Choose the ASUS Pad if you want a large Android tablet built around a 12.2-inch 2.8K OLED display, 144Hz refresh, ASUS-to-PC features and a comparatively light 523g body. Choose an iPad if you specifically need iPadOS, Apple-device integration, or one of Apple’s distinct size and performance tiers. There is no single “best” choice: the right answer depends on your apps, phone and computer, preferred screen size, accessories, and the exact local price.
The ASUS Pad (T3201) was announced on June 2, 2026, so its retail price, stock, warranty terms and update policy must be checked in your country. Apple’s current families range from the compact iPad mini (A17 Pro) to the 11- and 13-inch iPad Air (M4) and iPad Pro (M5), plus the standard iPad (A16). Compare a specific configuration, not the ASUS Pad with an abstract “iPad.”
The short answer
For Android users who value a spacious, fast-refreshing display and Windows-PC continuity, the announced ASUS Pad is the more natural fit. Its headline configuration combines a 12.2-inch 2.8K dual-layer OLED panel, 144Hz refresh, a 523g chassis, a 6.5mm profile and a 9,000mAh battery. ASUS also names GlideX screen sharing and file transfer, ASUS Pen 2.0 support, Bluetooth keyboard support and an included protective case.

For people already invested in Apple devices or iPadOS apps, an iPad is usually the lower-friction choice. Apple’s current range is deliberately segmented: iPad mini for portability, standard iPad for general use, iPad Air for a higher-performance middle tier, and iPad Pro for the most demanding workflows. Features and accessory compatibility vary by generation, region, language and carrier, so “iPad” is not one specification.

ASUS’s hardware numbers are manufacturer-announced claims, not independent test results. They do not establish real-world battery life, sustained performance or display quality. Likewise, the announcement does not establish a universal ASUS launch price or availability.
What is actually being compared?
ASUS Pad (T3201)
ASUS describes the T3201 as its return to the tablet category after several years and specifies Android 16. It is an Android slate rather than a Windows detachable. ASUS’s US category also lists Windows tablet and 2-in-1 products, including detachable-keyboard models; those are a different product category and should not be substituted for the Android ASUS Pad when comparing these devices.
Apple’s current iPad families
Apple’s comparison page identifies four current families:
| Family | Current chip named by Apple | Sizes identified by Apple | What that means for a buyer |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPad Pro | M5 | 11-inch and 13-inch | Apple’s highest-tier tablet family; choose a specific size, storage and connectivity configuration. |
| iPad Air | M4 | 11-inch and 13-inch | A performance-focused middle tier with two screen sizes. |
| iPad | A16 | Apple’s standard iPad family | The mainstream option; exact storage, connectivity and accessory support depend on the model sold in your market. |
| iPad mini | A17 Pro | Compact mini family | The portability-first choice; do not assume its accessories or screen dimensions match larger iPads. |
Apple’s iPadOS 26 compatibility guide covers specific generations and models. It also notes that some features depend on model, region, language and carrier. A current iPad family name alone is not enough to establish software support or feature availability.
Display and portability
Where the ASUS Pad has a clear specification advantage
ASUS announces a 12.2-inch, 2.8K dual-layer OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate. The large diagonal is useful for split-screen documents, drawing canvases, films and games, while 144Hz can make scrolling and supported motion appear smoother than a lower-refresh display. Those are specification-level observations; the announcement does not provide independent measurements of brightness, color accuracy, response time or battery impact at 144Hz.
The announced 523g weight and 6.5mm profile are important when the tablet is carried every day. Weight distribution, case weight and keyboard weight can materially change the experience, so assess the complete setup rather than the bare tablet.

Why an iPad may still be the better size
Apple offers a broader size spread. The iPad mini is aimed at readers who want a smaller device, while 11-inch and 13-inch Pro and Air models cover more conventional tablet and laptop-replacement proportions. The standard iPad occupies its own size and price position. Apple’s comparison material does not make one display specification universal across these families, so compare the exact model’s dimensions, weight, panel and refresh behavior before buying.

- Reading on public transport: the iPad mini’s compact form may be easier to hold than a 12.2-inch tablet, even if the ASUS Pad offers more working area.
- Split-screen study: the ASUS Pad’s announced 12.2-inch panel and the 13-inch iPad Air or Pro provide more room than compact models. Check the physical dimensions of the candidate and its case.
- Desk-based creative work: prioritize the app you use, pen compatibility and palm-rejection behavior over refresh rate alone.
- Travel: compare the tablet, charger, protective case and keyboard as a single carry load.
Operating systems and app ecosystems
Android 16 on the ASUS Pad
Android 16 gives the ASUS Pad access to Android applications and the normal Android account, notification and sharing model. That is advantageous if your phone, services and file habits are already Android-based. The evidence available here does not establish whether a particular professional, school or creative app has feature parity between Android and iPadOS. Check the exact application’s current Android requirements, tablet layout and offline behavior.
iPadOS 26 on supported iPads
Apple’s iPadOS 26 compatibility guide lists supported generations and models rather than treating every iPad identically. Some functions vary by model and by region, language or carrier. If you are buying an older or discounted iPad, verify the exact model identifier against Apple’s compatibility list before assuming it receives every iPadOS 26 feature.
Use the app test before comparing hardware
- Write down the applications you use for work, school, drawing, video, communication and authentication.
- Check each developer’s Android and iPadOS listing for tablet support, required operating-system version, subscription limits and offline features.
- Test how files move between the tablet and your computer: cloud drive, USB, local network or a managed school or business system.
- Confirm that required browser extensions, fonts, plug-ins, external displays and specialized accessories exist on the platform you choose.
Neither the ASUS announcement nor Apple’s comparison proves that one platform has the better app for your particular task. The app and workflow check is therefore more reliable than a generic ecosystem ranking.
PC and device integration
ASUS GlideX
ASUS says GlideX supports screen sharing, file transfers and multi-device workflows between tablets and PCs. This can appeal to Windows users who want the tablet to act as an additional screen or a nearby file-and-control surface. The announcement does not specify every supported PC model, network condition, latency level or feature restriction. Confirm compatibility with your computer and the current regional software version.

Apple-device continuity
An iPad can be the more convenient choice when your daily devices and services are already Apple-based, but the useful features depend on the exact iPad, operating-system versions and account settings. Confirm the functions you actually need rather than assuming every iPad supports every continuity feature.

If your computer is Windows
Do not assume that buying an Android ASUS Pad automatically reproduces a Windows 2-in-1 experience. A tablet can share files or a screen with a PC without running desktop Windows applications locally. If you need full Windows software, compare a Windows detachable or laptop separately; that is a different decision from ASUS Pad versus iPad.
Pen, keyboard and case decisions
ASUS accessories
ASUS names ASUS Pen 2.0 support and Bluetooth keyboard support for the Pad. It also says a protective case is included in the box. Box contents and accessory compatibility can vary by regional SKU, so verify the package listing before assuming the case, pen or keyboard is included with the configuration you can purchase.
iPad accessories
Apple’s Pencil and keyboard options are generation-specific. The correct accessory depends on the exact iPad family, size and model year; an accessory that fits one 11-inch iPad is not automatically compatible with every other 11-inch iPad. Identify the model number first, then check Apple’s compatibility table and the local price of the required Pencil, keyboard and case.

- Handwritten notes: verify pen protocol, charging method, pressure sensitivity and the note-taking app’s platform support.
- Long typing sessions: compare key layout, trackpad availability, hinge or stand design and the combined weight.
- Travel protection: include the case in the size and weight comparison; a bundled case has value only if it protects the edges and supports your preferred viewing angle.
- Classroom or office use: confirm whether your institution supports Bluetooth accessories and whether managed-device policies limit pairing or file transfer.
Battery and charging
ASUS specifies a 9,000mAh battery and says it can fast-charge to up to 50% in 30 minutes. Both figures are manufacturer claims. They do not predict screen-on time because brightness, refresh rate, radios, games and background applications change consumption. The announcement does not provide an independently measured endurance result or a complete charger specification.
Apple’s product comparison identifies iPad families but the material available here does not provide a like-for-like battery-capacity or charging-speed comparison. Do not infer that the ASUS Pad will last longer, or that an iPad will charge faster, from capacity numbers alone. Compare the official battery-life estimate and included or required charger for the exact model sold in your region.
What to check before purchase
- Whether the charger is included and which charging standard it uses.
- How much the display’s high-refresh mode affects your expected use.
- Whether a keyboard, pen and case draw power or require separate charging.
- Replacement-charger availability in your country.
Price, stock and warranty: the part that cannot be generalized
The June 2, 2026 ASUS announcement does not establish a current local retail price, launch stock or warranty terms. Availability can differ by country and by storage or connectivity configuration. Check the ASUS store for your country and authorized sellers at the time you buy.

Apple pricing likewise depends on the exact family, storage, Wi-Fi or cellular configuration, promotions and region. A fair comparison must use matching variables:
| Variable | Why it changes the result |
|---|---|
| Storage | Two tablets with the same family name can have different capacities and prices. |
| Connectivity | Cellular models cost more and may involve carrier requirements. |
| Accessories | A tablet that appears cheaper may require a separately purchased pen, keyboard or case. |
| Warranty and support | Regional coverage, repair options and return periods affect total value. |
| Actual stock | An announced product is not necessarily available in your country or in every configuration. |
Do not conclude that ASUS is cheaper, or that an iPad is better value, until you have compared a real local listing with the same storage, connectivity, accessory needs and warranty coverage.
Software support and ownership over time
What is established for iPad
Apple publishes an iPadOS 26 compatibility guide listing supported models. Use that model-specific list when evaluating a new, refurbished or discounted iPad. Feature availability can still depend on region, language and carrier.
What still needs verification for ASUS Pad
The available ASUS announcement does not state a full operating-system update schedule or security-support commitment for the Pad. Before buying, look for current regional ASUS documentation that specifies update duration, security-patch policy and the process for receiving updates. Without that documentation, do not promise a particular support lifespan.
Questions to ask a seller
- What is the exact model number and regional SKU?
- Which Android or iPadOS version is installed at sale?
- What update and security-support policy applies to that SKU?
- Who provides warranty service in your country?
- Are replacement pens, keyboards, chargers and cases available locally?
Which tablet fits each type of buyer?
Choose ASUS Pad when these statements are true
- You want Android 16 rather than iPadOS.
- A 12.2-inch OLED screen and 144Hz refresh are more useful to you than a compact tablet.
- You work primarily with a PC and value ASUS’s GlideX screen-sharing and file-transfer features.
- You want to use ASUS Pen 2.0 or a Bluetooth keyboard and may benefit from an included protective case.
- The Pad is actually sold in your country at a competitive price with a warranty you can use.
Choose an iPad when these statements are true
- Your essential applications or services are designed around iPadOS.
- You already rely on Apple hardware and account-based continuity.
- You need a particular size tier, from iPad mini portability to a 13-inch Air or Pro workspace.
- You want to select among the current A16, A17 Pro, M4 and M5 families according to performance and budget.
- The exact model’s iPadOS 26 support and accessory compatibility meet your long-term needs.
Pause before buying either
- You have not checked whether your must-have apps support the platform.
- You are comparing the ASUS announcement with a vague “iPad” rather than one Apple model.
- You need a Windows desktop application to run locally.
- You cannot verify local stock, warranty, accessory supply or update policy.
A practical buying procedure
- Define the job: list your top three activities, such as reading, note-taking, video editing, gaming, office work or school assignments.
- Pick the operating system: eliminate any platform that cannot run your essential apps or connect to your required services.
- Select a physical size: decide whether one-handed portability or a large split-screen workspace matters more.
- Add the input hardware: price the compatible pen, keyboard, case and charger for the exact SKU.
- Verify support: check Apple’s iPadOS 26 model list or current regional ASUS support documentation.
- Compare local offers: use the same storage, connectivity, warranty and accessory assumptions for both candidates.
- Confirm return terms: a short hands-on trial is the best way to judge weight, keyboard comfort, glare, app behavior and pen latency.
Common comparison mistakes
Treating the ASUS Pad as a Windows tablet
The announced T3201 runs Android 16. ASUS’s separate Windows tablet and 2-in-1 products should not be folded into this comparison.

Using headline specifications as test results
The ASUS display, weight, thickness, battery capacity, chipset and charging figures come from ASUS’s announcement. They are not independent measurements of performance, endurance or image quality.
Ignoring the complete setup
A keyboard, pen, case and cellular plan can change both cost and portability. Compare the setup you will actually carry and use.
Assuming announcement equals availability
A press release does not prove that a product is stocked in your country. Check the local seller, warranty provider and return policy before placing an order.
Final decision
The ASUS Pad is the more compelling candidate for an Android-and-PC user who wants a large 12.2-inch OLED canvas, 144Hz refresh and ASUS-specific cross-device tools, provided the local package and support terms check out. An iPad is the safer choice when iPadOS apps, Apple-device integration, a particular mini/Air/Pro size, or Apple’s published model-specific software compatibility matters most.
Make the decision with one exact ASUS Pad listing and one exact iPad configuration in front of you. Verify apps, accessories, support, warranty and local total cost; the product family names alone cannot answer the question.
