To reduce burn-in risk on an ASUS ProArt P16 OLED, leave ASUS OLED Care enabled in MyASUS, keep pixel shift and pixel refresh active, allow the display to turn off when you step away, and avoid leaving bright, unchanging content on screen for long periods. ASUS says the ProArt P16 ships with these protections enabled by default. Brightness, idle-time behavior and what you do during long creative sessions matter more than trying to eliminate every brief afterimage.
What OLED burn-in means on the ProArt P16
OLED pixels produce their own light. Over long periods, different pixels can age at different rates when they repeatedly show fixed elements such as spreadsheet grids, editing timelines, application toolbars or a bright desktop. The uneven wear can eventually leave a persistent outline or tint, commonly called burn-in. ASUS specifically warns that displaying static images at maximum brightness for extended periods can cause permanent burn-in damage to an OLED display.
A short-lived afterimage is not automatically burn-in. Temporary image retention can appear after a high-contrast scene or a fixed window and may fade when the panel rests or completes its protection routine. Treat a mark as potentially serious only if it remains after the display has been allowed to rest and after normal protection cycles have completed.
Set up ASUS OLED Care in MyASUS
MyASUS is the control point ASUS provides for the laptop’s OLED protections. Menu names can vary slightly by MyASUS version and regional software image, but the controls are found in the device-settings area where ASUS OLED Care is presented.

- Open MyASUS from Windows.
- Open the section for your device settings and select ASUS OLED Care.
- Confirm that Pixel shift is enabled.
- Confirm that Pixel refresh is enabled when the toggle is available.
- Leave Windows display timeout and sleep behavior active rather than configuring the laptop to show a static desktop indefinitely.
- Close MyASUS without disabling OLED Care simply because you notice a subtle movement of content.
ASUS describes pixel shift as a small movement of the displayed pixels. The movement is intended to prevent the same pixels from continuously carrying a fixed image and is designed to be unobtrusive during normal work. Pixel refresh is described as a special screen saver that starts after 30 minutes of idleness and refreshes the pixels.
What each protection does
| Protection or habit | How it operates | What you should do | Trade-off or limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pixel shift | Moves the displayed image slightly so static elements do not always use exactly the same pixels. | Keep it enabled in ASUS OLED Care. | The shift can be faintly noticeable; disabling it removes a protection without preventing the underlying static-image exposure. |
| Pixel refresh | Starts a special screen saver after 30 minutes of idleness, according to ASUS MyASUS guidance. | Leave the toggle enabled and allow the cycle to run when it appears. | The screen may not remain available for uninterrupted work while the routine is active. |
| Pixel cleaning | Calibrates issues that can arise after the display has been operating for a long time. | Keep the laptop powered and let the routine finish. | ASUS says the process takes approximately six minutes and must not be interrupted by unplugging power. |
| Windows display timeout and sleep | Turns the panel off when you are away instead of leaving an unchanging desktop visible. | Use a short, practical timeout for battery and AC use. | A very short timeout can interrupt reading or rendering setup, so choose a delay that fits your workflow. |
| Moderate brightness | Reduces the stress associated with a bright, fixed image. | Use the lowest comfortable brightness for long static tasks. | Maximum brightness is useful for brief bright-room work, but is the setting ASUS warns against for extended static display. |
Brightness and content habits that lower risk
Do not combine maximum brightness with a fixed layout
The highest-risk pattern described by ASUS is a static image held at maximum brightness for an extended period. This can happen during an all-day spreadsheet, a video-editing timeline left open while you work elsewhere, or application chrome that never moves. Lower brightness when the content will remain substantially unchanged for a long session. The goal is not a particular numerical percentage; comfortable brightness below the maximum is the safer practical choice.
Let the panel turn off when you leave
Windows display timeout and sleep settings are burn-in controls as well as power controls. Configure the display to switch off after a short period of inactivity, especially when the laptop is connected to power and you might walk away. A black screen is preferable to leaving the same desktop, browser tab or paused video visible for hours.

Build movement into long creative sessions
When a project requires a fixed interface, periodically switch windows, collapse panels, scroll through the document or take a break that allows the display to turn off. Moving content is preferable to keeping a high-contrast arrangement frozen. You do not need to constantly animate the screen; avoiding uninterrupted static exposure is the useful habit.
Use dark or less contrast-heavy layouts when practical
A darker interface can reduce the intensity of large fixed areas, but it is not a substitute for timeout, pixel shift or pixel refresh. A dark theme still contains static menus, logos and timeline controls, so retain the OLED Care protections even when your applications use dark mode.
How pixel refresh and pixel cleaning differ
Pixel refresh is the automated idle protection exposed through MyASUS. ASUS says it launches after 30 minutes of idleness as a special screen saver. You should not cancel it merely because it appears unexpectedly; its purpose is to refresh the pixels without requiring you to start a manual maintenance process.

Pixel cleaning is a calibration routine described in ASUS OLED protection guidance. It addresses issues that may arise after the display has been on for a long time. ASUS states that the process takes approximately six minutes, activates when the display turns off, and should not be interrupted by unplugging the power cord.
- Save your work before allowing an automatic refresh or cleaning routine to begin.
- Connect the ProArt P16 to reliable power if a cleaning cycle is starting or if MyASUS asks for a refresh.
- Let the screen remain off for the full routine; do not force a shutdown, close the lid if that would cut power, or unplug the charger.
- After the cycle, return to normal use and check whether the temporary mark has faded.
The six-minute figure is ASUS’s approximate duration for pixel cleaning, not a guarantee that every refresh event will take exactly that long. The laptop’s firmware, MyASUS version and the type of protection cycle can affect what you see.
If an image remains on the screen
First, determine whether it is temporary retention
Stop displaying the affected content, reduce brightness and allow the panel to rest with the display turned off. Do not repeatedly recreate the same high-contrast image to check it. If the mark fades after rest or a normal protection cycle, it was likely temporary retention rather than permanent burn-in.

Allow the protection cycle to complete
If pixel refresh or pixel cleaning starts, keep the laptop powered until it finishes. Interrupting a cycle by removing power can prevent the calibration from completing. ASUS’s guidance specifically says not to unplug the power cord during pixel cleaning.
Escalate a persistent mark
If the image remains after the display has rested and after repeated, normal protection cycles, record when it appears, which content caused it and whether it is visible at different brightness levels. Contact ASUS support for a diagnosis. Do not assume that a particular repair or replacement is covered: burn-in remedies and warranty terms depend on the country and the exact ProArt P16 SKU.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesA practical routine for different types of work
| Work pattern | Recommended routine | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Office documents or spreadsheets | Use a comfortable, non-maximum brightness; keep timeout active; switch windows or let the screen turn off during breaks. | Grids, headers and sidebars can remain fixed for many hours. |
| Photo and video editing | Keep pixel shift enabled, avoid leaving a paused timeline or full-screen still at maximum brightness, and allow idle refresh during longer breaks. | Creative applications often combine large static panels with bright, high-contrast controls. |
| Color-critical review | Use the brightness required for the task only for the review period, then return to a lower comfortable level and let the display sleep afterward. | Short, purposeful high-brightness checks are different from leaving a static image displayed all day. |
| Travel or battery use | Keep OLED Care enabled and use a shorter display timeout if you frequently close the laptop or walk away. | Battery-saving behavior also limits unattended static display time. |
| External-monitor workflow | When the internal OLED is not needed, allow it to turn off rather than leaving the same desktop mirrored on both screens. | The internal panel receives no exposure while it is off. |
Cleaning the ProArt P16 OLED safely
OLED Care addresses pixel behavior; it does not replace physical panel care. Clean only the exterior surface. Use a soft, dry cloth or a method specifically approved in the laptop’s manufacturer instructions. Never spray liquid directly onto the panel, because fluid can run into the bezel or other openings. Do not press hard, scrape at marks or use abrasive material. If a spot does not come off with gentle surface cleaning, treat it as a possible display issue rather than escalating pressure.

Common mistakes and their fixes
- Turning off pixel shift because movement is visible: Leave it enabled. ASUS designed the movement to be unobtrusive, and disabling it removes a protection.
- Disabling pixel refresh to avoid interruptions: Keep it active and plan breaks or save work before leaving the laptop idle.
- Leaving a paused project open overnight: Use a display timeout and sleep setting so the panel turns off while unattended.
- Running maximum brightness for every task: Reserve maximum brightness for situations that require it and lower the level for long static work.
- Unplugging during pixel cleaning: Keep power connected until the approximately six-minute process is complete.
- Assuming every afterimage is permanent: Let the panel rest and finish its normal protection cycle before seeking service.
- Using a third-party utility as a replacement for OLED Care: ASUS documents MyASUS as the place to manage these controls; unsupported utilities should not be treated as equivalent protection.
Warranty and support expectations
ASUS’s OLED protection guidance and product information explain how the controls work, but service coverage is not identical worldwide. Whether a persistent mark qualifies for warranty service depends on the country, sales region and exact ProArt P16 SKU. Check the warranty documentation supplied for your unit and provide ASUS support with the model identifier, purchase details and a description of the symptom. A support agent may ask you to complete standard troubleshooting before determining the available remedy.
The settings that matter most
For everyday ownership, the highest-value configuration is simple: ASUS OLED Care stays enabled, pixel shift stays on, pixel refresh remains available, and Windows turns the display off when you are away. Pair those settings with moderate brightness during static work and let every cleaning cycle finish on power. Those steps address the specific exposure pattern ASUS identifies as hazardous without preventing the ProArt P16 from being used for demanding creative work.
