordering, verify each item on the current ASUS or retailer product page:
Exact model and exterior
Check the complete board name, not just “white RTX 5080.” Confirm which surfaces are white, whether the backplate matches, and whether accents, fans or cables remain black. Product photos can show lighting or optional accessories, so compare the written specification and unboxing images where available.
Case fit and cooling
Record the card’s length, height, thickness and slot usage, then compare those measurements with the case’s graphics-card clearance. A visually similar white card can use a substantially larger cooler. Also check radiator, front-fan and power-cable clearance before installing it.

- Quad-fan design boosts air flow and pressure by up to 20%
- Patented vapor chamber with milled heatspreader for lower GPU temperatures
Power and cabling
Confirm the listed power connector, recommended power-supply capacity and any adapter included with the specific model. Do not assume that two RTX 5080 cards from different ASUS families use identical cables or have the same clearance around the connector.
Warranty, returns and stock
Read the warranty region, registration requirements, dead-on-arrival process and retailer return window. Availability and pricing can change, and the supplied Reddit account does not provide a current price or stock confirmation. A product page should also make clear whether the listing is sold by the retailer or a third-party marketplace seller.

The reported outcome is encouraging for builders who care about appearance, but it should be treated as a case-by-case accommodation. A replacement program may prioritize equivalent functionality, available inventory or the terms of the original purchase; those factors can differ by country, retailer and warranty status. Anyone requesting a color-matched exchange should document the original model, photograph the build, explain the compatibility or appearance requirement clearly, and obtain the approved replacement model in writing before shipping hardware back.
Until ASUS confirms the transaction directly, the safest conclusion is limited: one Reddit customer says a black RTX 5080 was replaced again with an approved white RTX 5080 after escalation. The final card’s identity and the reason ASUS granted that exception remain unknown.
