Some ASUS laptops may outperform a MacBook Pro in gaming or GPU-heavy creative work, but the evidence does not establish that these five models are faster across the board. The deciding details are the exact ASUS configuration, the MacBook Pro chip and memory, and the workload being measured.
What “more powerful” means in this comparison
“More powerful” is workload-specific. ASUS models with high-power discrete NVIDIA laptop GPUs are plausible choices for gaming and GPU-accelerated creation. That does not prove they beat every MacBook Pro at CPU work, battery-powered tasks, or every application.
A fair comparison needs an exact MacBook Pro chip, screen size, memory configuration, application, and benchmark version, alongside the ASUS model’s precise CPU and GPU configuration. Laptop GPU names alone are not enough: power limits and cooling affect sustained performance. The cited evidence does not provide a common, independent benchmark set comparing all five ASUS configurations with one specified MacBook Pro.
Five ASUS models worth considering
This is a workload-oriented shortlist, not a tested ranking. Check the exact SKU and regional availability before comparing or buying.

1. ROG Strix SCAR 18 (2026) G835
ASUS lists a Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus and configurations with up to an RTX 5090 Laptop GPU at up to 175W maximum TGP. The product page also lists up to 128GB of memory and 8TB of PCIe Gen5 storage, though configurations vary by region and SKU. Its high GPU power limit makes it a strong candidate for gaming and GPU-heavy workloads; it does not establish superiority in every task. See ASUS’s 2026 ROG Strix SCAR 18 specifications.
2. ROG Zephyrus G16 (2026) GU606
ASUS lists a Core Ultra 9 386H and up to an RTX 5090 Laptop GPU. The thinner, more portable design makes cooling, GPU power limits, and sustained performance especially important comparison points. A maximum GPU option alone does not show how a specific G16 configuration performs over a long gaming session or render. Check ASUS’s Zephyrus G16 2026 specifications.

3. ProArt P16 H7606 with RTX 5090
TechRadar reviewed an H7606WX configuration with an RTX 5090 and reported that it could handle demanding 4K and many 8K projects. That is a review observation, not a direct MacBook Pro comparison. Do not conflate this reviewed configuration with other P16 variants: ASUS’s 2025 materials list models up to RTX 5070, with up to 64GB of memory and a 4TB SSD. TechRadar gave review-time pricing of around US$5,800 or £4,799; those dated figures are not current quotes. Read TechRadar’s ProArt P16 RTX 5090 review and check ASUS’s P16 product information.
4. ROG Zephyrus G14 (2026)
Tom’s Guide’s hands-on review describes strong gaming, creator, and AI performance, while noting Apple Silicon’s advantage in a key single-core measure. That finding is a reminder that “powerful” varies by task. The review’s claim should be applied to its specific G14 configuration, not assumed for every model or treated as proof of an overall win against all MacBook Pros. Read Tom’s Guide’s G14 2026 review.

5. ROG Strix SCAR 18 (2025) G835
The prior-generation SCAR 18 offered an RTX 5090 Laptop GPU option rated up to 175W maximum TGP, with up to 64GB of memory listed by ASUS. It may be worth comparing with the 2026 model if you find a suitable configuration, but weigh its exact GPU, memory, price, and availability against the newer machine. ASUS’s “The best of the best” wording on its product page is marketing language, not independent performance evidence. View ASUS’s 2025 SCAR 18 specifications.
What the available performance evidence does—and does not—show
GPU-heavy work is the clearest potential advantage
The 2026 SCAR 18’s RTX 5090 Laptop GPU is listed at up to 175W maximum TGP. ASUS lists the same maximum TGP for the 2025 SCAR 18 RTX 5090 option. Those specifications identify high-power GPU configurations, but do not by themselves prove a specific frame rate, render time, or win against a MacBook Pro. The GPU’s power limit, cooling, application support, and workload all matter.

A ProArt benchmark is not a MacBook Pro comparison
Tom’s Guide reported Geekbench 6 scores of 2,872 single-core and 15,286 multi-core for its tested ProArt P16 Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 configuration in 2024. These are results for that configuration and test; they are not a controlled comparison with a current MacBook Pro. See Tom’s Guide’s ProArt P16 review.
The MacBook Air result should not be transferred to MacBook Pro
AMD claimed that an ASUS Vivobook S15 with Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 was up to 6% faster overall in Procyon Office than a 15-inch MacBook Air M4. AMD says the tests were conducted in April 2025. This was a vendor comparison involving a MacBook Air, not a MacBook Pro; it is not evidence about the ProArt P16 or the five ASUS laptops listed here. Read AMD’s announcement and test qualification.

How to choose the right ASUS configuration
Start with the task you need the laptop to perform, then compare like with like. A gaming frame-rate result, 3D render, video export, and CPU benchmark answer different questions.
Quick Recap
- Define the workload. Identify the game or creative application, project settings, and whether the work uses the GPU, CPU, or both.
- Record the exact configurations. Note the ASUS model year and SKU, CPU, GPU, GPU power limit, and memory. For the MacBook Pro, identify the chip, screen size, and memory.
- Match the test conditions. Use the same application and version, comparable settings, and a benchmark or real task that applies to your work. Do not compare unrelated scores as if they measure one universal performance scale.
- Check sustained performance and practical trade-offs. Consider cooling, performance under a long workload, weight, battery life, and display—not just peak component specifications.
- Verify the exact regional configuration and price. ASUS configurations vary by market and SKU, and a review-time price may no longer be current.
Which model makes sense for which workload?
- Gaming or GPU-heavy work: Start by checking the high-power SCAR 18 configurations, then compare actual performance for your games or application.
- Portable gaming and creation: Consider the Zephyrus G16, but check the precise GPU power limit and sustained performance rather than assuming the top GPU option behaves like the SCAR 18’s.
- Creative projects with demanding video or 3D workloads: The reviewed ProArt P16 RTX 5090 configuration is a candidate, but verify that the configuration you can buy matches the review model.
- Mixed gaming, creator, and AI use in a smaller system: The G14 may fit, but the cited review notes an Apple Silicon advantage in a key single-core measure, so choose based on the applications that matter to you.
- Value in a previous-generation system: Compare the 2025 SCAR 18’s exact SKU and current asking price with the 2026 model before deciding; the product name alone does not establish which is the better buy.
