To replace an ASUS laptop battery, first identify the laptop’s complete model number and open that model’s service manual on ASUS Support. The manual determines the compatible battery, tools, and safe removal sequence; there is no single procedure for every ASUS laptop. ASUS’s self-repair guidance directs users to the product-specific manual before starting.
Identify your ASUS laptop and its battery
Find the full model name and number on the device label or in system information, then locate that exact product on ASUS Support. Do not select a battery based only on the ASUS name, screen size, or similar-looking chassis. Confirm the battery part number and compatibility using the model’s documentation or ASUS support before ordering.
ASUS service manuals recommend obtaining a compatible replacement through authorized retailers. Search for a replacement battery for your exact ASUS laptop model, and compare the listed part number with the one specified for your model. If the manual or support information does not establish a match, ask ASUS or an authorized retailer to confirm it rather than guessing.

A shorter runtime does not by itself identify which component has failed. ASUS says battery diagnostics may be available through MyASUS in WinRE, MyASUS in UEFI, or MyASUS in Windows, depending on model and configuration. Follow the diagnostic instructions for your laptop; available checks and paths can vary.

ASUS describes lithium-ion batteries as consumables that lose capacity over time. It does not give one lifespan, cycle count, or capacity threshold that applies to every ASUS laptop; system design, usage, and settings affect how quickly capacity declines. Use the model’s available diagnostics and support guidance before buying a battery.
Choose self-repair or professional service
- Check warranty first: ASUS presents its self-replacement route for out-of-warranty users and recommends sending in-warranty products to ASUS. Check the warranty terms for your region and contact ASUS before opening an in-warranty device.
- Consider the repair difficulty: ASUS advises professional help if the repair is intricate or you lack hardware-repair experience. The model guide should show whether the battery is readily accessible and what tools or materials are required.
- Understand the warranty risk accurately: ASUS warns that damage caused during self-repair may be treated as customer-induced damage not covered by warranty. That warning does not establish that every self-repair voids every ASUS warranty; terms depend on the product and region.
- Compare practical costs: Weigh the part and any required tools against paid service, plus the time involved and how the old battery will be handled. ASUS’s cited guidance does not provide current repair prices or turnaround times.
Replace the battery using the exact model guide
ASUS says to read the product service manual for the steps, parts, tools, and materials required for that particular repair. Its own instruction is: “Prior to proceeding with ASUS Self Replacement Solution, it is crucial to thoroughly review the repair manual.” Do not use another model’s screw count or connector instructions as a substitute.

- Open the exact model’s service manual. Check that it matches the full model number, then review the battery-replacement section, prerequisites, and specified tools.
- Prepare the laptop as that manual directs. Shut it down and disconnect power and peripherals in the documented order. ASUS manuals differ: for example, the UX425QA manual specifies disconnecting the adapter and battery connector before removing battery screws, while the CX5500/CM5500 manual begins its relevant procedure by disconnecting peripherals and power before removing the compartment cover.
- Open the chassis only as instructed. Follow the model-specific cover-removal directions and use only the tools the manual specifies.
- Remove and install the battery as documented. Follow the instructions for its connector, screws, adhesive, and lifting points. Do not pry or pull on a cable unless the guide directs you to do so.
- Reassemble and check operation. Reconnect components and close the chassis in the documented order. Then use the model’s support instructions to check that the laptop recognizes the battery and charges.
One example illustrates why the guide matters: ASUS’s UX425QA repair manual shows disconnecting the adapter and battery connector, removing six battery screws, and then removing the battery. That sequence and screw count apply to that example, not to ASUS laptops generally; access method, connector placement, fasteners, and parts vary.

Handle a swollen battery and the old battery properly
ASUS says a swollen battery should be replaced and disposed of properly, not placed in household waste. Its battery information guidance directs users to contact local ASUS customer service about disposal. Local collection requirements may also apply, so confirm the rules where you live and arrange disposal through an appropriate service.

Reduce battery wear when a replacement is not yet needed
ASUS recommends Battery Health Charging for users who keep a laptop connected to AC power, where the feature is available for that model and software. For long-term storage, ASUS advises charging the laptop to 50%, turning it off, disconnecting AC power, and recharging to 50% every three months. For laptops constantly connected to AC, ASUS recommends discharging to 50% at least once every two weeks. ASUS gives 10°C–35°C (50°F–95°F) as its preferred storage temperature range. These are ASUS recommendations, not guarantees of a particular battery lifespan.
